Critical Depth

Why is this game not more popular?! I've been playing it a lot and honestly the concept alone is so cool and the vehicles are really unique. There is a dolphin, shark, alien cult ship, underwater pirate ship etc. I don't know how this game didn't do as well as Twisted Metal and honestly if you ask me to a casual player, Critical Depth has much better controls than the PS1 Twisted Metals. Once you are good at the old Twisted Metals navigating does become fluid and easy but Critical Depth is much more accessible.

I consider CT to be the real TM3.

The game was a little slow however you can adjust the speed, I always played on the fastest speed.

A lot of effort was put into this game and was one of my favorite games of all time.

Lots of hidden rooms on almost every level, lots to discover too.

The specials were better than TMPS3 in my opinion.

A remake would be quite nice.

I also heard a PC version of CT was made but never released.

This franchise was developing well, too bad it ended the way it did.

Critical Depth was developed by SingleTrac but published by GT Interactive instead of Sony, so because of that they did not have a marketing edge, and it was released late into PS1's life, and it had rivals (Vigilante 8 Second Offense, Twisted Metal 4) to contend with. A lot of car/vehicular combat fans did not discover Critical Depth until it was too late, but its sort of a cult classic. Everyone who has played it seems to dig it. While technically not a Twisted Metal game it is a Twisted Metal Universe game. It uses a modified version of the TM1 engine and created concepts that carried over to other games, plus some of the vehicles have similarities to TM vehicles, most notably Agent 326 who looks exactly like Crimson Fury. The whole alien story feels like a spinoff of Agent Stone & Commander Mason's story from TM1. Similarly War of the Monsters and Rogue Trip included aliens.

You're comparing cars that can only move at a 360 degree angle on the ground to submarines that can move anywhere in the water just like a air plane. According to the date of my videos of this game I never heard of this game until 2012. I liked the game a lot especially the music. I do have problems with the game. I prefer the story mode in Twisted Metal where you have to kill everybody to move on to the next stage. In Critical Depth you don't have to. You just need to get all of the pods and rush to the exit. I still killed everyone in my videos. The story is a bunch of wall of texts. I don't even know what they all say because I didn't read them. Joe is suppose to be the Mr. Grimm of the game but it didn't seem like he has a low armor unless you attack him when you have the damage pod upgrade.

I feel the shark's special needs a buff. It can be easily avoided by just swimming up or down.

I really tried to get into Critical Depth, especially earlier this year when I gave it a revisit. I just can't get into it. It just doesn't feel good to play and nearly everything is homing (which it has to be because of the nature of the game).
