Best non-Twisted Metal Singletrac/Incog Inc. game?
09/06/18 at 04:50:28

Warhawk 2007 will probably win this one, but I'm curious to see who wins this poll. Who is #2 after Twisted Metal in the Singletrac-Incog universe?

For me it will always be Jet moto.I used to spend countless hours mastering this game.

when I found out the Pc version had online it was like a god send, until the community I was apart of basically died.

I own every copy of jet moto, black lable and greatest hits, along with all of the regional versions. (J-NTSC and PAL)

This also includes a digital copy of each on Ps3/psp.

Only version I probably don't own is any kind of beta builds/the digital for the Sony eXperiaplay phone thing.

I even have the tigar handheld.

Old picture, but my collection hasn't updated. That blurry one is an unopened copy of Jet Moto 2.

...

I was also one of the original 3-4 people that Jet Moto 2124 was leaked to.

Very cool Jet Moto collection, Adonael. The original JM is my favorite of the bunch. I felt like the series should have stayed with 20 competitors per race. I liked the challenge. One of the most hardcore racing experiences for sure, Jet Moto made racers like Road Rash & Kinetica -to name a couple- look easy in comparison.

But my favorite non-TM Singletrac/Incog Inc. game is impossible to say.
It could be War of the Monsters on one day, Critical Depth or Rogue Trip on another, the original Warhawk the next day, etc. depending on what I'm in the mood for.

I'm surprised Warhawk PS3 only got 1 vote so far though. Pleasantly surprised. It just goes to show how great Singletrac/Incog was, that their most acclaimed game (beyond TM1/2/Black) is not necessarily seen as their best work. Personally, I like the original Warhawk on PS1 more because I like to keep it Kreel, but it's impressive how Warhawk PS3 still has an active community over a decade after its release.

And not too surprised on Calling All Cars! not getting a single vote. That was the beginning of the end for Jaffe, who slammed critics for bad reviews (something he did again after Drawn to Death's release). Gamespot's 6.7 out of 10 rating was not unfair though ...the game did lack content. The cartoon style was cool though, sort of Rogue Trip-ish.

Really, RK, Animorphs? Were you a fan of the book series?
I thought about putting it on the poll, but I just didn't think anyone would vote for it. Most people don't even realize it is a Singletrac game because it's the only platformer they made and the only game they made based off someone else's property. Beyond the soundtrack by Chuck Myers/Tom Hopkins, which I think is better than the game itself, there isn't much there to make one think of Singletrac. But to be fair I haven't given that game a full playthrough. I couldn't really get into it, but maybe it's because I'm not even familiar with the book series. Also, if you look at the game credits there were a bunch of new team members, loads of rookies, and very few team members from the past games, aside from a few people in the visual arts department, the composer/producer of the soundtrack, and 1 guy on the business side of things.
What happened was Incognito Entertainment was founded in May 1999 by guys who branched out of Singletrac, and Animorphs was released on September 2000, so the key Singletrac members were pretty much gone by that point.

I also forgot to add Singletrac's "Outwars" (PC Exclusive - when Singletrac worked with Sony's enemy Microsoft), and "Streak: Hoverboard Racing" on the poll. I haven't played either, but they look cool, as you can see yourself in youtube videos. Not sure if they are worthy of the poll though. Outwars is a "military science fiction selectable perspective tactical shooter" (sounds almost like StarHawk - but jetpack combat is a better description) that had 8 player online multiplayer and was critically praised at the time but clearly forgotten in modern times, and Streak looked like Jet Moto mixed with 3Xtreme  Grin which is cool too, but didn't get good reviews from critics.
Anybody at TMA ever play either of them?

I found a download of Streak Hoverboard Racing and did a quick playthrough. Pretty cool game actually and a cool soundtrack. not too challenging unfortunately but fans of Jet Moto and Downhill Domination would enjoy the race tracks.

I might have to give it a try. Someone on the Jet Moto forum brought it up a while ago, but they said it was only alright, so I didn't seek it out.

Warhawk 1995 is what I like more because you're flying and shooting with a plane. Starfox is my favorite Nintendo game for that reason. I remember the Warhawk demo back in the PS1 era and never had the full game until 2009. I never played the sequel and don't plan to because the game it's too different from the original. There's no single player and you don't spend the whole game in a plane which is what I liked about the PS1.

https://archive.org/details/Outwars_1020 So the demo of Outwars is easily available on archive.org if anyone wants to check it out. Stay away from any place offering a full download of the game though, those sites are very sketchy.

@Adonael -
Streak has a cool funhouse/carnival race track with some clown laughter in there that's SweetTooth-ish. The game was worth playing just for that, but the first set of races or whatever of the season are so ridiculously easy that a monkey could beat them. Eventually the game gets challenging and the AI tuning improves, but it feels inconsistent and the tracks feel repetitive at times.

@Luis -
I prefer arcade-style flight combat over a 3rd-person-shooter as well. but to be fair there were modes in Warhawk '07 where you could only fly. And its spiritual successor Starhawk included a story only for critics to slam it, and it's online multi didn't thrive like Warhawk '07. So Incognito made some ballsy decisions, changing the genre of the series and not including a story, but those decisions worked out.

Nah, just posted it as a joke.

In all seriousness I voted Jet Moto on the poll. It's the only other Singletrac game I have the most experience with outside on twisted metal 1 or 2. Never really played any thing else by them other than Rogue Trip, so I dont have much of an opinion on the games.

Yes I have played Animorphs, and yes, it is a shit platformer.

I do love all of the games listed on your poll though. Well except calling all cars, and I never played down hill domination.

Thats another Ive been meaning to pick up and give a try. Even if bikes really are not my thing.

I may be somewhat late but I love this poll. I suppose I am in the minority despite Mosh thinking the newest Warhawk was going to win this poll outright. Warhawk 2007 was among the few games that I really invested real online time into. It had that draw on me. I was never elite but was pretty decent and loved the rare games where everyone was in sync, not trolling each other or exploiting known glitches, everyone truly immersed in the outcome as a team on both sides. This game felt nearly perfect to me during those rare moments. I was pleasantly surprised to see some time ago that Aced14 was a member and moderator. I would see him in a Warhawk game and knew 100% that at least one other person was actually trying to capture the flag, not just up their stats. Some really fun times.

My top three just because:
1. Warhawk 2007
2. Rogue Trip
3. Critical Depth

Only I voted Downhill. It could also have been Rogue Trip, Warhawk 2007 or any other. But I've played so much DD, and with my brother too, so I voted that.

Streak is really fine, neat level design. I think it was badly received because of the "archaic" graphics (I guess, compared to games like Resi 2, Metal Gear or Zelda) and it didn't advanced much from JM.

Outwars is really awesome, great atmosphere and gameplay, but hard as fuck. I played both games some years ago. But I don't think they're bad.

A complete download of Outwars is not that hard to find online, there are some good sites.

Some tough choices on this list, but I went with Warhawk 2007. I adored that game and only abandoned it when I found out TM:2012 was coming out (I've never had any serious time for more than one online game at a time, and so I figured that was the one I would be jumping into).

Then that one sucked.  It'll always depress me and make me wonder what adventures I could have had if I'd stuck with Warhawk.

Some of my best game memories ever are with that one. Amazing game for Incog to go out on.
