If a game is shit, it doesn't matter if it was made 2 weeks ago, or 20 years ago. A turd is still a turd, and what a game console does outside of games wasn't really part of the discussion I was having here. At least I think it wasn't??
This.
I was arguing with some people on a GTA San Andreas Android Youtube video that were saying San Andreas was shit, and that people only think it's fun because of nostalgia. Then they went on to say GTA 5 was superior in every way mainly because of the "stunning visuals". I told them it doesn't matter how old the game is, if it was fun 10 years ago most likely it would still be fun, and if a game was shit 10 years ago, then guess what? It is still probably a shitty game right? I also told them that stunning graphics really have nothing to do with gameplay, its not a fucking movie, it's a GAME that you PLAY, hence gameplay.
I mean comparing graphics, in relation to how "good" a game is, especially with two different gen games is like apples and oranges. I feel like gameplay and game quality transcends beyond how old a game is, its universal throughout each generation of videogame.
That's really what the argument is right? That just because they keep their brain dead buffoon customers glued to the TV with cinema like graphics doesn't mean they can skimp out on what makes a real videogame, right?
I mean shit Obliverate, you're probably older than me and you telling me that you can't remember even two generations ago when all of the bells and whistles didn't even matter, and solid gameplay meant you could deal with the visuals? i.e. Twisted Metal?!?!?
You went on about this wacky argument about a guy hanging on to his old car, why? Cars can be related to videogames in that build quality transcends any generation you talk about, if a Ford Pinto blew dick back in 74, it wouldn't be any better now.
You look for the same things that make cars appealing which is reliability, good looks, and either fuel efficiency, performance, or a mix of both.
People still look for these today, and for arguments sake the quality factor has gone up, so a guy owning a car from 30 years ago may be screwed with fuel efficiency, and it may be a bit out of style.
Now regardless of fuel consumption if the car was of good quality back in the day and is still in good shape the thing shouldn't breakdown on you after 50,000 miles, it should last as long as any new car on the road.
So here is were you would argue that new cars have so many more safety features, power everything, anti-lock brakes, and even dick warmers, but no matter how much polish you put on that car, if the thing breaks down on you after a trip around the block, it's not worth having any of that crap.
I guess this argument has to do with the utilitarianism pertaining to videogames.
I will admit I enjoy Netflix a lot though, but do we really need like half of the game systems hardware set aside to run ridiculous features and to hold like 6 different video providers, music providers, and even cable providers?!
That to me is taking away from a games full potential, and how good this generation of systems could have been.
