Yeah I think what you said is correct. Especially after just noticing most games get a 7-9 range score. On the subject of game reviews, I wouldn't discard them completely, but they're only part of the story. Copies sold is the probably the best indicator, but if you're going to ask how many copies sold then you should also ask how many people even knew about the game. Because I only found out through a friend, and when I played the demo I was like "holy shit TM is back" (hadn't played since TMB)
I tried looking up some hard current numbers the other day and can only find that 400,000 sold in the first 2 months. I think it's safe to assume the game sold an additional 400,000 since then? Or 200,000 anyway. So 600,000-800,000 isn't too bad. The multiplayer last time I checked is either 200,000 or 300,000 registered users. I could be very off on that, just guessing at this point, but that would probably bring the copies sold number down to 600,000. Seeing as it was an multiplayer-only intended game.
I don't like putting anyone down but Malefactor had a good point in the other thread that most gamers today prefer simple easy to play games like cod where you get plopped down on a map, run in that direction, pull trigger/shoot gun, die/respawn within 5 seconds, repeat for 1-6hours straight.
