TMPS3 Pie Chart

This is a culmination of opinions and reviews outside of TMA since the game's release. Majority of it coming from Facebook and YouTube. Most attention centers around the online, which people seem to be split 50/50 on. So I made 2 charts. I don't personally agree with everything on them, but this is the picture I've been getting.

...

Overall the game was favorable.

The only thing I didn't really agree with was the unoriginal and Talon.

Unoriginal
- So unoriginal in fact that fans of the earlier games thought it was a spit in the face. This surprised me because while yes the character and vehicle was done away with, I felt the game did retain an original look and feel, true to Twisted Metal.

Talon/Flying Sweet Tooth
- I can see why this would upset people that want to play a car-combat game, but I was intrigued by the addition of transitioning from ground to air combat. From a dev standpoint I think this would be almost impossible to do properly in car combat, almost. And don't ask me I don't have the answer. Most either love it or hate it. I'm in the middle. It could be good or bad.

Flying shouldn't have been in the game period. There's a reason why we turn off Talon in high level unrank matches. Do you know what a noob does when he's getting killed too many times? Instead of trying to get better at the game and learning from his mistakes, he will resort to Talon just so he can shoot and hide behind roofs. Flying makes this game look dumped down to help people that were terrible at the old Twisted Metal games. You can fly in Vigilante 8 2nd Offense but it's more balanced.

About the unoriginal part, maybe their talking about the cars having the same specials? Twisted Metal itself is more original then the mass number of first person shooters that keeps being made.

If there was an option to remove health packs from a game, I wouldn't be so against Talon; it would change the way a player  uses Talon, as it would deter a campy gameplay style. They might still camp, but all they could do is wait for energy to regenerate for shields.

If you dislike the whole game because of Talon, you weren't a fan in the first place.

Sure TMX has some problems here and there like some weapons being undodgeable but it was done on purpose. The difference in speed between the slowest car and the fastest car is massive. Not like TMB where the difference in speed is small.
So when you have such a diffenerce you need some weapons in order to stop fast cars in 1vs1 games. Thus preventing TM2 advantage of fast cars and yet keeping the big difference in speed.

There are a lot of innovations in TMX:

- the turbo dash is the most satisfying thing ever done in a car combat game.

- the sniper rifle. So cool to use stage 3 where you throw you opponent in the air.

- the driver and the other guy(I forgot the word) kills which grant you extra health and random weapons.

- the jump. Yes it's not new but here it protects you from MANY things such as turbo rams, ram specials, shockwaves, ricos, Shadow and Meat Wagon specials. The most usable jump in any Twisted Metal game.

- faster energy regeneration for some cars. That was done for the first time.

- Juggernaut. The way of becoming 3 cars into one is a cool feature and the future of the series. Too bad we can't play as Brothers Grim vs some fully powered Juggernauts(with two cars inside).

Overall I like TMX as much as TMB, maybe better. The controls are much better than TMB slideness.

I think it's cool you love TM:PS3, but let's not rewrite history to do it.

Yes, the lack of dodging was on purpose, but it had nothing to do with balancing big cars vs small cars. It was clearly the natural evolution of TMHO's reduced dodging which was done to combat the perception of lag between players (when weapons would miss noobs would blame lag), reduce the skill gap between veterans and noobs, and to make matches shorter for a more pick up and play feel conducive to modern attention spans.

The speed gap between big cars and small cars in Black is a large one. The entire advantage of speed in any fight is maneuverability. The big guy hits harder but due to his opponent's speed he might miss. Twisted Metal didn't invent this concept, it's been around since time began.

The older games embraced this and it kept the little cars competitive. It is no coincidence that players of the new game regularly complain that small cars can't compete.

I like dodging every weapon in Twisted 2 and TMB, but I also appreciate TMX innovations.
TMB speed between small and big cars is not as big as TM2 and TMX. Good handling is another thing. Speed itself is not.

TMHO has very slow speed cars overall without the turbo upgrade and very fast weapons traveling making it not so good game overall for me.

That was beautiful

Nice to see people are being mature about this.

I really love Tmps3, although I feel limited to my participation. I got pummeled in the death matches a few months ago so I only do TDM now, and with my skill at 44% I'm getting kicked out of rooms.

I can hold my own and I could use some help, but there's no helping 5 JYD's vs 1 DW. I don't blame the players either. It's only logical to go after an easy kill. I'm only a few stalkers and a ram away from death. I only have 2 shields that last 1 sec each. I would kill me first too. It really is a great game though.

Nope. Juggernaut was a bad idea when you realize how broken it is. Juggernaut is nothing but God's gift to people who are bad at the game. This is the other vehicle that they resort to when their getting killed so many times. It's the best car to kill the weak players with and start running on killstreak. The newbie players are not smart enough to stay away from it, so they will try to attack it head on only to be killed and make the team lose. It's even worst when there's a Junkyard Dog that is healing it. Juggernaut has 700 health and gains 300 from stage 2 health taxi. It's broken in maps like Skid Row which is a small stage. Sure you can snipe Juggernaut but that doesn't change the fact that it's a broken car that people who are bad at the game hides behind. It's turned off in high level unrank matches. Your team could be winning and suddenly the enemy brings out this truck and start running over people. I remember using Juggernaut in Skid Row and I dealt 175 damage on a good Shadow player who just spawn. Can you imagine losing half your health at the moment you respawn? I bet Juggernaut is part of the reason in the unbalanced section of the pie chart.

Small cars would have an easier time if they nerf the remote bomb and stalker missile. You can't remove the remote bomb once an enemy puts it on you, unless you ram someone which doesn't happen often. The last patch accidently buffed it. As for stalker missiles, this weapon is better than the swarmer and the fact that you can keep the missile and recharge it by switching to another weapon to prevent it from backfiring, is what really annoys small cars. When you freeze someone that is charging it, they will still have it.

I was talking about the idea of Juggernaut, not the balance issue with him. As I said Brothers Grim vs some fully powered Juggernauts would have been cool.
I won't hate something because it's not balanced well. It's like hating TM2 because of Spectre.

It cool seeing everyone opinions on the game. Mine would probably fit into the the small group that was annoyed by the unoriginal specials!! All the unbalanced, connection errors, even Talon don't bug me so much as feeling like I only have half the selection of characters as previous Twisted Metals. I now its a nit pick but I LOVED the individual character stories, and the unique feeling of every car in the past games. Hell even if the stories of some of the characters were utter crap I liked having them. But this game totally destroyed that, and I can honestly say It was the very first thing I noticed when I first put in the game to play in 2012. I thought to myself..."well crap not cool I miss having 15 different drivers" Not a good first impression of the writing lol. The second thing I noticed when first playing the game.."well crap Sweettooth has specters special, specters isn't in the game...oh 4 cars have turrent machine gun specials, two cars have the same flamethrower... and so on. This part really made me upset at first "obviously I am over it, and still enjoy the game." The past games It was fun switching around, and trying out every single character in the game just to get a feel for them. Handling a speed aside, I never pick certain cars because there specials are too similar/ carbon copies of each other with one just doing higher damage ect. For example I never pick Roadkill because I already have Death Warrant. I feel silling picking Crimson Fury or Kamikaze, because yay same flamethrower, ect ect. I wish they would have kept some of the original specials for the old cars in the series instead of adding so many bullet/ turrent/crush specials. Give me my bouncing pink ice cream cones, give me boomerang missiles, hell give me back TM2 Warthog lol.
