TMX small vehicles
02/12/13 at 17:55:02

I'm playing TMX again and I couldn't help but notice how low I scored. It certainly didn't feel like I did bad. The truth is I didn't. My lack of points was due to having to run away/avoided heavy damage/one hit kills/gurney spams. I should also mention that EVERYONE (besides me) was using heavy slow vehicles with heavy specials. Ok so since I'm a fast vehicle I can easily run away, np, but that's were my point comes in. While running to recover my incredibly weak and co-dependent health (I'm using DW btw. Not even the lowest of health cars) I lose out on the battles and thus my net damage.

Small cars almost have no place in TMX. In case anyone says  "you just need to be as good as andyfrench" well then I ask "is that the way the developers really wanted it?" For small cars to be driving around the outskirts and hiding everywhere? Even though this means missing out on points? If the small cars had 2 shields that wouldn't save us by any means, but it would give us 2 feet to stand on instead of 1. It wouldn't be OP whatsoever and would change little. More people might start using small cars. Would just being able to compete be considered OP?

When I play in these rooms and everyone is using junkyard, meat wagon, shadow, juggernaut, and playing in small confined, nowhere to hide or run maps, It's so fucking discouraging, and I rarely stay in the room. I mean, why would I? To just get raped? No thank you. I like using my vehicle of choice, but I guess I have to use a big vehicle to play TMX online competitively.

By "not staying in the room" I mean that I don't stay in the lobby after the game. I always stay and complete the game I join

I don't want to start trouble, but it really hit me in the face after not playing for a month and coming back. The absence of small vehicles and a real shitty score for what I thought was a good played game that couldn't of been played any better.

No offense man, but seriously, it's all about you.

I'm not any better than you, and your DW is probably much better than my RK, but what I'm saying is that each vehicle has a chance you just gotta know how to use it correctly.

Specially DW, it's the highest armor of the "small" vehicles, I've seen people owning big vehicles with DW, you just gotta develop a tactic, and Hit 'n' Run like a pro.

There's nothing wrong in hitting and running, it's the point of these small vehicles, you just gotta do it the best way you can.

ESP did their best to make all cars balanced, so there has to be a way.

And I get that you were playing DM? get out of it, never play it again, you'll hate TMX more and more, trust me.

TDM, TLMS, Hunted and Team Hunted. These are probably the best modes to show what TMX is made of, and Nuke too when played correctly with good players.

Cheers. (:

That's a load of bullshit.  One of the fundamental problems with TMX is that the advantage of a small car is speed, but due to the insane homing ability of a large percentage of the weapons, the speed factor is pointless.

Therefore they can't hang out in a dogfight or they just get toasted.

I don't think there is a solution for you Skywalker, other than pick a big car or play TLMS.  At least in TLMS hiding is somewhat rewarded.

Yeah, it's not that the low armored vehicles are bad. They are actually very good. They hold up in Team modes especially, and hold up in a 1v1, but in deathmatch it's extremely difficult to win with a low armor vehicle even if you're playing well simply because so many people just play to win and use big dogs as a crutch and because the rules of ranked matches are dumb. You'll see players who exclusively use the likes of Junkyard Dog, Darkside, Shadow in DM because they can become near unstoppable in a DM room, especially if there are new players in the room, because the newbs get targetted by those players. Those players are often more likely to go on health runs and grab the health truck. I don't think the Ranked rules were thought out well in TMX, a lot of imbalances are due to it. I don't think the health truck should be there at all. It's not fair to small cars who get easily killed crashing into the HT (health truck) and not fair when a would-be-kill gets the HT when you're using a small car.  What's even more obnoxious are these players who abuse big dogs, pick on noobs, and hog health end up bragging about it in chat as if that took any skill at all. Because of players like that, less and less people are comfortable playing ranked w/ a low armored vehicle even though there's absolutely nothing wrong with Crimson, Kamikaze, and such, as long as you can handle speed over strength.

Weapons can be dodged when you practice.

And you can always hide behind something or someone.

and just like how they can use homing missile on you, you can use power easily on them, and fully charged swarmers, and you can line up a rico easily on them.

Pick up the heavy weapons and use them well, the end.

Seriously no lie, I was doing all of that. I was pleased to see my power missiles hitting (didn't really make a dent) but that's why I'm surprised to see the game telling me I suck. I thought I did good??

I didn't notice while playing but afterwards It was clearly unfair that all these big vehicles more or less stood still brawling throwing specials at each other and accumulated 5-6x more damage than me, but also 5-6x more points. Meanwhile I'm driving, dodging, collecting weapons, using weapons, hitting, running, grabbing health. It absolutely made no difference I only died twice while everyone died 10-15 times.

It's fine though it's my first games in weeks so I just need to become god like to be on the same level with my small car as the noobs with big cars

Oh yeah I also notice you do get 2 shields. I wasn't counting at the moment. I just know I needed more. So I make that 3.

Unfortunately, I was playing DM. My favorite mode because it's classic. I can do TDM though. When the teams are EVEN, it can be fun. I don't know why but I always get put on the outnumbered team or people leave because I'm fighting insanely and come to find out it's 8 vs 3.

How about letting them fight each other and kill the one with low health?

That would work if they gave you the points as well as the kill. In my opinion I think the kill should go to whoever did the most damage, regardless of who fired the last shot.

I just wanted to clarify the reason for this thread. It's not about my skill or crying about a low score. It's about the absence of small vehicles online. Which was so obvious to me after not playing for a month. Like a smack in the face. All the proof you need is to jump online and the first full game you enter I guarantee will be 12-13 heavy vehicles, and 1-2 small vehicles, give or take.

I really like what you said here, Doom. What I've witnessed vindicates this I think. Each vehicle can counterbalance the other when energy stats, physical properties & capabilities are analyzed. Well said.

I've seen people dominate with ALL vehicles. There is no question as I, myself have been amazed at the skill some of you have.

I don't even count Death Warrant or Roadkill as small vehicles. Roadkill has a 45 damage dash ram and Death Warrant has practically unlimited specials, good speed, and average armor. Both are fast enough to use the terrain to evade attacks in addition to out turning heavier vehicles up close.

One thing that i found worked in Deathmatch as Kamekazi is to memorize the Mega Gun, Shotgun, and Power Missile pickups. Then focus on gathering up enough of an arsenal to take out a vehicle in a couple of shots. Taking advantage of your secondary AOE freeze and standard freeze makes it easier to land point blanks and power missiles without the enemy retaliating. It's especially effective when you sneak attack 2 players fighting with an AOE freeze, take out one, then retreat or use your AA freeze on the other guy and pop him with a power.

It only works on specific maps like Downtown Doom where you have the 3 story buildings and lots of pickups. Smaller levels like Skid Row are heavily biased to larger vehicles. Much like in TM2 how vehicles like Warthog could survive Suicide Swamp due to the build of the car simply being great for the arena.

Another thing i like to do is gather some gas cans and play opossum like i have no weapons. Then once an overzealous player chases me i rear fire the gascans aiming by radar. Since bullseyes are worth 50 damage now it's a very effective strategy for punishing missile users at short to medium range. Plus since you are aiming by radar you can see exactly where your enemy projectiles are. So it makes it evade or block via terrain or shielding way easier then playing by instinct.

I think the fast cars would be used better if more players had a better grasp of which vehicles are best for which levels. Most players tend to just pick their favorite or something different.

In every TM game the effectiveness of each vehicle is dependent on the the level select, team, and player. Most people just go by the last two. I think that is partially why people can't quite handle Talon. They don't think about terrain or common player patterns in levels. Hell they probably haven't even memorized the important pickup locations or escape routes.
