Thank you for this preservationist effort! I'm going to be hosting a PlayStation 2 meetup and I want to offer Twisted Metal Black Online as an option for people.

Are the servers still online? Last night I tried following the exact steps to setup the network utility creation function using Midnight Club 3: DUB Remix. It timed out. And a few nights ago I had first tried the original Network Adapter Disc with the manual settings and using my public IP address and I couldn't get that to work either. Is there anything else I can try?

Hello,

Yes, it is still working, but your ISP may not like the custom DNS we use.
You may need to add the TMBO server DNS to your router or try the cheat codes listed in this thread http://temp.tmalliance.com/?num=1476242752

I was able to login to it properly for a few minutes last night.

The revival server is online at virtually all times. It automatically restarts every day at 4:30 AM PST, but that likely doesn't take anymore than 1-2 minutes and it's highly unlikely anyone would be connected to it at that time. The server seldom gets taken down for extended periods of maintenance.

By "public IP address", do you mean your WAN IP? AFAIK there are no advanced settings in any PS2 network configuration utilities that require manual entry of your WAN IP. If you typed it in somewhere when filling out your settings, you've probably made a mistake.

Most of the suggestions in the thread you linked are tailored towards PCSX2 troubleshooting and won't apply to anyone using a real PS2.

I'd say only the following things discussed in that thread could potentially help VideogameScrapbook (or anyone else running into setup problems using a physical PS2/PS3 console):
  • Enabling DMZ on the PS2's LAN IP in his router's settings.
  • Router DNS adjustments or cheat device codes (as you mentioned).

@VideogameScrapbook If you end up using PS2 cheat device codes, I'd recommend using the ones I posted in reply #12 from this thread. That post includes a mastercode (which most PS2 cheat devices require).

Keep in mind that if you use those cheat codes, you won't need to set your primary DNS to 173.198.252.240 in any router/PS2 network settings. You'll probably want to stick with a PS2 network configuration that uses automatic (DHCP) settings.

So I finally got around to trying again and I got in successfully. I didn't have to do a DMZ or anything else, it just worked for me this time (I might have messed up a step in the directions). Currently there are no other players logged in.

Are there times where there a decent number of players online at the same time? I'm going to host the PS2 meetup on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM CT. We have a lot of games we're going to play a bit during that time, so I can't guarantee if you logged on during that time that you'd see our group, but maybe others that are watching this thread would also join.

Thanks for the help, and regardless if I do ever get to play the game online with others, it was enjoyable to at least see the server message! Smiley

Hello guys, I want to ask if this video is completely right in the process of setting up to play TMB online:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5RFmquf6Ao

If that's the case, someone knows wich other game has an easy way to set up as GT4? If I'm succesful I could play basically every saturday. Thanks in advance.

I'll join for a few games Tuesday myself as long as my other obligations are taken care of and there's room.
