What level of a fan are you?

Typical question to ask on a fan board/site. I figure if anyone want to state where they are on the level of TM. No need do we have to ask questions to the ones running the site, the ones that make fanfics, the ones that express their love for the series through artistic and creative means like making masks and custom cars based on the vehicles.

This is mainly asked out of mere boredom.

I have been, for the longest time, a moderate fan. I've played TM1, 2, Black, Black: Online, TM2PC, Extra Twisted Edition and Small Brawl. I have not touched the PSP Head On or TMPS3 at all. I've had the displeasure of playing TM3 and 4, absolutely despising them for reasons of my own and shared reasons others have expressed to death over the years.

I've been here for what felt like 10+ years with this community and have had the fun of playing with the members of this community on TMBO and TM2PC. Granted, I may not be as scientifically specific when describing the mechanics thoroughly of all of these games and what made them great and fun. I just know, from my experiences, that they are fun, I love the characters and I honestly think it's a very intriguing series.

Then again, I'm a moderate fan of anything, I don't get too emotionally involved on things in general. I do respect the fact though that there are diehard fans here and then there's this community that truly care of the series. I do hope we see another TM in the future, I don't believe it's dead and I'm not convinced it's dead.

What about you? What's your story?

Been playing since I was born. Not diehard but not far off. How was the days of twisted metal black online? I wish I could've been online at that time

I wasn't there when the network adapter was first released as well as the game itself. I got into it very late long after the servers were pulled and long after PS2 went. You can still actually play it, to this day. Just head on over to the TMB board on this site, learn how and keep track of the topics posted that describe what time people play at.

From my experience, with what little time I had with the game, it's really fun. One of these days I may pop on again, see who's still alive. Although, I'm pretty sure you'd be dealing with some hardened veterans still there. Just take it in stride, check your pride at the door, fun is more important.

I haven't been with the series the whole 20 years but I remember watching a babysitter trying play the demo at their house (I was 9 years old and wasn't allowed to touch the ground breaking and expensive PS). The guy and his wife were hardcore gamers but had difficulty with the game. So didn't everyone else that came by to play (Not many people had PlayStation at the time. Sega Saturn was also a competitor) Man, those gaming days really did seem special, but I will always remember the demo arena and how most people would try to play it once or twice then move on to the tomb raider demo or something.

Anyway the game really stuck with me. We were poor bastards so I didn't get a PlayStation until 4 or 5 years later and one of the first games I got was TM1. Later borrowed TM2 from someone on the bus. Think I traded Tekken for it? When TM3 came out I was really excited and with the whole rob zombie theme just made it even more exciting. I knew nothing about game devs or studios. To me it was just someone slapping their label on it, but the whole game was one big moment of "Wtf happened here?" story wasn't memoriable and the vehicles were odd. Still put up and accepted it. Then TM4 came out. Game physics only worsened, but it was the story and what they did to sweet tooth that outright pissed me off. I thought to myself "Well this series is fucked". No amount of rob zombie was saving it at that point. I don't know I guess some people just agree with the notion or not.

When Black came out of course I was going to check it out and holy grail shit. Great time in gaming overall. I regret to say however the online edition simply came too late for me. I had already played the shit to death out of black and the 4p multiplayer, and socom online was really sweeping me off my feet. Then someone made another colossal mistake of only releasing TMHO on psp. I took notice of the game but I didn't have a psp, so, yeah.. once again that game was also ported to the ps2 too late. Somehow I missed small brawl completely until I came here, and I was pleasantly surprised with tmps3.

So my level isn't impressive compared to some of the people here, collecting memorabilia and such. I admire that level and also the vets that have legitimately been with the series the entire 20 years.

I played TM1 when I was two years old, though I don't remember really liking the game at that time... until I played TM2. Then I became hooked. This franchise is just wonderful: the characters, the vehicles, the levels... Not a single week passes without me thinking about that series. The only games I've never played are TM:BO and TM:HO ETE, but I've seen videos of them.
Yeah, I really love Twisted Metal. I even frequently dream about playing TM2 on co-op mode with my brother!
I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore, diehard, psycho fan of Twisted Metal, but it really has a large place in my heart.

I would definitely consider myself a relatively hardcore fan of the series between the sheer amount of time I've invested in playing the games and participating in the community, though I was never a part of the core TMA community. For a number of years in the late 2000's I ran a Twisted Metal community was an offshoot of TMA, and had a few hundred registered members. Sadly, the site didn't sustain itself to the announcement of TM PS3, and was ultimately purged when the host I used (GameSpot) stopped supporting external communities. As of now I'm an admin of another Twisted Metal site, Twisted Clans, which exists specifically for TM PS3 players. Things have been slow there lately as well, but we recently renewed the domain and plan on kickstarting it again.

As far as my history playing TM games go, my first experience was with TM2, then TM4, and then picked up previous and later TMs as they released. I didn't experience much of Black Online thanks to sketchy internet of the time, and didn't have a PSP when Head-On came out, so by the time I got one the game was dead. What time I lacked playing the previous two online games back in the day is made up for the time I've invested in TM PS3 online, with about 1000 hours of in-game time logged across three accounts, which can easily be doubled for the time spent in competitive unranked lobbies where time isn't logged. While a lot of TMA shuns the game from their experiences from the early days, I found a lot more depth with the more time I invested, and ultimately find the game to be one of the most intense and skillful online experiences out there which I still haven't grown tired of while still playing on a near-daily basis.

I'm such a dedicated fan, that I come back to this dead site in hopes that my favorite game will come back, or at the very least, the huge community I remember. I've been on here since the original TMA, and that was when I was in middle school. That's why I said "fuck it", and I'm currently going to school for game design. I'll make a new one myself if I have to, or at least a spiritual successor.
I'm not a die hard fan who owns every piece of TM memorabilia, I just have all of the games, and I enjoy going back to them every few months.

Nice. What school are you going to if you don't mind me asking? I've been interested in pursuing game design off and on but couldn't really find any reputable 4 year colleges that cater to it. There's a ton of phony 2-year for-profit colleges that do, but all you end up with is a useless certificate that no one recognizes and potentially $50,000 bill. I almost fell for that with ITT. Where I live the only one that comes close is DeVry but I've read quite a few nasty reviews and it's very expensive.

I have my own ideas and would also like to put a game together someday.

I don't mean to sidetrack the topic but it's not like this thread is very active anyway. Tongue

Drexel University. 4 year program. One of the top 10 schools for any type of game design. They also offer programming with a concentration in game design. So you can either go with the art or programming portion. They offer a lot of other stuff too. Way too expensive though, but the program so far has been a good learning experience, and I haven't heard anything bad from the upperclassman.

Drexel is a good school, it's close by to me here and has great reviews.  They also have a good job placement, two people I work with (software coders) are from Drexel and they are good coders.

I went to college but I didn't go for computers, I went for business.  Computers was something that I always learned naturally though, and I got a job where I can use both, so it works out. Glad to hear you are a future coder, if I could do it all over again I would be a software engineer instead of a test engineer.  Hours are rough, but the money is much better.

I guess you can say that I'm a moderate TM fan. I have every single title in the series, and I still play them to this day. I was around 6 - 7 years old when I got TM3 (unfortunately) as my first Twisted Metal title. Embarrassed Before I even heard of Twisted Metal, me and dad played, in my opinion, its best competitor: Vigilante 8 (which I think needs to make a comeback at competing with the king of car combat like they did in '98/'99) when I was 5. After my first TM title, Small Brawl was next. Admit it: as soon as you started playing it, you wished they made the actual rc cars from the game. Grin
My next one in the lineup was the original that started it all in 1995. I came to own this one after renting it from Blockbuster multiple times, and then buying it later on. This is where I started to love Twisted Metal, and I wanted to play/own every single one of them. Also around this time, I came to possess the other infamous title in the series, due to me going to my god-brother's house and playing it there with him. I still play for nostalgia reasons today, even though I probably shouldn't. The only things I liked about it was the vehicle creator, battlegrounds, music, and Sweet Tooth's truck. Everything else: KILL IT WITH FIRE! Angry ....Moving on.
Next was Twisted Metal 2, regarded as probably the best Twisted Metal ever, and I agree. Wink I think I was 13 when I first played it, and I've never had so much fun with a Twisted Metal game since. Next in early 2008: Twisted Metal: Black. I found this one to be probably the hardest game in the series I've played. After watching The Dark Past on Head On: Extra Twisted Edition which I received on my 14th birthday that same October, what the creators said about Black made me wonder what it could've been like had Incognito worked on the gameplay more. Head On: ETE is next, with one complaint from me: the vehicles should've been as fast as they were on PSP. Enough said.
Finally there's TMX/PS3. This one is my second favorite behind TM2. Online was probably my favorite aspect of this one, mainly because I got to hang out with some of you guys and have fun. Even after 3 years of its release, I still haven't attempted story mode on Twisted difficulty yet. Shocked
Do I think this series is dead? No. I believe another title could come to PS4 one day. Me and Twisted Metal today is like me and the Alliance: I may not post as often as I used to when I first joined, but at least every now and again I come back to say hi and view other posts. Smiley Anyway, this is where I stand on our beloved series. Where do you stand?

You guys' stories are great. Loving it, I'm easily able to relate all the way through them.

Twisted Metal 2 hands down was my first, the only vague, vivid memory of the first times I ever played it was on a PlayStation 1, on I'd say a '13 inch TV with cranks on the side. I had to have been a couple of years old at best. I played as Sweet Tooth a LOT, I also cheated because I was a kid, I wasn't good at games yet. (I also have memories here and there playing it cooperatively with my big sister, she was a huge Twister fan and she still is)

I remember getting "Twisted Metal 3" at a birthday party of mine, I was in kindergarten at the time, and thinking for what it was, it was okay. (Obviously since I was like most kids at the time and was like "hey it's called Twisted Metal, it's on the PlayStation, it exists") I have memories of actually, on a very guilty pleasure basis, enjoying a few things here and there, but also thinking. "What did they do to Needles Kane? WHY are they calling him by his vehicle's name?!" Still played as him frequently though, amusing how his special was similar to Shadow's in TM2. (Believe me I still prefer Sweet Tooth's special in TM2)

All I honestly can do is give "TM3" is a nod to having multi-tap, console linking, and trying to be different from the first two, and having a relatively good soundtrack. (Other than that, still sucks compared to all the other Twisted Metal games of all time)

I don't recall when exactly I got "Twisted Metal 4", I mean I thought the ability to make your own vehicle was cool, and the saving, and the secret levels, and the soundtrack. But god almighty even I thought at such a young age it was appalling what they did with the non-secret vehicle choices and the actual characters themselves. Only idea I found interesting in the game's so-called "story" was Needles taking over the contest, that, and being able to play as Calypso for once. That was probably about it.

So pushing aside the infamous 989's, next came Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. I first played it in a kiosk in a 'Fred Meyer's' that used to be pretty close to my house. Give or take probably a birthday or Christmas or something I can't recall, I got a copy of it.

So many things I loved about it, but even at the time I was like: "Why is this rated T? Really?" I couldn't really see the ability to have three or four players in "TM3" and "TM4" as something cool because I didn't even HAVE a multi-tap at the time, nor enough controllers.

Taking a break from the games, I remember vividly a few Halloweens where I would be Needles Kane, or at the time "Sweet Tooth."

Anyway, I just thought it was really cool to see instead of real people driving real vehicles fighting each other, there was the kids controlling the RC cars (I wanted to do the same thing in real life, but at the time I wouldn't have thought about how expensive, dangerous, and possibly illegal that'd probably be)

God almighty I loved the soundtrack, from the remixed versions of the original tracks from TM1 and TM2, to some of the original ones. I also loved the Endurance Mode feature, I was obsessed with Moscow/Gridiron Gore's BGM, and I still kind of am today.

Then I can't remember exactly which I got first, I think I was in second grade when we got our family PlayStation 2. I don't recall whether I got Twisted Metal 1 first (I bought it at a Game Crazy used for a couple of bucks, loved it) or if I got Black. (I got that during one of my birthdays, I remember vividly my father telling me not to open the present yet, to shake it, and guess what was inside) But regardless I loved Black, despite how god damn hard it was for me at such a young age, so I used GameShark 2 with it when I played through it. (as Sweet Tooth of course)

You can bet I ate up his Special attack, despite still loving his TM2 special the most, I didn't like his special in TM1 much but it's not one of his worsts. (His special in "TM4" my god... What a joke...)

I had a long hiatus when it came to getting new Twisted Metal games due to something happening to my father in 2002. (I won't go into details, it's personal, and I respect my families privacy)

So yes unfortunately I never got a PSP nor Head-On, And no, I never got a chance to play Twisted Metal Black: Online when it was still online. (I never had a broadband adapter) I still have yet to play it, but believe me when I get a chance. You can bet your ass I will.

However, if I recall. I got Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition I'd say several months after it came out (I was in seventh grade if I recall, due to just remembering I played it with a former best friend of mine. I brought it to his house and let him play it with me. We did the co-op and he chose Mr. Grimm because "Ghost Rider" and I was like "Really? Really?" Then I remember he sucked ass, not surprising since Mr. Grimm is for SKILLED experienced TM players, then he rage-quitted and I laughed and we played something else), and an awesome Logitech Wireless PS2 controller I still own and use today. One of my few, only GOOD memories with GameStop. (I bought the two items with my birthday money, and they were priced pretty good)

You can bet I ate it up, and loved it. Though I played on Super Easy (and I've had my sister play it cooperatively with me as Twister at least once or twice) I at LEAST didn't use cheats like I did when I was younger. Hell, I think I stopped cheating with video games for the most part after I wrote a personal strategy guide in I'd say fourth grade maybe on how to beat the PlayStation version of Doom 2's MAP01 on Ultra-Violence without cheating. But I digress.

I'd say before or during the time Twisted Metal PS3 was coming/came out, I discovered the PC version of Twisted Metal 2 kudos to you guys. I shared it with a couple of friends, played it with them, enjoyed it, and also installed it on a few VERY cheap low-end spare computers in my house and played it with my cousins.

My only experience with Twisted Metal PS3 was at my cousin's house. I mean I've heard what I've heard when it came out in 2012, was really annoyed to no end that they called it just "Twisted Metal" with the argument being: "Hey, you released Twisted Metal in 1995 you douches, stop being trendy hipsters!"

God I couldn't stand it at the time, it was VASTLY different from the former, and I'd say this was only a year or two ago I played it. (Just hear me out, and I admit I don't have much defending points since I didn't experience much of the game)

One of my biggest gripes were the fact that advanced attacks could be simply done by one press on the d-pad (The Twisted Metal games needed to get a little easier here and there on some aspects but NOT to that point)

I played as Sweet Tooth, (no shit lol) and tried Talon. I honestly felt very "meh" about the whole experience, but I'm still thinking if I ever come around to getting the money to buying a PS3, and TMPS3. I'll give it a much more elaborate, and more warranted chance. I'm sure the online kicks ass. I've watched a few videos and it piqued my interest. (Yes it's twenty-fucking-fifteen and I still don't have a PS3, I also still don't own a PSP, nor a copy of Head-On. Shit happens)

On a concluding footnote here, I must say. I will NEVER stop loving Twisted Metal as a whole, I will NEVER forget the wonderful memories I've had. I will NEVER stop playing the games (even TM3 and TM4 if I'm THAT bored, I need a good laugh once and awhile and an effective reminder of just why and how shitty they were!)

I really hope the rumored Twisted Metal PS4 becomes a reality, and I hope it blows our minds just as Black did in 2001, and Twisted Metal 2 did in 1996, and hell, even as Twisted Metal 1 did in 1995.

I really hope to see "Twisted Metal 3" and "Twisted Metal 4" be picked apart by very strong sanitation latex gloves, whilst wearing rad suits, and the very RARE good things will be considered in perhaps a remake of the two games into GOOD games. Call it "Twisted Metal 3 and 4 done right" perhaps.

If we aren't satiated, nor satisfied by the rumored Twisted Metal PS4, or it doesn't happen. We can always further consider seeing and trying our damned hardest in making that REAL "Twisted Metal 3" we all wanted.

Reference: http://tm2alliance.yuku.com/

We just like I say in the thread "[TM2 PSX... HACKING W/O GS/AR?!]HOLY SHIT!" We just need to consider making our OWN "Twisted Metal 3" and try our damned hardest to take what was awesome about the first two games and such, and make something even MORE awesome out of it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, NEVER forget there IS in fact a PC version of Twisted Metal 1.

In the original I love Rooftop level. In TM: Lost I really enjoy the carnival level. I also enjoy Hong Kong in Twisted Metal 2. I love the concert level in Twisted Metal: Head On.

At age 50 I have been a video game addict for 36 years now.
There were approx. 25 games I enjoyed much during that time.
When TM1 came out I played it a few times, and enjoyed it.
When TM2 came out I was hooked from the start, and was clearly the best game experience I ever had.
TMBO was also a lot of fun too, however the other TM games fell short for me.

Sadly I have not bought any video games over the last three years, (a record for me), the games just don't seem to be interesting for me anymore, boring and uncreative.

The industry needs to put more into their games, which means more talented programmers and more $.
I remember 30 years ago paying for $30 dollar video games in which todays prices would be around $75.
So my guess would be that most people would pay big bucks for a real good game, one that one would want to play for several months vs several days.

I can't say for sure but after seeing all that I have seen over the years, my guess is that they are working on a TMPS4 game that will be released within the next two years.

Been playing TM2 since I was about 4 years old, on my dad's PS1. It was my introduction to the TM series. A few years later, I got TM:B for our new PS2 and I loved it, even though, as a little kid, some of the characters scared me. (No-Face, Mr. Grimm) I've played every game in the series, and I still play TM:B every other day.. so I'd have to go with diehard, haha. But not too diehard to where I ignore some of the issues I have with some games, but that's for a different post.  Shocked
