Hook Up with the TM 2012 Vets!

Hey all. Being one of the few TM 2012 vets that still hangs around this joint, and with the PS Plus promotion that will make the digital version of the game free, I figured I'd make a short post for those wanting to join us for game nights. If you want to experience the game at its best with proper settings and a kickass group of regulars, unranked TDM with us is the place to be! We'd love to have some fun times playing with anyone from TMA who takes advantage of the game being free, or otherwise wants to pop in and play a few matches.

As a general rule, you can expect us to be playing anytime between the mid-afternoon and the late night by North American times. Things are generally more lively Friday night and during the weekend, but there's a high-skill gathering at some time basically every day. Lobbies are usually open to join, and the only times we'll play in locked lobbies is just when we have practices and clan-related scrimmages. Some hosts will use skill filters, but usually lobbies are open entry.

We're a really welcoming group, but do be aware that most of us have been playing for over three years and have gotten pretty good at the game. If you're someone who played for a few months on release and remember most of the basics, a lot of us would be more than happy to help train and refresh you on some of the fundamental techniques and tactics on our own time. If you're starting fresh, I'd recommend you play the story mode and log some time into ranked first against a wider range of players. Hopefully with the influx of new players from the promotion, the learning curve playing ranked won't be as steep. Simply getting experience with driving, learning the maps and getting a feel for the weapon mechanics goes a long way.

To know when to log on and play with us, it really helps to have players like myself added on your friends list since we don't coordinate much for when we'll be on, outside of Skype. As a general rule, if there's a lot of veterans playing at once then we're most likely playing together. A lot of us even play unranked exclusively, and just play when our friends are on. If you have the PlayStation mobile app, it's really handy for seeing which of your friends are on without having to boot up your console.

It also helps to be in the loop with the veterans when joining our lobbies, since we'll usually boot players we don't recognize who probably don't belong (like someone with a 10% skill rating who chooses an underpowered vehicle like Crimson Fury). Having a decently high skill rating helps, but more than anything, just indicate that you're aware it's veteran lobby and ask if you can play. Pay attention to the chat in case you're asked to switch teams to make it more balanced, try your best, and have fun!

For quick reference, here are the general settings and rules we play TDM by. We tend to switch things up to play different modes more when we have varying skill levels and things are less competitive. Anything not mentioned can be assumed to be left at default/allowed for the most part.

Settings
---
* No Unlimited/Single Weapons
* No Pedestrians & Traffic
* No Health Semi
* No Friendly Fire
* Environment Hazards Are Enabled
* Environment Penalty Is Damage
* No Talon
* No Juggernaut

Courtesy Rules
---
* No Duplicate Vehicles on the Same Team
* No JYD Health Taxi
* No Meat Wagon and Vermin Extended Shields
* No Reaper RPGs
* No Flying with Sweet Bot
* No Cooked Remotes on Lightweights

Lastly, be sure to add your PSN ID here if you want to play with us. I'll add you, and will link this thread to others and encourage them to add you as well. I'd really like to try and set a TMA event of some kind before the end of the month, or maybe something along the lines of "TMA vs. All" if we can gather a few players willing to represent TMA and fight whatever group of players wants to challenge us. Hopefully we can make it happen!

Tell that to the DS clan. They'll just tell you it's part of the game. I don't think this should be a rule though. Not everyone cares like DS clan and no patch will come to nerf the thing. Might as well let people cook it if they really want to win that Urank match.

There's not much point in letting a proverbial rotten apple spoil the bunch. Most players I know adapt a position of "you cook on me, and I'll cook on you", and it's better not to cook remotes until you know someone is unrepentant about it. I haven't cooked remotes on any player or vehicle in unranked for years, even if they cook on me, since that's just not how I want to win. But yeah, remote cooking is one of the laxer rules that certainly won't lead to a boot if you do cook. However, it's frowned upon. Generally only tryhard can feel a sense of accomplishment from killing lightweights with cooked bombs that aren't environmental.

Nice. I'll try to make it online this month but I don't represent TMA. I always felt that was for the mods or people that have been here a long time.

You felt right. TMA is not a clan.

Yeah, TMA has never really been in the competitive scene or had a dominant clan, though they had a presence in the community in the early days. It'd just be nice to have an event to say "hey, we're still here and relevant, let's have a good time together". I never had much allegiance to TMA back in the day because in board rivalries where I was more aligned with the GFAQs players, but those days are behind us. It'd be cool to get a lobby with TMA vets rolling, and you guys should have at least one player not covered in a thick layer of rust. :-P

In the meantime, the game has really reached a recent peak of activity since the PS Plus promo. For anyone looking to play ranked, there's a bunch of full active rooms open at any time of the day, which is pretty awesome since things were typically a lot slower during the off-peak hours. There's been lots of activity among the vets too in unranked. I haven't had much time on the game thanks to working every day for the past three weeks, but I finally had a couple days off over the long weekend and had some awesome sessions with vets dropping in and out. The top four clans in the game are all actively playing, so if you want to test yourself against the best of the best, now's a great opportunity.

I had a sense of pride for TMA until the big fracture in the fan base.

Hell..I still hang around here occasionally.

Its a shame though, the game became active again and I don't currently own a Ps3.

The ECHO clan likes to cook the bomb too and act tough right after. I guess you can say they are a try hard clan, except maybe Jose. I don't remember him cooking it a lot. I agree though that sticking a bomb on someone and approaching them while it's cooked, then blow it up when you reach them to get an easy 50 damage ahead start is overpowered. The stage 1 35 damage is more fun to use. But I will cook it on Talons because I hate flying and a Reaper that is abusing the RPG. The remote bomb makes it look pointless to fight a Reaper head on, because you can just double cook bomb it.

Hey guys, I'm new to TMA but I'm definitely not new to the series. I own and have completed every twisted metal excluding head on and small brawl. I've been with TMX since launch day, unfortunately I was forced out because of the issues with the custom skins. I discovered a week ago that I was able to play again online and have put a couple of days into it, however I've noticed a drastic difference in my skill level and those that still play. I went from a 90.5 skill to 80.4 in the two days I've played. I'm really excited to play again and I'm going to make it online as much as I can, however training and tips would greatly be appreciated. Especially if anyone is willing to give me advice specifics regarding warthog. For whatever reason I just became attached to him, probably in part because I spent hours customizing skins for him after all the excitement from earning him. Anyway, my psn is Silence_Sings.  Feel free to add me and thanks in advance!
