Sidearms

This game allows you to change the machine gun for your car. What's your opinion on the sidearms? I recently startled using the sub machine gun since I never used the other sidearms before. I have only been using the mounted guns. The SMG shoots four bullets at a time and can track cars but it's doesn't home that well. They say this is good for fast cars. I see a lot of people use the rockets.

I actually asked about that before, I only got an answer from Mosh saying that Rockets are the best.

I personally go with Mounted Guns and Rockets on Roadkill, more like a mood thingy.

I saw a lot of people using the Laser Pistol on Warthog and Axel.

I believe if you wanna play all serious and do the maximum damage possible, pick rockets.
If you just wanna chill around go with other Sidearms.

Here's something to mention, I haven't tried all Sidearms in this, but when I go Nuke, I pick mounted guns.

Rockets won't home on the Missile, but Mounted Guns' bullets do.

I'd say 95% of seasoned players use rockets. Their homing ability is massively overpowered for the relatively high amount of damage they inflict,  and the recharge period isn't really that drastic. They are extremely useful for poaching others' targets in FFA matches, and the fact that they're a fire-and-forget weapon makes them the most practical sidearm as well. You can certainly deal more damage with the other sidearms, but they command too much of your attention to make full use of them, and sidearms are rarely a major factor in the outcome of a skirmish. Mounted guns are pretty useless, unless you're using a flying vehicle, in which case they gain slight homing ability. The UZI is slightly better, but rockets are still more reliable. The shotty can be effective since it has a mild stun ability like the shotgun pick-up does, but the instances where it's actually useful are rare. The magnum and laser pistol both require too much conscious thought. I went for a long period trying to master the magnum, but even when combining it with power missiles, they often shoot from a different side of the vehicle (depending on which vehicle you use), so even for the laser pistol's 25 DD, there's not enough payoff for the effort of trying to line that up. Sidearms work best for finishing off a damaged target than trying to inflict intermediate damage, and the rockets' reliability easy make it the best sidearm to build up a streak towards mega guns. Heck, rockets are even more effective than mega guns are against skilled lightweight players, for that matter.

At first I didn't know what those missiles that comes out of the rocket were, because I wasn't aware of that sidearm's existence. I thought someone fired a half charged swarm missiles but it couldn't be because you will have to pick it up first. They fire it soon as the match starts. I wouldn't like using it though, even though it's the most popular sidearm. I want to have something that I can keep shooting. You'll never know that one bullet has lowered someone's health enough for the homing missile to kill. Yeah their homing is too good. I turn a corner or climb up a hill and it still hit.

I've never really been good with the rockets.  Plus I don't like it having a recharge time, because I'm so used to the constant fire of the mounted guns.  The rockets HAVE been useful in the past, but they don't deal enough damage for me to really care.

Honestly, I rarely ever use sidearms.  Maybe that's why I'm still a meh player online because I don't take advantage of them, but whatever.  I've tried using the different ones, but don't really find any real useful.

Yeah the best bet for sidearm is rockets because it's an almost always guaranteed 15dmg every minute or however long it takes to recharge. Feels a bit sheepish but that's the best way to be if you want points. I've strayed away from rockets periodically but usually go back for the points.

When I'm not using rockets I use the sawed-off. It can be effective if used properly. Most of all though it fires like it's suppose to. Not this 4 round burst crap.  I understand they didn't want to overpower anything but at 1dmg per bullet there isn't much overpowering to be done. If so then they could make it .5dmg for something like the uzi. Just imagine, a tm where you could have sidearms of various types that fire the way they are suppose to.

Like the pistol sidearm that we only saw in trailers. So cool

I don't really have anything good to say about the laser pistol. I agree with what muddeh said. commands too much attention and not enough payout to line that kind of shot up.

I like to use the magnum with sweet tooth for close quarter combat. It too was also effective when I was able to land the shots. And of course it was cool to hang out the window with sweet tooth and fire a magnum. Truth is I didn't use it much though, but I'd still keep it around.

Like many others, I go with the rockets because they deal a sizable amount of damage without taking too long to reload. Plus they home in on the enemies well. Or i pick the revolver (66 damage points is extremely good for a sidearm) when I feel like it. The SMG is too weak and the laser pistol takes too long to charge.

I have been using the sub machine gun and enjoying it. I tried out the others and didn't like them. Their recharge time doesn't suit me and most of them only moves straight.

I'm probably not being fair with the sub machine gun. I used it once and didn't like it, so I can't speak on it's performance.

I guess when a gun is labeled "sub machine gun" I'm  expecting full auto. 3 or 4 round burst pistol would have been just fine. Would've made sense anyway. What's worse for me though is the allure that I was going to get a sub machine gun, and instead got a 4-round burst tech 9.

The sub machine gun can home a little but it's really not as great as it sounds. It can hardly hit a moving target from a 9 O clock angel but it's better than the mounted guns, when it comes to shooting Reaper in front of you because the bullets are coming from one side. I use it because with this, I don't have to aim my car in a way so that both sides of the machine gun can hit the enemy. The bullets are only coming from one side.

By the way yesterday when I fired the sub machine gun into the sky, I saw that it actually fires seven bullets but when you hit someone, it only does four damage. Huh

4dmg would mean a lot to a reaper too

So the bullets already do around .5 dmg. Why didn't they go all the way and make it an actually machine gun? These small trivial things make a big difference for me.

With all of that said, I like the addition of sidearms. So much that I would play a car combat game with nothing but sidearms.

I went to test it in split screen multiplayer to see how long it takes to kill the car. It really does only four damage, despite the fact that it fires seven bullets unfortunately. It doesn't make sense. I would like to use the magnum but that looks like a gun that can only hit big cars. This tropes pretty much sums up these hard to use sidearms: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DifficultButAwesome

Ok it happened. I have startled using the rockets. It's really good. You become a normal car that can't shoot when you got no weapons during the reload time but that's ok. Because I got Roadkill's special to rely on for big damage. It's possible for Roadkill to deal 122 damage with the blood missiles and I'm loving it. The rockets is the best sidearm against Talon.
