I didn't have a credit card until last year and I'm 34. Hell, I didn't even have a bank account/debit card for years because, well, I don't trust other people with my money, and I don't trust myself, but I eventually had to get over that to be a normal functioning human being and now I'm ok with it since I can check my bank account from my phone 400 times a day (yes, I'm paranoid).

I applied for my first credit card through my bank last year and it was super easy. Ever since then I get dozens of CC offers a month, though that is where the dark path can start. I currently have 3 credit cards which I NEVER thought I'd be bold enough to have but its super manageable. I was always a bit scared of having them because its basically a "buy whatever you want at any time" card and after a few beers and some online shopping I can be a bit of an impulsive buyer, but as long as you are smart and have a bit of self control its really a great investment. Credit cards have really been a blessing the last month while I was in between jobs as I mostly just use them as a cushion to fall back on or if something really unexpected happens....or if there is something really cool that I just MUST have (within reason) that is a bit more than I should spend within my monthly budget.

I recommend going with anything that offers no interest for 12 months that way you can get used to using it without having to worry about the extra fees if you don't necessarily pay off your purchases by the end of the billing cycle or month. If you are really savvy you can chain these 12 month no interest rate cards so that you use one to pay off the previous years card and never have to pay interest; those are pro strats that I've only learned about and haven't actually used yet, but I've carefully set myself up to benefit from this if need be.

I know that's not necessarily to your point about CCs Methid, but just some small advice from a noob. To your point though, not having a CC doesn't make you a loser, obviously. There are a lot of people out there that have CC debt because its really easy to fall into that so as long as you have a smart mind and are good with your finances CCs are a really good option.

I know you've gone way outside what your family deems respectable over the last few years and I saw how happy you were when you stayed with me for a couple weeks a few years ago, and as someone who also had to mostly separate myself from my families "wisdom and beliefs", as much as it hurts sometimes, its for the best. Just do you baby. Be you, do you, and concentrate on your life and you'll be happy. You're a good person (the best roommate I ever had even if temporary) and I know you'll succeed and get what's coming to you and if I can ever help you in any way I'm right across town bro.

I'm with Xizor on this one.

Credit is mainly useful if you have enough income to validate expenditures outside of your current balance. For example if I know i'll make $12,000 in sales. Buying $5,000 in liquor on credit is logical. I'll very likely make the money back without bleeding my bank account dry. Leaving me with security in case I misjudged the investment in inventory.

Furthermore these kinds of expenses boost your credit rating. Which is extremely useful if you hit a point that you need a bank loan. Or getting your self a better deal on a mortgage. As well as potentially getting you a better deal and lower interest on things such as car payments. Ultimately saving you money.

But if you are living day to day on your current income. I wouldn't suggest credit. But it's worth noting having a poor credit rating is not good. Simply not using credit won't leave you with an average rating either. You will be seen as high risk when it comes to loans or anything that requires payments. Which can often lead to certain items and services being more expensive.

Also like Xizor said in extreme circumstances. A credit card can mean the difference between food, rent and utilities. Or losing those things over an anomalous gap in income.

So while it may seem dumb in the short run. Getting a credit card and treating yourself to a few reasonable purchases you know you can pay off can actually save you money in the future. But only if you want to do things like buy a new car, owning your own home, or taking out a loan during a rough stretch in your life.

As far as getting by tough times without a loan. A credit card is about your only option. Since a bank is unlikely to take a risk investing in you buying groceries.

I'm the kinda guy who prefers to actually have the money already available to buy the things he needs, which is why I've been sticking with using a debit card. That kind of mentality was why a few friends suggested I move on to using credit cards. As they had mentioned, if I can spend responsibly with debit, I should have no problem paying back credit cards.

Unfortunately, when I applied for a credit card, I was denied. I was curious to find out why but I never did receive the rejection letter in the mail to explain why, even after calling about it and asking them to resend it. My guess is that my credit might've taken a hit from taking a long time to pay hospital bills (I went to the emergency room once before I got NJ medicaid and got hit with a huge bill that I didn't pay off fully until months later). I don't know what to do about getting a credit card at this point.

Late medical payments ream your credit rating. But the most damaging thing of all is never having credit to start.

You may never need credit. If that is the case. I highly suggest making sure you are paying into unemployment and retirement.

Having anxiety to a point where it keeps me from progressing in life. Always anxious, and the littlest things stress me out.

Add Pectus Excavatum, Scoliosis and Klinefelter's (self-diagnosed/highly likely that I have this) and it makes all that much worse for me.

I find that giving myself so much stuff to do that I'm basically distracted at all times, helps a lot with anxiety. The more useful or relaxing the things are, the better off.

I got over anxiety by being forced to be social. Eventually you adapt and while anxiety hits. You stop caring.

At the end of the day most people barely acknowledge your existence. People who are dicks aren't worth your time. But if you can wade through the dull and dickish people out there. You can meet some cool people.

In general though it's best to just not give a shit unless it's for something that seriously counts. Unless they are nailing you to a cross social acceptance isn't that important.

I've talked to others about this and this is essentially what I was told. I'll get past it, but it generally puts me in a unhappy mood.

One thing I noticed Is that I rarely make eye contact with people in conversations. The thought process behind that is something like me thinking I'm staring to a point that's making whomever I talk to uncomfortable.

Whether they identify as a man, woman or a toaster that is. Granted, I could potentially be being awkward/disrespectful by NOT making eye contact.

So I feel a bit confused now lol. Its not something I lose sleep over moreso as it's a random thought on my mind.

On the other hand, I feel fine in conversation when someone starts it but I always feel a bit uneasy initiating one.

Also thanks for the feedback HB and Sky. It puts me in a better mood to talk about shit like this.

It helps me too. Eye contact is essential for several reasons but we already know that. The next thing would be understanding the reasons behind the avoiding. Once you get over that then you can start on being the initiator, which seems to be a double edge sword situation. You'll probably make an ass of yourself a hundred times before you get it right on a regular basis, so its best to going on that sooner than later. The other side is that once you got it people will love you because the fact is 95% people also don't like being the initiator and are all socially inept to a certain degree.

As for staring there's a difference between looking and staring. You look at someone as much as you need to. If its making them uncomfortable you lay off a bit unless they're talking. Usually when someone is talking you turn towards them and listen.  There is a certain balance to it, but staring is what makes some people uneasy.

I hate people who needs dev routes to upload their levels in Super Mario Maker. Super Mario Maker is where you create levels and you can share it for other people to play. But in order to upload your level you will need to beat your own level first. There's so many people that will hide a hidden shortcut that will take them to the end of the level fast. People that do this are too lazy to beat their hard level or don't have the skill to beat it at all.

"Klinefelter syndrome

Affected individuals typically have small testes that do not produce as much testosterone as usual. Testosterone is the hormone that directs male sexual development before birth and during puberty. A shortage of testosterone can lead to delayed or incomplete puberty, breast enlargement (gynecomastia), reduced facial and body hair, and an inability to have biological children (infertility). Some affected individuals also have genital differences including undescended testes (cryptorchidism), the opening of the urethra on the underside of the penis (hypospadias), or an unusually small penis (micropenis)."

Well, I guess I should have expected that. Guess it's my own fault for posting personal stuff anyways.

Granted, when I realized I had that it made me fucking livid. Always knew something wasn't quite right with me. Flawed in multiple areas of the human body.

I was just kidding bro, haha. Now you make me feel bad.

I've heard plenty of people describe things like depression and anxiety to me but they are just concepts I can't wrap my head around. I mean, I understand it I guess, but I've always been fortunate enough to be strong mentally so I've never really ever gotten anything other than a bit nervous on occasion. I feel bad for people so crippled by these things because I couldn't imagine feeling that way.

Yeah I knew you were kidding but, it honestly does suck ass. That's good that you don't have any sort of issues like that though. My older bro who I look up to the most is completely secure with himself and I've always wanted to be like him in that way. But I believe I got cursed once exiting the womb lol.

And I may have made it worse for years by not addressing it lol. Granted, I don't think the kind of home I grew up in helped me in any regard either.

A depressive/bi-polar mother who mixes alcohol with drugs is not a good caretaker for a child lol. Glad I was able to get out of there eventually.
