would you prefer if the gameplay of a new twisted metal had less homing missles or would you like it to be like black? ive just been playing sp black and i would say i would prefer not to have the amount thats in the game. but maybe im wrong about that.

Did you know you can dodge homings in Twisted Metal Black?

Excluding certain special attacks, the freeze missile, & some environmentals the only homings in TM Black are homing missiles, and skill weapons (zoomy & reticle) - so I'm going to assume you are arguing for a TM game to have just 1 homing weapon (excluding Specials, etc.) like TM 1, 2, and Small Brawl.

I am not against a new Twisted Metal game having it that way - but I don't mind more homings as long as there is a way to evade/dodge them that doesn't involve using a map obstacle as a shield.

Homings aren't the only issue with Twisted Metal weapons though. High damage weapons should require skill, and low skill weapons should not result in high damage. Automatically locking weapons, ghost missiles, cheap Area of Effect/Splash Damage weapons, 1-hit or 2-hit auto-kill attacks - Developers of a new car combat game need to figure out a way to balance gameplay and dismiss ideas that can break the game for (not necessarily everyone, but) many people.

yea ive seen the bible and stuff. but im playing on rooftops right now on black but even the fire missiles still home to me when i try it. and thats if im driving backwards its even worse going forwards you got 5 guys homing on to you

i guess i just thought design wise it would be more fun if the main attack wasnt homing missiles. at least in single player with 7 other guys shooting at you i think its kinda lame . by the way what are the low skill weapons that cause a lot of damage? im guessing the barrel move feels really easy to get a kill. satellite feels one of the more skilled weapons.

i know theres already another guy here working on a twisted metal game. but im going to try and do the same thing and wanted to see how people felt about certain gameplay elements. because im not as good as the people who play online but just from playing singleplayer i dont like being barraged by 2-4 different people with homing missiles (fire missile) and thats just the default missile attack its not a special homing missile. but on the other hand i like the idea of people doing those tricks to dodge missiles. i got quite a few ideas for glitch type things i want to incorporate into a game too

I always thought the Fire Missile was redundant and a bad holdover from the limited variety in the first game. That would probably solve your Homer problem.

In my opinion getting rid of fire missiles would be a very bad move. They're about as redundant as fingers.

What you describe sounds more to me like a struggle with difficulty levels. I'm all for making an easier difficulty for people who want it, but let's not dumb down the game again in order to try to appeal to people with a one and done attitude. That was the mistake made in TMHO AND 2012.

I'm pretty sure it's not worth trying to dodge them in the single player of Black because the bots shoots many of them.

The fire missile was designed to be a trade off, less tracking for more damage (not that it always worked that way.)

I feel by that logic the power missile is redundant too and should be axed.

when you guys dodge missles do you go backwards with the right joystick and then claw x to power slide

but i like the idea of having a game with a lot of depth i just think its annoying that a main attack is a easy to shoot missile that requires no aim. but i just wanted to hear peoples opinions. like what if the default missile was something that was fast but didnt home. or do you like the default missile being a homing one

I do it all the time. Totally worth it.

I get what you mean, but I always thought the power missile was distinct enough for its lack of homing capability and it’s damage output. In close range, especially in Black, fire and homing missile aren’t so dissimilar that you could remove one and not affect the gameplay.

That's completely untrue, and anyone who has played TMB competitively will shout this one down.

Honestly, all three main missiles serve very important functions. Simplistic breakdown:

1. Power Missiles: Most devastating, but absolutely no aiming ability. Requires a head on attack or a lead shot. Slow.

2. Fire Missiles: Fastest of the missiles. Medium damage. Medium homing ability. Best for chasing down running opponents or for head on attacks.

3. Homing Missiles: Slower than homing missiles, but faster than powers. Excellent homing ability. Good for any situation, but minimal damage.

The ONLY problem with Black's fire missiles, in my opinion is they should do a BIT more damage. To me, 12 would be the ideal number instead of 8, but they are indispensable on the battlefield.

I don’t disagree, but you are talking from a “competitive” perspective. I don’t think people who play casually appreciate these nuances.

I also don’t know what you mean by power missiles not having aiming ability. I used to hit those from across a map, though I remember them working better in Twisted 2.

I guess I’m just approaching it from a streamlined perspective. Powers go straight, homing homes, ricos bounce, napalm goes overhead, etc. All of these weapons have distinct differences to me while fire missiles feel derivative of homing.

It's just the perils of fast replies. I mean that power missiles have absolutely no self guiding ability.

The original Twisted Metal handled Fire/Homing/Power missiles best to me.

Fires had very minimal homing, they'd curve but didn't track well, but they were the common weapon on maps, and thus easy to stockpile.

Homing missiles were the rarer map pickup, and they did significant damage, but usually you wouldn't have more than 2 at a time.

Powers were the most powerful missile but also the rarest missile on the map, so on top of firing in a straight path, they had to be used conservatively.

It wasn't until homing missiles and powers became more commonly distributed on maps that the fire missile seemed to become redundant - and as well the introduction of new missile weapons in the series, from 989s speed missiles to head-on's swarmers to tmx's stalkers.
