I get what you mean, but I always thought the power missile was distinct enough for its lack of homing capability and it’s damage output. In close range, especially in Black, fire and homing missile aren’t so dissimilar that you could remove one and not affect the gameplay.
That's completely untrue, and anyone who has played TMB competitively will shout this one down.
Honestly, all three main missiles serve very important functions. Simplistic breakdown:
1. Power Missiles: Most devastating, but absolutely no aiming ability. Requires a head on attack or a lead shot. Slow.
2. Fire Missiles: Fastest of the missiles. Medium damage. Medium homing ability. Best for chasing down running opponents or for head on attacks.
3. Homing Missiles: Slower than homing missiles, but faster than powers. Excellent homing ability. Good for any situation, but minimal damage.
The ONLY problem with Black's fire missiles, in my opinion is they should do a BIT more damage. To me, 12 would be the ideal number instead of 8, but they are indispensable on the battlefield.
