Setup for TMBO Server Guide for PS2/3

Necessary to play on the custom server:
Special Note, Please read:
Forwarding of ports 10070 and 10075 (UDP/TCP) to your PS2/PS3 LAN IP address (from within your router) is strongly recommended! If ports are not forwarded, there may be problems joining or hosting game rooms!

Step 1

http://i.imgur.com/vPIKIzP.jpg1
  • Boot up a game that has a network utility creation function on your PS2 and click on "online" or "network"
  • In this example I am using Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2 that will eventually allow me to get to the PS2 network utility feature

Step 2

  • Upon selecting to create or edit a network connection, you should be taken to this screen
  • Click "Add Setting"

Step 3

  • Leave Secondary DNS Blank

Step 8

http://i.imgur.com/Akbk09f.jpg1
  • Name your network profile, and save
  • You do not need to test connection when it asks
  • You are finished now after saving, so you can quit the game and throw in TMBO

Step 9

http://i.imgur.com/nh1BbvP.jpg1
  • Boot up TMBO and get to the Main Menu
  • Select Options first

Step 10

http://i.imgur.com/3FCgFeE.jpg1

http://i.imgur.com/jRbUXKT.jpg1
  • The announcements screen should pop-up with information, Press X to proceed to the server lobby
  • If the server detects your ports are not forwarded, the announcements screen may display a special message requesting you to do so (second picture link)

Could you provide more details about your setup?
Router brand and model
Did you DMZ or forward the ports (10070/10075) to your PS2?

At which point does TMBO throw an error?

Connecting directly to my Airport router from my BC PS3 through wifi worked well. I had to go into my Airport utility and under the network tab set up the UDP TCP port forwarding. I was able to start a game. Though unable to join any.

I was unable to figure out how to get it working running an ethernet cable into my Mac and then connecting to the Wifi. I will try that again later.

The host of the room probably didn't have their PS2/3 DMZd or ports forwarded.
The room you tried to join, was it called "Paint It Black"? I ask because the host of that room never really has any problems with people joining his games.

I'll leave a room open for testing purposes, "Test Room".

Cool. I can join the games waiting room. But when I hit play game it won't advance past the the waiting for host... / loading screen. I can still hit triangle to go back to the waiting room though.

*EDIT* Ahhhhhh I see, it's a synchronous game, so that maybe explains it. Still. I also see DARKFORCE listed as in the game. So in theory, this is working.

Note for people playing on the BETA SERVER:

If you are quitting the game for the day, please use the exit game option from the start menu, then back out to the main menu of TMBO BEFORE turning off your console (Where it says Internet/LAN/Options). If you turn off your console in the server lobby or in-game it can potentially crash the server sometime later on.

Hey Roadie, does this guide also pertain to a fat ps3 user setting up with a ps2 online start up disc 4.0? This is the situation I have & really hope the process is just as easy under these conditions.

My router is verizon and it looks like this:
...
I get an error when I go to Internet and it's trying to connect but fails. I did port forwarded but can't test if I did it right. http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee91/Luis2_06/Port%20Forwarding_zpshkcvdwyj.j... It's at the bottom in green.

The port forwarding looks correct from what I'm able to see.
If you open up command ("cmd" in the windows search box) and type in "nslookup tmblack2002-prod.pdonline.scea.com 173.198.252.240" does it match mine?
...

I know you were able to connect once before, but never again.
There is another player with this same issue, but he was able to connect to the server a few times before it decided never to connect ever again. Hopefully this issue is not ISP related.

The problem may be your ISP from the looks of it.

Using alternate DNS server instructions: http://www.verizon.com/support/residential/internet/fiosinternet/troubleshooting...

Try using any of these DNS servers in your router settings

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. These are Google Public DNS Servers.
You can otherwise use OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

Make sure you note down your original DNS addresses, because you may need them if this doesn't work (still can't connect to tmbo server).

If nothing else works and things seem completely hopeless, you might want to give the following cheat device codes a try...

FYI the codes below are raw/unencrypted and designed for the NTSC-U version of TMBO. Use something like Omniconvert to encrypt them for AR MAX.

Mastercode
902A38B0 0C0A8DD4

TMBO Revival Server (173.198.252.240)
204E7638 2E333731
204E763C 2E383931
204E7640 2E323532
204E7644 00303432
204E7648 00000000
204E764C 00000000
204E7650 00000000
204E7654 00000000
204E7658 00000000
20316AEC 2E333731
20316AF0 2E383931
20316AF4 2E323532
20316AF8 00303432
20316AFC 00000000
20316B00 00000000
20316B04 00000000
20316B08 00000000
20316B0C 00000000

The aforementioned codes programmatically change the server TMBO tries to log into. By using them, there's no need to deal with adjusting DNS settings. Just make sure you clear your custom DNS setting from step 7 of RoaDiE's guide before trying to log into TMBO.

The downside of using a cheat device for this is that you'll have to deal with the hassle of starting up the cheat device before playing TMBO every time. The DNS method is a lot more user-friendly because you only have to set it up once, and then everything is saved so you don't need to do anything special afterwards.

Lastly, regarding port forwarding, that has no bearing on whether or not you can connect to the revival server. Players with blocked ports will always be able to login, but will be greeted by a warning message as their lobby announcement.

Once you sort out your DNS problems and manage to login successfully, I suspect you're going to end up seeing the warning message in the lobby. The message will mention your router's LAN IP address (192.168.1.1) as well as your PS2's LAN IP address (192.168.1.x). Upon seeing the warning, note down your PS2's LAN IP. Then, login to your router, go to its port forwarding settings and replace "173.198.252.240" with your PS2's LAN IP at the bottom.

Good luck Smiley!

I'm gonna try the action replay code. I'm not familiar with dealing with the DNS stuff.

Wait I just remembered I have to use Omniconvert for that code and it's big. It might take a while to find one that works in Omniconvert.

Edit: I can go online now. Shocked By the way is the PS3 able to connect to TMB Online wirelessly? Mines is not backwards compatible and will be using my PS2 for it. I'm just asking for those who has sold their PS2 for a PS3. A lot of PS3 users use wireless and not the Ethernet cable, even though Ethernet cables are better.

Edit2: Oops I just noticed that there's a room that I made that is stuck on the list and won't go away when I refresh. Forgot to log off before turning off the PS2. How do you get rid of it?

A few of us (in the past...through xlink kai) have played TMBO through a wireless connection on a BC Phat PS3 and it worked fine. It was through LAN mode, but I think online mode should work as well.

There is nothing you can do about a hollow room that's in the lobby list. The best prevention is to completely log off the TMBO server then turn off your PS2.

No worries, I got rid of the hollow room for ya.
