Hex Editing tutorial by DJ Normality

Heres another quick tutorial of a file from 2012. Now PS1 files are very easy but laid out in different ways. As you may have seen by the padding and different combinations. But truthfully theres only so many it could be. Most of the time it fall on even numbers. Now there are occasions where it don't but for what I've seen it usually is. Now there's also symmetry. This is what im about to explain in this next file. I dont have a lot of time so I'll try to explain the best i can.
...
This is face data. It has a distinctive look with the 00 in the middle of each one. Making 00 be the home position in the world. and lets say 71 being the first point. Now short sign mode is reading these 3 at a time to make the triangle. These have to be exactly right or the vertex wont know where to start at or attach to.
...
These are verts data. Now it has a distinctive look if you notice it always has repeating numbers. in this i mostly see 80 and 81. If you scroll through the data you'll see it makes kind of a pattern. The data on the side is hard to interpret but if you look on the right you'll start to notice patterns.
...
As you see I've gotten to the end of my data and everthing is set to render.
...
But.. I got an error. It's because this piece of geometry is in symmetry of some kind. The data needs adjusted so we only get one side. Almost like your doing with the car from TM3. Same concept just these are bigger files.
...
Now if we set the padding to this and adjust the count to half of what we had before. We get this.
...
A actual piece of geometry and its not all messed up. Now this is where I keep track.
...
I save the file as a name of something that looks close. Don't have to be exact just make it so you can tell what it is once its in the 3D program.
...
I keep track of each offset and the part to which i found in the file. In case I messed up and need to go back or want to find a part quickly. Also helps in showing the layout of the model. As you can see in this sweet document.
...
Now the errors are usually signs that your done with the data. But in this one it was before I had found out about the symmetry so these actually need updated.

That should be enough to get everyone started. If you need textures and .ngp files let me know.

email me at sharppyshooter@gmail.com

Padding is  0 0 for verts(quads)
Padding is  2 2 for verts(triangles)

Look dude. I don’t know who you are. But I already done said what I had to say to everyone. You are crying about the same stuff for weeks now. It’s dead bro whatever you talking about. I never said I’d charge for twisted metal. Now I just posted a very detailed tutorial and my personal email for people who have questions or need stuff. So I honestly don’t know why your still on that dumb subject. Dude was asking me for a totally different game. And I did send one guy a message saying I’d do club kid for 20 only because you guys had already gone crazy about me charging for models. I said I’ll charge for the extraction like telling you how. Showing you how and making sure you have the tools to do it. Now if you want to keep repeating yourself. Posting on every post I create then go right ahead but I’m not here for you or anyone on here that’s going to just cry and bicker. So with that said if you got something to say just say it I guess but I’m literally trying to tell you how to get any model from any game ever created.

i appreciate these tutorials. they've helped me understand model extraction. would be pretty cool having twisted metal cars from different twisted metal games fight against each other. and this is a step towards that reality.

Probably would of taken less time and effort to just model your own version instead of ripping them just saying.

I don't see the point in all this effort at all.

Especially the continued posting after being banned several times and disowned.

But to each their own.

By the way do you have autism?

-------

>Detailed tutorial

Yeah in less than 20 sentences that vaguely explain anything.

>Only I can do this

Apparently a monkey can do it from what you described.  Anyone can take a hex editor and with enough patience find models in any game.

Hell, a 12 year old completely changed a game and the way it handled, by modding hex values in a ps1 game.

Your ego isn't going to get stroked here buddy.

Out of respect for this site. Despite my best judgment, I won't brawl with you here on the PS3 thread.

But god help you if someone moves this to brawl.

...

Point still stands, hex editing is nothing special and common in hacker communities. I don't care how pissed off you get about it.

Your making this a brawl, it’s a very detailed tutorial of how to get any model from any game ever created. There’s no tension here besides what your creating. Again. Just stop commenting. All you gotta do man.

Considering the amount of effort that was put into this thread I'll just leave it alone, but keep all your tutorials contained within this post because there's no need for multiple posts about the same thing.
