Twisted Metal 1 PC
02/16/13 at 22:56:11

Where can I download it?  Getting a hard copy is near impossible, and I am dying to get it...I own every game except Small Brawl, and even own Head On on both PS2 and PSP.  I kinda feel like I need this for PC to finish my collection...lol.  But seriously, TM1 is an amazing game, it would be fantastic if I could play with updated graphics.  I guess the game was also up for download on this site at one time...but I can't find where at.  Thanks in advance guys!

Also, yea, I'm a newbie.  I'll be posting here more though!

Just as a heads up.

if the rom is still available thats all great and nice but pls guys don't ask me for help getting it running.

I'm not tech savvy on this.

I was also selling copies some time ago purely to avoid an influx of peeps pm'ing me requests for info on a free game they'd just downloaded.

I find that charging for the privilege reduces that somewhat...

If you record a video of yourself chugging a gallon of expired milk then cutting your face with a razor blade i'll give you half of the instructions. Mail me $50 and you get the other half.

Just kidding. I'm pretty sure it needs Windows 95 to correctly run. Windows 98 might work too. I'm not sure if compatibility mode in Windows 7 works however. Probably not.

I think we only got it to work on XP and earlier. Compatibility mode doesn't work and it wouldn't work in an XP VM.

I'm pretty sure i just ran it off a win 98 or win 95 Virtual Machine. If you avoid Windows 2000, Vista, and 7 it should run i'm guessing.

I imagine it won't run on DOS. But has anyone tried that yet? If i remember it's just a straight up windows program so that probably isn't an option.

To be honest there isn't any real point in playing it anyways. No amount of knowledge or fun you could get out of it would come close to being worth your time spent getting it to work. Go buy a test PS2 and get Harbor City then your collection is complete.

But only i possess the Twisted Metal Tiger Handheld. The crown jewel of Twisted Metal on the ultimate gaming platform. It's shaped like a gun with a TV screen. I wish all my gun sights were TV screens so i could watch Shrek 2 while shooting land ducks or whatever those things are in my backyard.

I've got it to run on 2 computers running on Windows XP. Basically after you mount the image you go to the virtual drive, right click & open, find the twisted.exe file, right click and go to properties, you'll see 'Compatibility Mode'. Change that to Windows 95 and it should work. If it doesn't, set it to another like Windows 98, see if that works.

I drink expired milk.  Setting up a camera shouldn't be too hard.  The money though...I can't do that.

Jokes aside, my only problem is the "No CDROM" error.  Twisted Metal 2 works fine, and I am pretty sure that is about the same as TM1 with the compatibility issues.

Also, I tried DOSBox a couple days ago, and it wouldn't run because it is indeed a Windows 95 executable.

Would a virtual drive work?  I feel like it would.  I also tried setting the compatibility mode on Win95 and Win98, but still nothing.  I'll get back to you guys if the Virtual Drive works.

@Hellbent, Twisted Metal Tiger Handheld?  What in the hell is that? lol

What type of file is the TM1 file - is it a .bin & .cue file? If yes, then you need a virtual drive, so get software (example. 'Gizmo') to mount the .bin file to a virtual drive, and then open that to get the game files, change the compatibility in the properties of the .exe file, and then play the game.

I never tried running the game on anything past XP but it's unlikely it will work on Windows 7.

And Tiger Electronics made LCD games in the 90s. They were shitty portable games that would cost about 10 dollars and need 2 AA batteries to run. A lot of LCD electronic games are worth about 30 dollars on ebay nowadays if it is based on a popular franchise (amazing how worthless shit can be worth anything). The Twisted Metal one might be worth more since it's rare. Here's a commercial of a couple tiger games just for a laugh;
btw, Hellbent, you should really make a youtube review of tiger's TM. There's nothing on the net about it.

Oh really? Well i guess i can. There isn't much to say. Tooth drives down a highway and you avoid stuff and fire missiles at other stuff. It runs at about 3 frames per second and you have 3 lanes. It's essentially on a tic tac toe grid. It's not even as fun as just pretending to play Twisted Metal. Even in 1990 we knew those things were bullshit for morons.

I got it off Ebay from an old lady for 5 bucks. This came out after the Gameboy Color so this was probably one of the last real LCD Tiger games made before they stopped producing these things. I can't imagine they made a whole lot of them because it's a fucking Tiger Handheld in 1995. Even back then it would have been horribly out of date. You could get a regular Gameboy for 25 bucks at the time.

It's kind of weird in that sense. It's like finding a real published cassette of Skrillix or some shit. There is a generational gap in the technology that makes you wonder how they even got something like that a green light.

...there are neither .bin or .cue files.  There are also two .exe's, one that launches a menu with Play, Install, Uninstall, etc., and the install button does nothing, but then there is the .exe that boots the game right up, that gives me the No CD ROM error.  There is an icon file that is an .ICO, if that is what you are looking for...

No doubt that Tiger handheld is some weird shit...what does Sweet Tooth even look like?  I can't even imagine him on a colorless LCD game...

EDIT: I can't imagine Sweet Tooth as colorless.*   Tongue
