One of my favorite genres from days gone by, That I know longer pursue, but still enjoy once in a blue moon, is the FPS game.
My top 10 favorite FPS games are as follows:
10. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare
This game soaked up a lot of time from me when it first came out. I played it a ton. Even reaching max multiplayer level, though I never prestiged because I saw no point in it. I kept playing the series until Modern warfare 3 which forever burned me out on CoD as a whole.
9. DOOM (original)
I actually didn't play the Original DOOM until I was about 17. The fast pace action was easy to fall in love with though and the fact I've always admired 2d graphics over 3d help a bit.
8. Red Faction
Red faction was one of my buddies favorite FPS's at the time. I personally never heard of it so he offered to let me borrow it on PS2. The story was not anything special, but the gameplay was solid and the destruction as unlike anything I had seen before.
(PC version)
7. Far cry 2
This was my first Far Cry game. I made a few levels with the level editor and played a lot of this title in both multi and single player. This is still my favorite in the series. Even if it does have an issue with terrible repetition.
6. Unreal Tournament 2k4
I enjoyed 2k4 a lot when I played it back in the day, but it didn't capture that original feel for me. It expanded with vehicles and the additions to assault mode where great, but it felt a bit more floaty to me than the original UT. Which is a reason I didn't like a lot of the later Halo games.
5. Half-Life
This was my Second FPS. There's really not much to say here. Half life is a narrative driven FPS and one of the first to be so. If you haven't played this or know what it is you should be ashamed.
4. Halo Combat Evolved
Pistol, Assault rifle, Shot gun. Played through this game at least twice. I spent a good amount of time online in the PC version. I use to be fairly decent. Too bad I couldn't keep up with the rest of the series
3. Unreal
Unreal was ground breaking at the time for being a fully 3D FPS. This game was my first FPS and probably why it will always be a classic to me. I've played through this more times than I can count. It use to have a massive modding community, much like UT, but with gamespy's demise a lot of the content was lost. That menu music too.
2. Half Life 2
Amazing game. Physic implementation was great for the time and I found myself really immersed into this game. Not a whole lot to say here again. Besides it was my introduction to steam, I hate steam.
1. Unreal Tournament
UT 99 hit that sweet spot for me. amazing gameplay, fast paced action. Awesome designs, free addons and a massive modding community (That died thanks to game spy) I still play this game annually and to this day. For me this was unreal's golden age.

Racing
10. Sonic Tag team Racing
I took a chance on this game and was pleasantly surprised. While toted as a mario kart rip off to the uneducated, it has enough unique mechanics to be considered different. While not being the biggest sonic fan, I enjoyed the hell out of this one.
9. Smugglers run
Not your standard racing game. In this you have an objective to complete by racing against the clock. One of my first "open world" driving games. I spent a lot of time goofing off and driving the various vehicles. I miss this game a bunch. It did get quite tough later on. Never played the sequel.
8. Felony 11-79/Roundabout
Much like Smugglers Run above, but a smaller game from the PS1 era. The fun from this one comes from completing different challenges to unlock new and sometimes wacky vehicles to try and finish the three levels with. I am currently playing the sequel.
7. Burnout Paradise
I think every racing fan on earth has played it at this point. I almost 100%ed on ps3 and ps4. A great time for any driving fan.
6. Driver
The classic. 70 chase scene magic. Running from the cops and racing against the clock as undercover cop tanner. I played the hell out of this game and the free roam.
5. Burnout 3 Takedown
This will always be the best burnout to me due to the shear fact they got everything perfect with this one. Paradise was an amazing follow up, but due to the nature of the open world the tacks couldn't flow the way they did in this game. This game was a master piece.
4. Wipeout XL
One of my first racing games. As a young child at the time this one took me awhile to get the hang of. I enjoyed it a lot. Often playing it with family and making our own double elimination tournaments. The HD collection and Omega Collection are the pinnacle of the series, but this is what introduced me to wipeout.
3. Jet Moto 2
The best in the series of Jet Moto games. This game refined what made the first game great and gave the game as a whole a new unique look. The soundtrack is great too.
2. Grand Turismo
First simulation racing game I ever played. I enjoyed this game for the different and unique cars you could own and race. It was mind blowing back in the PS1 era. I'm including the whole series in this post.
1. Jet Moto
This is my favorite racing game of all time. I have a massive collection of Jet Moto related things. I play this through at least 2 to 3 times a year. I own a sealed copy of Jet Moto and my messing with this game is what led me to get Twisted Metal 2 working online as well as the original Twisted Metal.
That's all I am going to do for now. For my next post I think I'll do Fighting/Flight. I'm curious to see everyone's favorites as well.
