I guess I have nothing to worry about, then. We got this all in good hands.

I'll be happy to record gameplay of that stage as well. I noticed how the lighting effect was not finished. But I'll still enjoy it anyway! Thanks! Grin

Today, as I was battling at Stadium Slaughter, some of the CPUs drive straight through the dividers and onto the freeway. Of course, we all know that is not meant to happen, but sometimes I just want to get into the heads of those mysterious bots. Can't do it though, because I'm not a robot.

Just a joke. Tongue

Awesome finds, Aced14!

Seeing stuff like this always makes me wish we could have seen a finished Harbor City, but oh well. Maybe one day!

It would have been nice if "City of the Dead" was available to play on the disc. I look forward to seeing more content!

Is it safe to make a commercial about this find?

I'm wondering if Aced14 would allow a video about this to be posted on YouTube.

I believe Aced14 will make a video, but I'm unsure as to when he'll get to it.

Regarding this thread's original topic (driving through walls in TMHOETE)...

Before discovering City of the Dead, the initial collision detection hack I found allowed me to drive through enemy cars (although partial bumps/ram damage would still occur). It also made collision detection "looser" when driving into the inner corners of walls (similar to that hack-less trick for going through walls in TMB/O - but less difficult). Sometimes it was possible to go through wall corners, but usually it'd make your car fall partially underground and trigger a teleport event from the game engine. Disabling the teleport events causes cars to endlessly fall underground.

Later on I found a hack that disables all forms of collision detection, but it's way too powerful. It makes it possible to go through both walls and ground, so utilizing that hack will make your car endlessly fall under levels and teleport until it runs out of health and dies. I thought I could maybe counteract it with anti-gravity hacks, but disabling gravity in TMHOETE doesn't work like TMB - you have no control of your car in mid-air. Coming up with a specialized-enough hack that only disables collision detection on walls is probably possible, but would be like finding a needle in a haystack since TMHOETE's ELF file lacks debug symbols (e.g. function/variable names). There are a few more things I haven't tried yet, but drive through wall hacks are on the backburner for me now.

If there happens to be a leftover debug camera mode in the game, maybe that would be a better option for exploring outer level boundaries. I've enabled debug cameras in some other Incognito games in the past... It was possible to freely control the camera and it ignored physics/collision detection.

Technically it is Smiley. Anyone that owns a TMHOETE disc and a cheat device will be able to play it once I release a proper unlock code.

Not sure what you mean by "commercial" :S. If you're thinking of trying to hype up the level's discovery in advance, I'd recommend against it. IMO there wouldn't be any value in making a video devoted to just a couple of screenshots.

In any case, it's not like I "own" the level or anything lol. Feel free to make your own videos of it as you see fit once unlock codes are out Smiley. As long as you're not literally downloading and reposting any of my videos as your own, I have no concerns.

Within the coming days/weeks, I'll create an in-depth thread about City of the Dead with videos, proper unlock codes, maybe more screenshots, etc... I literally just managed to load it in tonight.

My plans haven't changed since my last post. I won't commit to a specific date, but it should be before the end of January if things work out.

I want to do justice to City of the Dead with a worthwhile thread similar to what was done for TMB/O's Mini Junkyard level (a hidden unreleased level that was leftover on retail TMB/O discs).

I'm still developing a good unlock code for CotD at this time. I'm looking to inject an entry for the level into TML's level select menu. That way, it'll be just as easy to pick as any other level. Unlike Mini Junkyard, there doesn't appear to be any leftover "hooks" for CotD in TML's level select menu. Since TMHOETE's ELF file lacks debug symbols, I also can't get much insight into how its level select logic works. Those factors have complicated things somewhat. I'm still hopeful I'll be able to do it, but it'll require a more invasive code. If it doesn't pan out, maybe I'll just settle on a "force level" hack of some sort.

That will do.

My younger brother said that the gallery of Harbor City levels were all made up by a crazed fan. Now he will see that the Sol Motel does exist in this lost level!

Perhaps I should invest in a GameShark, then...
Or would you recommend something else?

If you use PCSX2 (a PS2 emulator for PC), it already has built-in cheat device functionality.

If you're using your physical PS2 console, I'd highly recommend using homebrew software. If you can manage to install Free Memory Card Boot (FMCB) on one of your PS2's memory cards, all you'll need from there is a USB flash drive. Then you can simply use a homebrew cheating app such as Cheat Device for PS2 or PS2RD GUI.

Installing FMCB isn't super straightforward... There are many different ways to do it. Basically, you need some way of installing it onto a spare PS2 memory card (one without important saves on it - since it may need to be reformatted), then you're in business. Installing can be as simple as putting some files on a USB flash drive and using certain PS2 cheat devices to launch it. If you have an official USB PS2 memory card adapter for PS3, you can directly install FMCB onto a memory card via a PC. Another way involves performing a swap trick on your PS2 (which involves opening up your console - not ideal).

Useful FMCB links:

If you don't feel comfortable with homebrew, I'd recommend CodeBreaker or any other cheat device that supports raw (HEX) codes. On GameHacking.org, a user called lee4 posted a handy thread called List of PS2 Cheat Devices can use RAW codes. Any device with "Support Master Code start F and 9" and "Support Official and RAW codes combination" should be fine.

For any other cheat device, you'll probably need to use a program like OmniConvert to encrypt raw codes into your device's code format. Try to avoid AR MAX at all costs unless you have no other option. Also, I'd recommend avoiding older cheat devices since they may lack support for newer kinds of master codes. If you get stuck with an older device, someone like me or DARKFORCE may need to manually create an alternate master code for TMHOETE.

Man, I HATE PCSX2! No matter which version I used, there would always be a sign that says "GS PLUGIN FAILED TO LOAD!" Angry

I guess the thing I should do now is patiently wait for the proper code to play CotD on my PS2 version. Tongue

Here is a video I made and posted on YouTube about the coming of CotD.

I just want to spread the mood a little bit.

That's a really wicked find. Looking forward to seeing more of it.

Crying out loud . . . I just don't understand Incog and ESP's penchant for leaving nearly finished stuff on their disks.

It does seem like a common theme across the entire series. Even if their hand was forced to rush and not be able to finish certain elements, I'm happy the devs still left neat environments on the discs to be found. Heck, even TM 2012 has extra sections of environment you can find if you break out of the map's barriers. Most notably, you can access unfinished sections of the Chase to Vegas mode on Diablo Pass, and there's a whole extra plaza extension to the Thrills & Spills Park that was left unfinished. It makes me wonder what additional content might be hidden away on that disc that can't be found in just the loadable levels.

Quick question: what is the music track like? I know for a fact that it is a speedy version of a TMB music track. I made some possibilities over a year ago about other music worthy of being in TML. Any one of these could be for City of the Dead.
