Yea. This thread is still a thang.

I don't like the word hate For TMX. For me, it's really disappointment. I couldn't like the game for the simple fact I couldn't play much online. The errors were amazing. That alone is inexcusable.

It took me 2 short months to realize that I just couldn't play anymore. I honestly held on for as long as I could but, it wasn't anything I could get enjoyment out of. It's a real shame it was part of a reason why this community got split but, that's life and peoples opinions.

For the people who still play it, great. Have a blast. Just no reason to even debate the why's. It's not going to change anyone's minds.

Yeah you pretty much nailed it man.

Still though, people need to get on that TMBO.  Wink

I wanted to take a moment to thank you guys in carrying on this debate in the furthering of understanding what happened. I wish more people would have participated including those still playing TM2012. It may have encouraged both parties to take a closer look at either games. I can understand people not wanting to get involved out of fear of being slandered or just wanting to remain an innocent bystander, or maybe they just rather play Twisted Metal. But I think these debates help a lot.

For defense tactics in TM2012 there's the basic shield which is almost useless since it only last 1 second and takes awhile to regenerate. That leaves the absorb shield which I believe lasts 2 seconds but even in today's atmosphere I notice most people do not use it or use it incorrectly. If mastered it could be the defense tactic I so desperately need, but I haven't yet. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

Why does the weapons tracking have to be so accurate compared to classic TM's?? I'm no fighter pilot but I think in the real world real missiles aren't even that accurate. There seems to be an increasing devaluing of practicality in each new TM. For example in TM1 the driving mechanics seemed flawed because you can't turn while the vehicle is sitting still. This made all the driving mechanics seem 'clunky' but in actuality you cannot turn a vehicle while it is stationary. Being the first TM I'm guessing they realized this and at the time were really trying to go for realistic-ness. But it's a video game so for the sake of running smoothly and really just having fun they did away with it. Not that I wanted it to carry on either, just using as example. So going on that theory they must be thinking weapons landing 100% of the time and people dying/respawning every 5 seconds must be fun?
I didn't want to step in because it's the same horse that was dug up from it's grave to beaten again. There's nothing new about this debate. I already know the TM2/TMBO guys are right. Dodging in TMX is hardly existing. There's no denying it.

The issue with them is that the weapon mechanics of TM4 really nulled the value of having a maneuverable vehicle. There were so many weapons that didn't require precise aim and easily caught vehicles in their area of effect, so having a vehicle with a small hitbox didn't help much. Most weapons traveled quicker than a person could react to them, so the lighter vehicles couldn't dodge or negate much of what was thrown at them. Heck, a lot of the lighter vehicles in TM4 didn't even have a big advantage in the speed and handling departments to start with, and I think Orbital surpasses all of them in both categories.
Actually the weapons in TM4 can be dodged. Slow cars like Super Slamm can dodge homing missiles and the M.I.R.V missile, except for the last hit which makes a really sharp curve and always lands.

Also please post this video of you dodging everything that isn't an area attack. I want to see actual dodging not misfires. I want to see you turning/turboing in a way that makes the weapon miss you after tracking you. I want to see you dodging this stuff in actual combat. I want to see you winning a battle/game because you dodged more than your opponents. I want to see you firing your weapons in certain ways and at certain times with the sole purpose to prevent your opponents from dodging. I looked at one of your latest videos on youtube with the "high skill" and it is just collect weapons, find closest enemy, and mega gus/unload with some shields thrown in. I really want to see different like you claim so show us.
We don't do that. All we do is shoot everything before the other car kills you. How will a car like Roadkill or Outlaw is going to that, when it's special require you to be looking at the opponent for 5 seconds? During those 5 seconds it's getting shot too. And lets not forget the powerful weapon in the series, the undodgable remote bomb that you can stick to a car from long range.

There's one more thing I forgot to mention. The number one reason why TMX has little to no dodging is because the programmers themselves didn't even know what dodging in TM looks like. David Jaffe had to ask the fans how do people dodge in the old TM games. That right there was a sign that the game was not going to have much dodging, because the creator didn't even know how to do it himself.

It's an old topic, but since I've uploaded some TM 2012 1v1s over the last while, I figured I'd post them here. It's a shame that there's such little footage of skilled 1v1s out there, for the entire series really.

I had a excellent 1v1 match with mr.doom on Twisted 2 several years ago. Sure he out classed me due to the fact I never played against a living person, but I had a blast.

The 1v1 game isn't very balance in TM, it's really meant to either be a LMS/FFA or Team game, IMO.  The best/only way to grade skill in 1v1 matches is to have "mirror" matches where duelists play the same car and vs each other.  Can do multiple cars and see who comes out on top of the Best of 3 or Best of 5 series.

A 1v1 with different cars has too many variables to be fair.  Someone with a lot of experience could always use the map, weapons, special differences to tweak balance in their favor.

That's pretty much what I said a few pages back, but people have to debate it and try and say which one is the end all be all.

Tell me about it. In the PS3 TM a Shadow gains a huge advantage over a Roadkill in maps with a lot of walls in a 2vs2 match like Skid Row. The developers did not put much thought into Roadkill's special. It is a waste of a special and a waste of time when you charge up the special, only for the enemy to get behind a wall and there's no way to pause the missiles. TMBO Roadkill doesn't have this problem because it can hold on to the special forever. Cheesy
