https://deadline.com/2021/09/anthony-mackie-john-doe-sony-pictures-television-pl...Newest is Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) will play (an original version of) John Doe, *probably* the main character of the series, or one of them at least.
Similar to Twisted Metal Black's John Doe, this character will have no memory of his past, but unlike the original John Doe this guy talks a lot of shit and is (or thinks he is?) a Milkman ---because if there is an ice cream man in the story, you got to have a milkman too, a natural rival or sorts. And unlike the original John Doe, this guy is black, and doesn't look like the white supremacist from the movie American History X.
Anthony Mackie joins a cast featuring Will Arnett (LEGO Batman) as Sweet Tooth, so looks like we will get a hidden Marvel Vs. DC fight in this series.
Additionally, there are rumors of a PS5 Twisted Metal game to coincide, or to arrive some time during or after the series, that may, or may not tie-in to the TV series, as Jaffe is reportedly not involved. That is according to insiders/journalists, but not really confirmed otherwise. It's a realistic rumor though, why wouldn't they be a developing a game at this point?
Will it be good though?
Certainly Hollywood (remember blowing up the Hollywood sign in Twisted Metal 2?) doesn't care what the TM fans think. They want to do an action-comedy, so be it, that's what we're getting, I just hope they do it right, because if the jokes aren't funny even if the action is great it's likely to fail. Like, think of Batman 1966, that was a comedy unlike its source material but still managed to stay true to the material of that era, but if the comedy were bad it would not have left its mark on the legacy of the franchise. But that certainly did not work out well for the Batman & Robin 1997 film, one of the worst action-comedy films.
Almost risky of Playstation Productions to trust the Deadpool writers with this, and that's coming from someone who liked those films.
But I'd think Twisted Metal Black being the most familiar game in the series, that they would want the TV series to be more like TMB, dark, moody, not comical, morbid.
What they do not understand is there is a generational split in the fanbase and TMB/TMB Online was the great compromise that balanced it all out.
Or maybe they do, and don't give a fuck, and this series is meant more to attract fans of superhero movies. I mean, it's fucking Hollywood, it's what they do.
