Hey all. Being one of the few TM 2012 vets that still hangs around this joint, and with the PS Plus promotion that will make the digital version of the game free, I figured I'd make a short post for those wanting to join us for game nights. If you want to experience the game at its best with proper settings and a kickass group of regulars, unranked TDM with us is the place to be! We'd love to have some fun times playing with anyone from TMA who takes advantage of the game being free, or otherwise wants to pop in and play a few matches.
As a general rule, you can expect us to be playing anytime between the mid-afternoon and the late night by North American times. Things are generally more lively Friday night and during the weekend, but there's a high-skill gathering at some time basically every day. Lobbies are usually open to join, and the only times we'll play in locked lobbies is just when we have practices and clan-related scrimmages. Some hosts will use skill filters, but usually lobbies are open entry.
We're a really welcoming group, but do be aware that most of us have been playing for over three years and have gotten pretty good at the game. If you're someone who played for a few months on release and remember most of the basics, a lot of us would be more than happy to help train and refresh you on some of the fundamental techniques and tactics on our own time. If you're starting fresh, I'd recommend you play the story mode and log some time into ranked first against a wider range of players. Hopefully with the influx of new players from the promotion, the learning curve playing ranked won't be as steep. Simply getting experience with driving, learning the maps and getting a feel for the weapon mechanics goes a long way.
To know when to log on and play with us, it really helps to have players like myself added on your friends list since we don't coordinate much for when we'll be on, outside of Skype. As a general rule, if there's a lot of veterans playing at once then we're most likely playing together. A lot of us even play unranked exclusively, and just play when our friends are on. If you have the PlayStation mobile app, it's really handy for seeing which of your friends are on without having to boot up your console.
It also helps to be in the loop with the veterans when joining our lobbies, since we'll usually boot players we don't recognize who probably don't belong (like someone with a 10% skill rating who chooses an underpowered vehicle like Crimson Fury). Having a decently high skill rating helps, but more than anything, just indicate that you're aware it's veteran lobby and ask if you can play. Pay attention to the chat in case you're asked to switch teams to make it more balanced, try your best, and have fun!
For quick reference, here are the general settings and rules we play TDM by. We tend to switch things up to play different modes more when we have varying skill levels and things are less competitive. Anything not mentioned can be assumed to be left at default/allowed for the most part.
Settings --- * No Unlimited/Single Weapons * No Pedestrians & Traffic * No Health Semi * No Friendly Fire * Environment Hazards Are Enabled * Environment Penalty Is Damage * No Talon * No Juggernaut
Courtesy Rules --- * No Duplicate Vehicles on the Same Team * No JYD Health Taxi * No Meat Wagon and Vermin Extended Shields * No Reaper RPGs * No Flying with Sweet Bot * No Cooked Remotes on Lightweights
Lastly, be sure to add your PSN ID here if you want to play with us. I'll add you, and will link this thread to others and encourage them to add you as well. I'd really like to try and set a TMA event of some kind before the end of the month, or maybe something along the lines of "TMA vs. All" if we can gather a few players willing to represent TMA and fight whatever group of players wants to challenge us. Hopefully we can make it happen!
