Satellite as in Internet Service Provider.
I have Verizon DSL which is through a land line (telephone poles/copper wire). I wish I had FIOS but it's not available in this area. 7mbps Download/.75 Upload isn't too bad though. I'm able to function quite normally. It's by far nothing phenomenal like FIOS which is like 20mbps Down/20mbps Up (fiber optic wire)
There is a large selection of Satellite ISP's available to me that offer ridiculous speeds like 50mbps Download/50mbps Upload for the same price, but from what I understand satellite isn't in true real time and lags behind 2-3 seconds. Supposedly it's a dead end for multiplayer games.
I'm sure this is all common knowledge. Especially to some of the internet guru's here who probably see this as jibbering

Satellite internet is alright. Causes a lot of lag and if there's a cloud in the sky you would get better reaction out of AOL.
Its basically long rang Wi-Fi and we all know we'd rather run cabled than via distant Wi-Fi.
Go to the broke house and get FiOS. Amazing internet, but their routers can be a bitch to host through.
Best experience I've had is with cable internet. Its a little on the expensive, but you can use whatever router with their modem giving you more options and more flexibility.
Fios is worth moving for. If the internet was a means of making money for me I would do it right away. I sometimes see some of the newer youtube stars move to a new location just for the better internet. Must be rewarding to make enough to do that. You're all in at that point.
I tried out Hughesnet a week ago for a 30 day free trial offer. It's free but they did put a $40 hold on my debit card. The first red flag was when the guy didn't show up. I had made an appointment 4 days prior on their terms for Saturday 1pm. At 4pm I called them and they apologized and said someone is on their way. At 5 someone in a beat up white van pulls in the driveway and a foreign guy walks up to my door that speaking little English. he looks at me and says "internet?" I was a bit skeptical if the guy was even from Hughesnet. I was expecting a company person with a company van. So I called Hughes to confirm.
It was frustrating trying to work with the guy on setting everything up in my home since he couldn't speak English. For the most part he just installed the dish and set up the modem. Oh god, the modem. It had a single Ethernet port and zero Wi-Fi capability. Not only do I have to buy a router but now my devices don't work. Shit compared to Verizon's modem with built in router and wireless, and the worst part of all was when I ran the speetest and it came up way slower than even Verizon DSL.
I called them to tell them to take their shit back. I was upset with the modem and speed. They then said they were going to charge me a $400 early cancellation fee. I said it was clearly 30 day trial. After making a fuss they finally said they would go over the recorded conversation and get back to me that Friday. On Monday they called and apologized for the inconvenience, and released the $40 hold.
Good lord... Would have been a $400 inconvenience if I didn't complain. I'm still not out of the woods just yet. I have to package and send the modem back within 30days.
