No. I believe the ps3 TMB is the original TMB. And TBO is a separate version.

Just to expand on what †Adonael mentioned, the variant of TMB that came with TMX is the "original" version of that game. It contains single player story/challenge/endurance modes, as well as various local multiplayer modes. TMBO on the other hand, is a separate online-only expansion game.

When TMB was first released, PS2 online gaming didn't exist yet. It wasn't until roughly a year later that the PS2 network adapter launched. When the adapter finally came out in North America, it was packaged with a postcard that could be mailed out to Sony to redeem a free TMBO disc. This was probably because TMBO wasn't ready in time for the network adapter's launch. Furthermore, TMBO also came packaged as a separate disc in certain specially-marked greatest hits versions of TMB. Not every greatest hits version of TMB came with TMBO, though.

If you're still interested in getting a working TMBO setup, you'll need these:
  • A real PS2 with a network adapter (unless you're using a PS2 slim/PSX), or a PS3 that's backwards-compatible with PS2 discs (20/60/80GB models)
  • A TMBO disc (not the same thing as a TMB disc)
  • A PC
  • A router (ISP-supplied modem/router hybrids aren't recommended)
Hope this helps Smiley.

I found a TMBO not that expansive so my 2 big questions are :

- Do i will be able to play via Xlink online with all of you if i have a PAL copy of TMBO ?

- Since i have a PS2 Slim, can i connect it with a regular network link ?

I know for a fact a pal ps2 cannot play NTSC games,  unless modded. But if you went through that trouble you would need a NTSC compatible TV.

As for Xlink I have limited knowledge on. Ace can probably help with that.

Ok but Xlink isn't a mod in a way ? because it's not "the official" way to play Twisted Metal .....

if i get a PAL copy it wouldn't be 60FPS ?

Yes Smiley. Having said that, I should note that we only have 6-8 regular players, and only play roughly 1-2 times a week (haven't played any matches in recent weeks but things should resume in the near-future). Everyone who current plays via Xlink Kai are also situated throughout North America, so you may have to take time zone differences into account if you want to join in.

Not sure what exactly you're referring to. If you're using a slim PS2, you won't need a PS2 network adapter (since it's built-into slim PS2s).

Depends on what you consider a mod. Xlink Kai is basically a PC application that can be used as a means of "tricking" old online console games (like TMBO) into playing LAN matches across the internet.

Sony's official NTSC/PAL TMBO servers were taken down in around 2008. So the only ways to play TMBO nowadays are via LAN, online LAN tunneling (e.g. Xlink Kai), or a "revival" server that some members of this community are currently developing (probably won't officially launch for a while).

As for differences between the PAL and NTSC versions of TMBO, feature-wise they're pretty much identical. They can even connect to one-another in via LAN and online servers. Only notable differences are that the PAL version only runs at 50 FPS, and the NTSC version contains a hidden chat mode that can be unlocked via a button press code (PAL version has the same hidden chat mode but it can only be unlocked via cheat devices).

Sorry - I forgot to mention this in my previous reply Sad.

Unlike some other games, TMBO doesn't have a built-in PS2 network configuration utility. As a result, you'll need another means of setting up a PS2 network configuration if you want to be able to play TMBO at all.

The PS2 network configuration utility can be found in the network adapter setup disc, online startup disc (one of these should've come with your PS2 slim), or certain other online PS2 games (http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=84).

We're hoping to have it running by mid summer. Technically the server works right now, but there are issues that need to be resolved, such as, creating/joining game rooms and account creation.

You don't need Xlink Kai anymore. We have our own server up now lol. All you need is a ps2, ethernet cord and the game.
