Simple yet affective character swap hack. I love doing that to games with unplayable bosses...

I'm a modder to and I've been there.

You just search out one value in a sea of millions of calues by process of elimination.

The specials of some of the TML cars doesn't show up, but can still do damage, when you're using them in the Head On stages, for an obvious reason. They weren't meant to be in Head On. Manslaughter's rocks are invisible and so is Gold Tooth's missiles and Junkyard Dog's reticle. Crazy 8's special shows up, probably because it looks the same as Outlaw's.

Glad to see it worked Smiley. I really didn't expect the type of mastercode I developed would work on any kind of Action Replay/GameShark device. Long ago I used to use a GameShark 2 and never had any luck with those types of mastercodes (ones starting with a 9 in unencrypted form). Wasn't sure if Datel/Interac had improved their mastercode support in subsequent versions of their cheat devices...

In TMHOETE, TMHO allows up to 5 bots per level, and TML supports up to 7 (quite a bit less than TMHC's 11...). But when I was developing the codes, I noticed what looked like an 8th bot car ID slot, and figured there'd be value in including it (came close to omitting it though). If a hack is developed one day to make it possible to force up to 8 bot cars, the ability to force-select the 8th car's ID could come in handy.

wait what? tm:hc can support 11 bots?wow..that would have been awesome to play.and did you know some of the vehicles from head on were supposed to be in tm:hc?well that explains why it is11.manslaughter,crazy8,spectre,axel,junkyard dog, sweet tooth, gold tooth,12-pac,outlaw,hammerhaed,mr.slam,warthog,darktooth,outlaw2,thumper,tower tooth, minion and other two unnamed cars(some of it i saw from a video, some of it i assume its from hc by concept art and by th design).like this picture of darktooth(http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120526203426/twistedmetal/images/3/31/DarkT... has a simillar apperence to head on but with a more dark, realistic design.and in the background it looks simmilar to some of the hc concept art.

Since someone else resurrected this old topic I would like to add something else: in TM Lost you can use the freeze with Triangle+up, the shield with Triangle+right, the other advanced attacks are with the other directionals. I don't know if by this time you guys already know that. Btw i'm new here.

I'm over a year late in replying, but figured I might as well follow-up on some things since this thread was recently bumped.

Luis wrote on 08/16/13 at 00:42:08:
The codes are working, just to let you know. I made full run throughs with some of the TML cars. Is there a way to fight the CPU version of Tower Tooth in any stage? I wanted to fight both Dark Tooth and Tower Tooth in Big Blue Stadium, but then I remember the code gives you the weaker playable version, where his hitbox doesn't switch to the head on top.

Only one instance of the "stage 1" Tower Tooth bot can be loaded in via these hacks, and multiple Tower Tooth bots can't be in-game at the same time. My guess is that it's due to the game having never been designed with the intent of managing multiple instances of Tower Tooth's AI at once.

Regarding the "stage 2" Tower Tooth (the more powerful one whose head at the top of the tower needs to be targetted), when I first saw your post I tried looking into creating a hack for it. I compared changes in PCSX2 RAM when battling against the stage 1 and stage 2 versions in TMHO story mode, but didn't have any luck. I did somehow manage to trigger an invincible burning headless Tower Tooth bot that drove erratically, but couldn't reliably reproduce it. It'd make for a fun video if I manage to get it working again someday Cheesy...

Anyways, unlike some of Incognito's other PS2 games, TMHOETE's ELF (executable) file doesn't contain function nor variable labels. Since there's no context to how the game works, it's a huge pain to create hacks like these ones. As a result, it's highly unlikely that the Tower Tooth 1 bot limit will be overcome in the future. As for a stage 2 Tower Tooth hack, the odds of that aren't much better Sad.

Thanks, and welcome to the forum Smiley! Awhile back I had subsequently found out about it by checking the games' controls in their options menus, but never got around to clarifying that I had.

It never dawned on me to check my manual Embarrassed. Kind of surprising to see how significantly each game's advanced control mechanics differed. I remember all the way back when I first got TMHOETE in early 2008. Even then I couldn't rear fire for the life of me (despite being familiar with the PSP version's and TMB's controls). I had also wondered for the longest time why AA moves had been removed from TML. Feels kind of funny realizing that all of it was in fact possible all these years later...

So an Action Replay will work for this? I'm about to screw around and see what I can do.

Yes it does work. You just need to find the right code that works. If one doesn't work, try again until it gives you one that works. I did this with all the TMB cars which was annoying to do and I don't feel like doing that again with the Head On cars.

Seems like lots of people around here use Action Replay MAX  Cheesy...

Just as a backgrounder, the codes I created and provided in reply #2 are "raw" ones. When anyone develops these kinds of codes, they start out with "raw" ones.

Back in the PS2's heyday, several companies (Datel, Interac, Mad Catz, Pelican, etc) competed against each other with their own cheat devices. Usually these devices came preloaded with tons of codes for many games, and the companies selling them would usually publish codes for newer games shortly after they came out.

In the name of competition, none of these companies wanted anyone to be able to use "their" codes with a competitor's cheat device... So instead of just supporting "raw" codes, most of the companies decided to design their cheat devices to only work with encrypted codes (which are just scrambled "raw" codes). Having said that, latter versions of CodeBreaker can support "raw" codes as-is. Homebrew cheat software like PS2RD also support them.

Overtime, it seems that some skilled hackers figured out how to reverse engineer all of these companies' encryption formats, to allow people to convert encrypted codes back into "raw" ones, convert each other's cheat device codes to formats supported by other devices, etc. Omniconvert seems to be the best "all in one" converter application for all these formats.

Unfortunately I don't have particular device, so I might not be in the best position to provide support... but I'll try anyway Smiley.

In AR MAX, create a new game entry for "Twisted Metal: Head On". If it asks you for a game ID, enter 1666.

Afterwards, enter this code:
Code:
(M) Code
137D-83XN-3JY02
D9UR-22XB-4GBFX
8YJ0-75ZJ-3MDYJ
ZP06-GX3W-92TTP

Here's a quick guide on how to convert reply #2's codes to AR max's format via Omniconvert:
  1. Launch Omniconvert.
  2. Go to "Input -> Unencrypted -> Standard".
  3. Go to "Output -> Action Replay -> MAX".
  4. Copy/pate the codes you want to use into the left text field.
  5. Replace "XX" at the end of the codes with the ID of the car you want. Get your IDs from the "Car ID (HEX)" table column in reply #2. For example, to make player 2's car Tower Tooth, the code you start out with would be 202F4AC4 00000076.
  6. Click the "Convert" button.
  7. Enter the codes that appeared in the right text field into AR MAX.

Good luck Smiley!

The company that sells a cheat device that lets you add new codes should be the winner. The ones that don't are useless if you only brought it to add the codes that it doesn't have. The Datel disc for the Wii, which is suppose to be a Gamecube action replay to be used on the Wii, doesn't let you add new codes so you got no choice but to buy the old Gamecube version. You'll also need the Gamecube itself.

Yeah I had Game Shark for the PS2, but the disc ended up getting scratched so bad it refuses to load up. My AR Max however survived my childhood abuse, so anything cheat related has to be done with that.
So I think tonight I'll boot up the old PS2 and see if I can get this working for AR Max. So what I have to do is convert the codes provided to the AR Max encrypted codes?
I believe it should be simple enough, so once I get it working I'll upload some pictures for something, albeit they won't be from a capture device haha.
