Why You Should Play Nuke
05/14/13 at 01:00:17

- It's an actual e-sport that requires teamwork.
- Defense matters.
- Small cars are a real threat for once.
- Talon and Juggernaut seem to fit the idea of this mode much better than they do with TDM.
- It's the best way to master full maps.

Sure, the mode has its flaws, but so do the others, I just like actual teamwork so I think Nuke is pretty cool.

I have a game open at the moment but nobody is joining, and it's a mode that is better with more people, so it's unfortunate.
If you want to support the cause just reply, we can schedule future Nuke games here.

I never used to care for Nuke, but now I love it. Partly because I'm a little bored of TDM/DM, and partly just because I'm curious. There is a lot of potential in this mode. Sadly it's just not very balanced with only 3 players per team, you need 4+ each team then you get a proper balanced match. Otherwise it's just nonsense with the fast cars dominating and launching missiles super fast, and good teams always have a Talon with too many lives that just shoots down the nuke anyway.

I really don't understand why fast cars launch the nuke so fast and medium/slow cars take forever, it just makes no sense. All cars should have the same launch timer imo. Reaper can almost shield the whole entire launch timer, it's pretty rediculous. Other than that, Nuke rules. Just need more players per team so it's more balanced.

I've always loved Nuke, loved the idea and the things you can and you should do in it.
Another thing that is great about Nuke is that it can give you the most XP in no time and you don't have to work too hard to nail it, which is good for beginners who just want to unlock everything.

and Mosh, how does Talon seem to fit in Nuke? I personally think it just kills the match if the Talon player is good, he can just camp and bring down all missiles with a bit of defense from his teammates, exactly like what Mortimer said.

And Mortimer, there is a weird balance in there, it's not all about the size of the car and its health, it's something about the abilities and stuff, Axel, for example, is weaker than RK and DW but takes more time behind a launcher, DW has more armor than RK and has the same launch time. Warthog, is a heavy armored vehicle but his launch time is perfect compared to other big vehicles. It's just a weird balance of the game.

I'm having my finals this month so I'll be rarely online, but when i am I'll try and join you guys if you have a room up, and if you organize a match I'll do my best to be there, hopefully I'll be able to join.

I've always believed that nuke was the most tactical and team-based mode in this game.  Having to play defense and offense forces the team to organize themselves mid-inning, giving fair chance to different types of players.  Unlike TDM where going rogue is not as hard, role organization is key or everything falls apart.

As with Talon, I agree partially with Mosh on this one.  If each team has one Talon I think it works perfectly for this mode.  If abused (more than one), it just becomes impossible if the players are good, which ends up making it really unbalanced.

I wouldn't mind playing some nuke during the week if scheduled.  If you guys have days you play certain modes post-em, maybe we can all help get organized with play times.   Wink

A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out."

On the topic of Talon in Nuke, there are some points to consider.
-Talon is actually limited, just not many people realize this. Not sure the exact number, but it's something like 7 or 8 Talons per team, so if your team puts the effort in eliminating Talon there shouldn't be much of a problem.
-Talon exists to counter the problem of quick launching vehicles that use sneaky paths to the Statue (like using the hills in Sunsprings or the draw-bridge path in Metro). Being able to shoot down the nuke is very important, so it bothers me to see Nuke unranked rooms without Talon and mostly fast cars (KK/Reaper/CF) because then it becomes near impossible to shoot down nukes and gives small cars too much of an advantage (unless the host only uses the mobile launcher/or just 1 launcher).
-Even if the Talon player is good and hard to kill it is still possible to hit the statue if you can launch a missile near it - or w/ enough teamwork Talon can get killed during or close to the nuke missile's launch and then can't shoot down the missile because of the 10 second respawn rule.
-Talon launches very slow and is useless in offense against a good team.
-Talon's magnet seems made for the mode - being able to grab people before they can launch, & being able to carry a teammate to a far off leader/launcher location.

I understand Talon can be frustrating and sneaky, but I think it's dead wrong to think Talon wasn't meant for Nuke.

Ideally though, I do think Nuke would be more fun if more people used more medium and heavy armored cars, as people do tend to stick with the fast launching small cars too much.
