A retrospective on Twisted Metal

Have you guys seen this video yet? It's absolutely marvelous, including Jaffe and, at the end of the video, the original voice actress for TM 2 Calypso. What do you guys think? It's pretty spot on.

Gotta say, I know he has insights to supply about the series, but I feel like I've heard it all and I'm really sick of treating TM like his voice is the only one that matters.

I 100% dread hearing him talk about TMB, and I have a hard time believing he'll even properly address TMSB or TMHO.

I absolutely, 100% agree with you on TMSB and TMHO. He wasn't in TMSB at all (I think, kinda like TM3/4) and he had very little input in TMHO. I don't want to know how things might turn out with TM 2012. But yeah, hearing his insights on the series, the behind the scene stuff and whatnot is really awesome. Then again, I've closely followed the franchise since its inception, so there's that.

voice actor* for TM2 Calypso, lol, you wrote actress. Calypso aint a chick, dude! And technically Mel was the 2nd to voice Calypso even though all those TM1 cutscenes got cut out of the game.

and I'm with Kilrahi, I just do not want to hear Jaffe talk about TM anymore even if it is in depth. his behind the scenes stuff from the distant past is sufficient. He doesn't have great gameplay insights anymore, he is very SweetTooth-centric, and he only talks about half the games in the series. He's not as insightful as someone like Ed Boon is with the MK series. I like behind the scenes stories but I don't trust Jaffe at this point, I'd have to question the validity and accuracy of his accounts. It's the same guy who said the former TMA webmaster harassed him on the phone when he never even had Jaffe's number. Same guy who banned me from PSN because I was critical of Drawn to Death, a game that failed as I predicted. Same guy who thinks it is okay to create a fictional account of the TMB Harbor City developers dying in an airplane crash. Same guy who made a Twisted Metal Valentine's Day blowjob joke and years later acts like a Social Justice Warrior on social media.

As for Small Brawl, Jaffe had no involvement, the game director was SCEA's Steve Ceragioli, and the creative director was Mike Giam, the co-creator of Twisted Metal who unlike Jaffe has nothing to say about the series.
Jaffe was in SCEA's Special Thanks for TMSB however (as he was in the special thanks for TM3).
Jaffe had no involvement in TMHO either, that was directed and designed by Incog's Scott Campbell with Kellan Hatch as creative director.

Agreed, there are SO many people I would rather hear from these days, but the only person we ever hear from is Jaffe, and he has a very narrow vision of all of it, with almost no gameplay understanding to speak of. Below are some of the guys that I personally feel could really do for an interview:

Mike Giam: WTF is this guy's story?  We KNOW he helped invent Twisted Metal. Jaffe admits as much every time he is asked about Twisted Metal. What's more, Mike Giam clearly came back and helped with TMSB (but not TMB - so something is interesting there). What are his thoughts on the series?  Was it even a big deal to him?  Why wasn't/hasn't he been more involved?  What does he do now?  This stuff would be really cool.

Scott Campbell: I mean, it kind of goes without saying, and we've had a FEW interviews with him, but not a ton. There's certainly more that we could learn from this guy, not the least of which is what he thinks is most important in a TM game. How does he feel about TM's hard veer to slasher/horror? There's lots of stuff.

Kirk Baum: This guy had way more gameplay involvement than Jaffe did. What does he think of the series now? Where did it go wrong?  What could it have done differently?

TMB2 Team: There are quite a few people on the TMB2 team that could provide some interesting perspective on THAT game besides a bullshit story about people dying (which honestly pisses me off more and more each year because clearly human beings are stupid and MANY people actually seem to have believed in that story, which has resulted in the real story never really coming out - lets make it come out!). We have exposes on cancelled games all the time, and yet for some reason this huge cancelled game has garnered almost no press.

There are many, many more, but that's where I'd probably start.
