Speedrunning TMPs3
08/05/13 at 12:38:31

Am I the only one that will try to go back to story mode levels and try to beat the best scores?

I currently have a Normal difficulty story mode completion time of 56 minutes, and I am ranked 68th on the leaderboards for fastest overall completion time (and at least the top 10 people are hacks, so lets say 58th lol). I plan on speed running Hard difficulty soonish, and I will probably never touch Twisted difficulty again outside of Challenge mode.

How about you guys? What are your best times/rankings on particular levels?

On Co-Op, I think I speedrunned pretty quick.  Not quite sure on the exact times, but I'm pretty sure it was near an hour, since we got golds on each level/boss really easily.

Yeah, I think if I got a friend who was good at this game to play with me I could probably knock my time down to 40 minutes or lower.

The person I played with wasn't even a very good player, but as long as they know how to shoot missiles and fire machine guns while being somewhat accurate, you're fine.

I think the cars we used were Death Warrant and Roadboat, with myself being Crimson while my step bro was Death Warrant taking out cars behind me on races so I could get to the finish easier.

For the final boss, we both used Outlaw, because anyone else would lose armor quick, but I bet if we used Death Warrant we may have shaved off possible another 5 minutes.

This gives me a reason to pop the game back into my PS3, haven't played much lately so this should be nice haha I never thought of speedrunning in this game but now is a good time, I guess. Rank up in the leaderboards and whatnot. This is probably the only game I'll have a chance in. Not like I can get anywhere near 1st in Black Ops II  Tongue

I choose Reaper for most missions. I have gotten a 6 minute run on the final boss with Reaper due to how ridiculous the flamesaw is. But for some missions, such as the Fight For Your Life mission, Juggernaut is the better choice. The enemies are so damn aggressive in the FFYL and Endurance missions that you can just drive around in circles with your special mines armed and people will basically kill themselves. Your rams will do roughly 60 damage each run, and you special will do a good 40 damage to whoever gets hit, so you can finish the FFYL mission in 3:30 if you get lucky. As for endurance, it all depends on the map. For Black Rock I prefer Reaper since the level layout favors everyone BUT Juggs, but for anything on Metro, Carnival or for the LA Rooftop level I recommend Juggs. I wish that insta-death was on for the Rooftop level, because with how ridiculous the knockback on rams is with Juggs you could probably win in less than a minute Cheesy

Alright, I finally got my blu ray drive repaired for my PS3, and I still need to do my Twisted playthrough and I will most likely use Jugg.  I can post the times if ya want?

I never had much interest in attempting leaderboard records for the majority of the single player events, primarily because luck is a very heavy factor in terms of the AI's energy consumption and inconsistent behaviors, aside from obvious cheap tactics that can totally screw up a good time. Combine that with the fact that the infinite weapons glitch exists, and it makes it pretty pointless to try to get a legitimate time.

However, I have been planning on doing a single segment speedrun on Twisted Metal, on twisted difficulty, since it hasn't really been done before. It'll essentially be a run to complete the game from start to finish without restarting any events, and will include things like menu and load times. I've also been considering not using the garage for it since I find twisted difficulty too easy in the story mode due to the 2.5x health buffer. I did a few practice streams of it at the beginning of the year, but I had no strategy going into it, so I've got to figure out a few things like the paths of the Juggs, and map out the altered pickup locations in the cage and boss events.

Also, I have, and am planning to continue improving my times in the two events that require pure skill, and can't really be exploited with the weapons glitch, being the Diablo and Diesel races (the Sunsrpings race is void due to the deathmatch, and the fact that you time depends on the AI finishing quickly to start the next sequence). I have a couple videos, which I assume to be the current world records due to the times ahead of them being unrealistic to achieve legitimately, but I'm hoping to upload footage of better times inthe near future seeing that I have a proper game capture device now.

You can just do all those events with Juggernaut. Not counting race and bosses, of course.

Quite frankly, a blind monkey can beat twisted difficulty with either Juggernaut or Talon since they're so overpowered. My goal will be to beat the entire story, without a single death, still obtaining every gold medal in a continuous playthrough, likely with Death Warrant for most (if not every) event. I might make multiple playthroughs with different vehicles if it goes over well.

And regarding the infinite weapon glitch, yes, it exists, and I believe it can be used in any offline mode. Though it has been patched, and could never be used in online matches, it can still be used in unpatched offline, and I'm pretty certain that records attained without the patch can still be posted publicly after the patch is installed (can't confirm though, since I've never exploited it).

Mean/Dual Juggernauts is a bitch, though.  I've either been stuck on it, or just beat it after at least 30 or so tries.  It's pretty insane.  With Talon and Jugg, it's still nearly impossible on Twisted difficulty.  The rest of the events, though, really aren't too tedious.  Even Iron Maiden was simple.  Got a silver medal and missing gold by maybe 30 seconds on first try on Twisted.

The infinite weapons glitch seems helpful if you really struggle, but if you are at least somewhat decent, you shouldn't have too much trouble on Twisted other than maybe a level or two.

Mean Juggs is arguably the most difficult event due to the lack of health, but it isn't that bad with adequate map knowledge, and a good weapons route before taking on the Juggs. Since it's a small battleground with plenty of mega gun, stalker, and power missile pick-ups, it's not very difficult to eliminate both Juggs with them spawning only one enemy altogether, and they aren't that dangerous provided you stay wary of their mines, which they'll constantly abuse. As a matter of fact, the lightweight and supposedly underpowered vehicles excel in this event due to being able to navigate the environment quickly, and unleash all of those weapons on the Juggs.
