Hi All,
I was trying to reach Mortimer as that was a name heard frequently in my home but his profile said he hasn't been active in a while.

Don't know how much relevance this will have all these years later but I wanted to let ya'll know, if any of his friends are still here that 'MonkeyKing' who moderated the fanfic forum passed away, Nov 20 2016. I found a copy of Twisted Metal Black Online and several charcoal drawings from a member of this community in his belongings as I was settling his estate. I'm his daughter, Tina. His first name was John/Johnathan.

I'll maybe check back this thread a couple more times to see if I can contact Mortimer or the artist who sent him the drawings, whose name I think is Elliott if I can make out the signature correctly.

Thanks for being a part of his life and fandom.
Twisted Metal was a favorite franchise in our home and I grew up playing it as well.

I'm really sorry to hear that. My condolences.

We never talked to each other or anything (he was rarely around during my presence) but I know your father was a respectable member of this community. If memory serves correctly, one of the belts he had was "TMA Treasurer".

May he rest in peace.

I remember Monkey King. An original TMA member. Nice guy from what I recall. Very sorry about your loss. Losing family is especially rough.

I will let Mortimer know about this as soon as I see him online (on messenger, not TMA), which should be soon.

Thanks a ton. Mortimer and my dad used to talk a bit online and on the phone I believe, and my dad contributed to the site for a while monetarily. I don't remember a ton in detail, just wanted to let him know especially and see if anyone remembered. Thanks for the thoughts and condolences. It was a rough 2016

edit: also please tell him if for any reason he wants to contact me personally or ask anything, he's welcome to. I can share my contact info.

Wow. 2016 really did suck with all this passing away shit. I lost my Father In Law Near Halloween.

I am so sorry about your loss Tina. I was a new member at TMA when your dad was active here. He was a really cool dude from the way he posted and yes, he was the "Treasurer" of TMA for a very long time. If it wasn't for him providing support to this site like he did, we probably wouldn't have been here for a few years. He was always quiet about it too, and when he did have to stop, he wasn't happy about it but damn....life happens man and you gave enough for years. I don't know if it's possible to find anything he wrote on TMA, but he was one funny guy.

I also spoke to him quite a bit on TMA Chat when it had that feature and I do know he was in the transportation industry like me. (OD I believe) Knowing "same shit different color truck" made it all the more funnier.

Even though we never "spoke" to each other on a verbal basis, we were always cutting it up LOL'ing in the chat and had some good times. He always seemed like a really cool guy, and I'm sorry to hear of his passing and my deepest condolences to you and your family. I'm sure if your able to share contact info, use the private e-mail feature by clicking on Mortimer's name, and selecting "personal message"

RIP Monkey King. I'll find one more banana peel to throw at someone in your memory.

God damn. This is horrible news. I'm so sorry for your loss. I've never really considered the fact that at some point we might lose people from TMA in this way. I really appreciate you taking the time to let people on this site know of this tragedy.

I didn't know MonkeyKing personally, but he was a big contributor to TMA in a lot of ways back in the day, and most definitely kept this site alive when it was going through some financial problems that almost did this site in.

I really, really, really wish we could have access to the old site to dig up some of his past contributions. It would be great to add them to this post or this site to remember him and celebrate everything he did and meant to TMA.

wow.... I am so sorry for your loss.  He was one of the nicest people and most respected on the forum.  when I joined he was already writing about 'waters run deep' twisted metal theories.  I am really really sorry Sad he was a really great guy.

Thanks for this. He was still working at OD up to the day he died. My family and I went out of our way to include his sometimes inappropriate humor during his funeral and he was buried with a pretty cool gaming, comic and anime collection. I was just a tad too young to remember in detail what he contributed to TMA or what the community here really meant to him, but I know it was a lot, and he valued you all as friends. Thanks so much for the laughs ya'll shared with him.

It's been nice to meet ya'll all these years later and know he had some good times and good laughs here.

I wish that was possible too. What I've got left is several role playing and game guide books with his notes and theories written in them which is pretty cool. I know he wrote fics for TMA for a long time.
This community meant a lot to him for sure, the TMA stuff I found in his belongings was the most well kept and taken care of, honestly.  I'm super glad to hear he was gracious and giving to the site and had friends here.

Really sorry for your loss.

MK was a staple of the website for years. When i started out here as a new member he was the treasurer of TMA and did a lot of the awards that were given out weekly as a "commish". As a young person I loved reading the awards every week, getting a good laugh and hoping I got one.

I did not know him personally, but I know from his actions he was one of the most well respected and liked individuals this site ever had. He was a big part of TMA and the Twisted Metal universe.

Again, my condolences for your loss...

MonkeyKing was a huge inspiration to me when I was younger when I  wanted to write fan fiction. While I may not spoken with him much, I appreciated his contributions to the website, both financially and through writing unbelievable stories that were full of detail. When reading his fan fiction, you were immersed through his attention to detail. I thought he put the other writers to shame and could have written for the actual Twisted Metal series itself.

R.I.P. MonkeyKing, you will be missed.

EDIT - Realized that a lot of the old fan fiction is gone or was never imported from the old site - does anyone happen to have any of MonkeyKing's work?

He was always young at heart. He was 45 at his passing.
