This post focuses on a recent video David Jaffe uploaded on his own YouTube channel relating a little bit to this topic I started about casting ideas for the Twisted Metal TV show. David Jaffe gives a hint that he knows who could be playing Sweet Tooth in the TV series.
David Jaffe has said that there are decent sized names that are interested in working on the show but are not yet confirmed or signed on to be on the show yet. And David Jaffe cannot say who they are unfortunately. He has also heard from the creative team working on the show and what their version of Twisted Metal could be about that he agreed with apparently.
Here is the link to the video from David Jaffe's channel that is a couple of weeks old. And the timestamp of the discussion about the Twisted Metal TV series starts and ends from 2:50-4:10.
https://youtu.be/fTyyreUdkJg He should not be getting hopes up too high that it will happen, or even teasing details when it is still in pre production. I'm sure whatever they are planning doesn't require his permission either, although I don't doubt they'd prefer his approval along with the other people who helped create the Twisted Metal universe. But ultimately, the fans will be the judge of Playstation Production's vision, and TM fans are a tough audience.
But we still don't even know if Sony is going to really go through with the show. There was never a followup to the initial announcement a year and a half ago, so it's been in limbo.
Just remember that the TM movie got called off because the last TM game, which was more than 8 years ago, failed to grow much interest in TM to justify a big budget film. So the movie got announced, the project went into limbo, and never happened. That could very well happen with this planned TV series.
Especially given the struggles film makers are going through with Covid-19 restrictions I don't see a Twisted Metal TV show being high priority, to be honest. Especially if there is no TM planned for PS5 I really do not see Sony going all out for a small fanbase unless they have a sincere desire to resurrect one of their longest existing exclusive properties for a new generation of fans.
Personally, I think TM is dead and Sony is not going to feel confident in resurrecting the property. They might give it a chance only because they might believe Sweet Tooth still has appeal in a similar way The Joker does, but if Sweet Tooth is the main character the show might suck since unlike the Joker, Sweet Tooth lacks charisma. Seriously though, how many times do we have to go through this exercise, that too much Sweet Tooth is a bad thing? I get that people feel he is the best recurring character and vehicle, but that's because the series did not focus enough on anyone else. And because of that, a TV series seems like it would be more challenging to pull off than a movie. I just get the impression that it will be too Sweet Tooth centered and one dimensional. I would prefer a new approach to the lore that learns from the mistakes the game series made, while at the same time honoring it.
Anyway, sorry to rant. After spending years wanting a TM movie & comic book series and not getting it I don't have much reason to believe it will ever happen. Outside the games the additional TM media we have received in 25 or so years was one rare TM2 comic book and a few TM Black Webisodes. That is why I warn about getting hopes too high.
