Of course there's going to be people that will buy it because it's a new product. But the fact is the PS2, PS3 and PSP are the superior consoles because they all can play more than just PS1 games. The only downside to the PS2 and PSP is it's not HD. The PS2 can make PS1 games load faster and playing PS1 games while laying in bed with the PSP felt good. People can go ahead and pay $100 on a emulator box with 20 old PS1 games even though computers can run roms. I rather have a higher quality PlayStation that can do more than just play PS1 games. It's not the 90s anymore.

Also with stores like V-stock, Ebay and Amazon you can get some of these games from 2-5 bucks. instead of spending 100 for a bunch of chaff you wont ever play.
Yeah I have the SNES Mini and there are some games on it that I'm not interested in playing. The games that I bought in the PSN were games that I actually wanted to play and beaten.

I'd take the PS2 out of there due how many bugs and glitches it has while trying to play PS1 games. Some Slim models do not even play those games at all, and most PSX titles have some kind of errors in the shape of audio glitching, cutscenes skipping, game-breaking bugs (the classic example of Mortal Kombat Trilogy being unplayable due to the game crashing once you reach "Shao Kahn's Lost Treasures") amongst other things.

If anything, people that have PSPs and PS3s should be more than happy that they can play PS1 games (heck, even the PS3 has had some infamous moments with faulty 'PSX emulation', due to the console actually emulating the games in a not-so-reliable, 100% accurate way). There's always Xebra/Mednafen/Medgui for PC users. Me myself I still have my PSX and it feels different in a good way to play in a real console rather than through emulation.

I never had my PS2 cough on a single PS1 game. Far as I could tell it played them better. What's more, it had an actual Playstation in it. It wasn't done through software emulation.

For some reason, it was my trusty PS3 that gave me the least problems when it came to PS1 games. I had a fat PS2 and it would read PSX games whenever it wanted to, and my new slim ps2 does the same and runs them like shit.

The PSX I bought this year cost me like 45 bucks and it is a beauty to behold. I lost my faith in SCPH-1001 models, regardless of its legendary 'RGA audio' and whatnot, I don't trust the power supply being so near the disc drive. The SCPH-5001, which is the one I purchased earlier this, still has the parallel IO port intact and a great disc drive.

You do realize I ment a ps1 right? Something you can get from anywhere to 25-50 bucks easy.

Buying all those original PS1 games are way more expensive than just having an emulator box that can have hundreds of PS1 games pre-loaded onto it. Not to mention the PS1 classic is a plug and play, low maintenance (those old CD drives tend to be unreliable 20 years later,) and it has an HDMI out something a PS1 doesn't. Not to mention a lot of people hate having to store physical media.

The PS1 classic provides an easy way to play PS1 games that is plug and play and fairly affordable considering what original systems/games or PSN able systems would cost.

I don't get the hate for the product. Yes, you can create your own Rasberry Pi but some people don't care to put in that effort and want the original controllers to go along with something cute to put under their TV.

While the PS2 and PS3 might offer you a better more complete gaming experience but it doesn't offer the same convenience and cost-effectiveness. The audience for this is people who fallen off with gaming and just want an easy way to play the old games they remember. It also is for older retro gaming fans who want to hack the system and be able to revisit the complete PS1 library while being able to use the original controllers.

Hey, if that's enough for you, kudos. It's just not enough for me. To be honest it feels like a complete rip off for $100.

NOW, if they'd given it a cheap modem and an SD slot with the ability to download more PS1 games off of the PSN store, yeah, I'd be all over that.

They didn't though, so for me, it's garbage. We'll have to see how it does in the market to see which group there are more of.

I get that it might not be enough for some people. I honestly do. However I think a lot of people not understanding who would want this are missing who the intended audience for this is.

Also if you want more than 20 PS1 games on this thing it is likely that you will be able to easily hack this thing and put hundreds of PS1 games on it fairly easily. The SNES and NES mini's were easily hackable (I was able to hack my SNES Mini and the process was simple enough to the point where I think my dad could do it.) I have about 85 additional SNES games on my SNES Mini and there was enough memory to add a lot more.

So if you want something that can play those 20 games and be something you can add more to I would see how easily hackable the system is because you might be able to basically have any PS1 game you ever had any interest in playing on it for free.

This thing is going to do well in the market. The nostalgia for the PS1 is as strong if not stronger than the SNES and NES. If this thing is easily hackable then you have an appeal to a lot more people who will basically see this thing as a PS1 machine.

I have to say, choosing to have the original Twisted Metal over World Tour is just dumb.

Why not add both TM games? Why just one?

This mini is garbage.

The only good thing about this mini is it will help introduce TM to people that never heard of this series. Other than that this mini is only worth buying if you can hack it because most of the games that are in it are bad choices. Puzzle Fighter over Street Fighter Alpha 3? Crap.

I agree with half the games on there, but the other half...they could have done better. Seriously. There are much better games that represented the Playstation, even games that I didn't particularly like but are synonymous with the brand.

Crash Bandicoot, Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider, Tony Hawk, Wipeout. FUCKING WIPEOUT! Like come on.

I'm a huge RPG nut and they could have made a version with 20 of the best RPGs the system had. It was an RPG beast.

I think they missed the mark on this one. Jumping Flash? A piece of shit launch title. Driller? Super Puzzle Fighter? Womp, womp. Destruction Derby 1 when it should be 2? Ugggggh.
