Hope everybody is alright.

Today we have to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Twisted Metal on PS1. It has been released exactly 20 years ago ! Amazing moments indeed !

Don't hesitate to share memories with this first episode and pay a tribute to this fucking awesome game !!

My most significant early memory about this game is that I've played it first in black and white as my parents'tv at time only displayed a SECAM signal and I got the game in PAL version (I live in France). I had to buy a RGB cable to display the colors properly the same day I got the PS1 console ...
20 years later, I play this game on my PSVita system with the same pleasure.

Long live Twisted !!

TM1 is my favorite Twisted Metal. Well, it wasn't initially. First it was TM2, then Black.
The things I didn't like much about TM1 eventually grew on me (the graphics and text endings).
When it comes down to it, TM1 is the closest to a real fighting game that Twisted Metal ever got in that it was the only one with a proper 1vs1 multiplayer mode (albeit that was the whole of the multiplayer experience whereas the other games had more variety). You can argue TM2 is closer to a fighting game also since it did introduce advanced defensive attacks that were easier to pull off. I think the introduction of co-op tournament in 2 made some players shy away from 1v1 competition...
but anyway, back to TM1.
It's the only Twisted Metal where instead of just harmless pedestrians to plow over, we had to fight off an army along with vehicular opponents.
While there was no World Tour yet, TM1 really had some great maps. The LA Rooftops map is STILL the best rooftops map in the series.
TM1 was also the first to have a large suburbs and city map that became staples in the series.
TM1 also had the most Arcade feel of any TM, with a short but fun Story mode that had easy passwords that applied to all the vehicles. The boss fight with Minion still stands up to this day... and I personally think it was much better than any boss fight from TMX or Head-On.
I could go on... about the great vehicles, some which were best in the original rather than what came later (Hammerhead)... and the only game with the slimey Pit Viper.
TM1 really helped PlayStation rise to popularity along with Crash Bandicoot and company, and it was also the first really amazing Singletrac game along with WarHawk.

Glad to see you guys remembered the game's anniversary. Meant to play some TM 1995 last night, but it was a busy night online on TM 2012 so I ended up spending my night on that game instead. Either way, the twisted spirit lives on!

This makes me feel old to think about.  It's awesome though.
