New Studio featuring Avalanche, EatSleepPlay devs

There's a new Salt Lake City studio with former developers from Avalanche Software (former home of Twisted Metal software engineer Kirk Baum and other ex-Singletrac/Incog members) and EatSleepPlay (the devs behind TM2012).

Maybe car combat still has a future?

Looks like it's time for Kilrahi to phone up Kirk and get him our ideas for the next TM.

Unfortunately, at least in terms of Twisted Metal and having the original team, this is bad news, not good news.  This new studio is devoted to perfecting "mixed reality."

What is mixed reality?

Imagine if you were playing the classic game of Monopoly.  You're sitting around the board with family and friends ready to play.  Then, each of you pull out a pair of glasses and suddenly 3D representations of your car and your family suddenly appear on the board along with fully 3d buildings.

THAT is mixed reality.  In other words, very different from what Sony and video game companies do so there is just about zero chance of significant crossover.

I also wonder if this means that Eat, Sleep, Play has gone out of business.

That would be kind of sad, even though the company hasn't done anything I was personally interested in in a while.

It looks like some shell of ESP still remains after all.

Also, get this, their most recent game is a car combat game.  Though in this case it has more in common with Spyhunter than Twisted Metal.

I have to say, I get that people from ESP worked on all of the games listed on their website, but it always kind of irks me in a way. It's not quite as bad as Al Gore saying he invented the internet, but how does a handful of people claim the work of 100 as if they were the only ones?

The website should be clear that hey have HELPED make some of our favorite games.  That sounds better to me.

I agree. ESP WISHES they made all those games themselves lol & I'm surprised Singletrac's CRITICAL DEPTH isn't listed. Guess they forgot about that one.

What CastAR has done in the past may not reflect what they do in the future.

Lets hope for the best.
