TMX was largely a success. IGN even gave the game 9/10. The success of a game would normally guarantee a sequel, but in this case it became too much of a headache for the original creators. From what I understand they are stepping away, leaving the fate of the series very uncertain.

Reviews arnt what matter. Its the bottom line and the climate us terrible for risk at the moment.

While it got good reviews it didn't make tons of money.

Jaffe said Sony made their money back so i don't think they took a hit. It just wasn't a blockbuster hit they were hoping for. I do believe theres gonna be another game just not sure when and who's gonna make it?

Thanks for rehashing what was already said.

Profit is what matters, not breaking even. Especially in the current climate.

Yeah I think what you said is correct. Especially after just noticing most games get a 7-9 range score. On the subject of game reviews, I wouldn't discard them completely, but they're only part of the story. Copies sold is the probably the best indicator, but if you're going to ask how many copies sold then you should also ask how many people even knew about the game. Because I only found out through a friend, and when I played the demo I was like "holy shit TM is back" (hadn't played since TMB)

I tried looking up some hard current numbers the other day and can only find that 400,000 sold in the first 2 months. I think it's safe to assume the game sold an additional 400,000 since then? Or 200,000 anyway. So 600,000-800,000 isn't too bad. The multiplayer last time I checked is either 200,000 or 300,000 registered users. I could be very off on that, just guessing at this point, but that would probably bring the copies sold number down to 600,000. Seeing as it was an multiplayer-only intended game.

I don't like putting anyone down but Malefactor had a good point in the other thread that most gamers today prefer simple easy to play games like cod where you get plopped down on a map, run in that direction, pull trigger/shoot gun, die/respawn within 5 seconds, repeat for 1-6hours straight.

Globally they are at 750k but it may be a little more since i believe they don't track digital sales. http://www.vgchartz.com/game/70437/twisted-metal-2012/

It should be noted that VGChartz's sales estimates aren't reliable. When they don't have an established source (such as the NPD) to borrow their data from, they simply make it up. Unfortunately they don't do anything to distinguish "reliable" data from "their" data.

Personally, I have no idea if there are any plans for a new TM.

But I will say that we live in an age of reboot rather than renovation. Think of the number of movies that have been "re-visited" in the last decade or so.

In  the video game world, we see it also with titles such as Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Twisted Metal itself.

In theory, it isn't that difficult to imagine how this could be managed with a TM title on PS4. Simply taking TM and TM2, updating the graphics and a bit of gameplay, tossing in online multiplayer, and throwing it onto a PS4 platform would be quite enough as a start for many of us, whether we choose to acknowledge this or not.

As for developers: maybe it doesn't matter. As one of the older posters here, I am guilty (though unashamed) of posting outlandish ideas for a new TM title myself, as have many, many others at TMA. For all we know, TMX and its shortcomings could have had its origins in posts such as those.

As creators of games that we all did love and enjoy, they are capable of learning from these experiences and building a better game.

No, they should fix the fucking PS3 TMX first before they ever decide on any sequels.

I agree with this but too bad it's not going to happen. The game will stay having network errors.

I don't see why ESP can't make some stupid kickstarter and just see what happens. Maybe they will meet their goal and fix the damn game. Maybe they won't and it will continue to have network errors. Why aren't they trying?

I'm waiting for an anniversary release or something. TM is 20 years old come November. I'm still waiting for some surprise HD collection or new title to be announced. This series is too good for Sony to shit on it, and I believe that was one of their problems with marketing. They go for these over the top cinematic games now, and ignore their fun characters they had during the PS1 era. They could be milking the hell out of Crash, Spyro, or Sweet Tooth, and I'd be ok with it.
