My few quick comments because I've already added my experiences in other threads, but there are still some that are worth repeating.

I think the SCEA guys were the [FAHQ] clan right?  Pretty sure there was a Capt[FAHQ] or something that literally destroyed my TMBO life like no other.  I like to think at my heyday I could at least compete with the best if not beat them here and there.  I was always within 100 or so points on net damage with SoC on movies, I could split games with some of the other top guys at the time, and I often won my share of ffa games.  Capt literally steamrolled me to the point where I wanted to quit out (which I've never done from what I can remember).

Anyways, outside of a few games in the beginning of my days I had one match that really stood out and hopefully he remembers it.  I played Kilrahi when he was on the more abrasive side of TMA I guess you'd say.  It was after the chat code and we did some 1v1s.  During that time I was running Brimstone in pretty much every 1v1 game, it was only in ffas that I felt comfortable enough to branch out.  He played Roadkill and we ended up doing a best of 5 series (not intentional at first) on mini Suburbs doing net damage.  He beats me the first 2 games, which I think are close (I can't remember exactly) but we chat after each one and all is well and we keep playing.  I end up winning the 3rd match and we go to chat and the mood changes.  He says gg I guess I'll talk to you later.  All I want to do is play again, so I ask whats up can he not play anymore?  Kilrahi seems genuinely surprised and goes "oh, I figured you'd leave and tell everyone you beat me" or something along those lines lol.  I was happy, and I think he was too, to play again since it had been close games and I managed to win the 4th round too!  We decided we'd play one more and make it a best of 5 series.  Fucking Roadkill, I always had problems with him at that time and Kilrahi won.  I can't remember if it was a late special that won it, or if I just picture it that way in my head after all these years, but it was a great series and truly my most favorite 1v1 experience in the game.

I'd like to think we've been friends since then (despite my random arguments with him and his brother) and I'd gladly play any game with him if given the opportunity.

There was something special about TMBO in my life that I don't think will ever be duplicated.  Maybe it was my age at the time, what was going on in my life, the state of online gaming, who knows but god damn it really was the golden age of gaming for me and fuck it was god damn wonderful!!!!

by the way, I got my network adapter and literally overnighted my voucher lol.  Didn't actually get my disc until I got to talk to Kirk Baum when he posted on here, and that week I finally got it.

Reminds me of one of the first matches I had ever played on TMBO with TreAtz... it was in dogpound, 1v1 and MS Vs MS.
I remember the match being pretty important to me at the time, because I considered him to be the best with MS back in those days and well, MS being the only vehicle I used at the time... I had to defeat him. We were battling it out for a few minutes, then I noticed he wasn't moving. I waited a bit and then he came back and we resumed playing. I forget who won that match, but I do remember he posted about it on TMA. He said I was one of the most honorable people he ever played with, because most people would of just killed him while he was idle and had been done with it. If I remember correctly, the reason for him having to sit for a few minutes was the fact his girlfriend forgot her keys or something and he had to answer the door for her.

As for the Kilrahi and Stitches "hate" on TMA back in those days... quite a bit of us had problems with the brothers. I'd like to say I'm proud to be #1 on their hate list, but things have changed or at least they have between Kilrahi and I. Stitches on the other hand, man did I do some horrible things to the guy, all of it I regret. It's quite amazing the dumb shit you do when you're a teen, especially when you want to be #1 and you hate to lose. Some of it they both deserved though, I mean, I always felt the two talked down to everyone in TMBO chat, and for some reason I was one of the only few that would even dare mention it... then the hate would flow towards me later that night for having spoken bad about the two in public, lol.

I think in the end it's safe to say... most, if not all of us have grown up and perhaps now we all realize even more, just how much fun we had playing TMBO. From protect the king/queen, 50 life LMS, the FFA best of the best matches and to the new memories we continue to create to this very day, not one of us will ever forget the years of great enjoyment TMBO has provided and continues to provide for us.

Blasphemy! You left out Soltakr, B4D K4RM4, In Flames, Hellbent, Run5K, Blasting Cap, HATEMACHINE.

Also I would add EvilEd, Son of Calyso, SynthR, ROADIE, Maartyrr, Finger of God, and myself to the "best of the best" group! To be fair Tongue

Can anyone remember the screen names of the Incog guys?

Boredom, Stupidity, Suffocation, Nathan - Incog
Getowned, capt, inblood, whatupdog, evil1 - fahq

Doofyjoo was an alias that eakius and i created to troll the servers, and we ran into stitches that night - we played several 1vs1.

Ah yes . . . those early 2002 - 2003 matches were always fun.

Yes, FAH-Q were SCEA testers and for the first six months of the server life they were top dogs.

I do remember those one on ones.  They were a blast, and yes, good times since then.  It's too bad we both couldn't sink our teeth in the new game as it would have been fun.  You're always welcome back on Kai though.

Hold on . . .wha . . .WTF?

Damn it to hell Dark, why what are you trying to say there? It's like I shared Thanksgiving dinner with you and then you walked up and pissed in my taters!    Angry

If anything throughout TMBO's history it was far more you and me against the world rather than you and the world against me.

I always saw the conflict as pretty specific.  As dumb as it sounds, it was easy to draw a line in the sand and say it was TCT/>< vs. INV.  Those are pretty big groups of people.  Then of course there was the constant TMB vs TM2 arguments which were fun.

Most of INV left in 2003, and those who remained played just fine with us.  By 2007, FOUR years later, all of that old crap had long ended and no longer felt relevant to any of us on the server.

You, by the way, were never "#1" on my hate list.  Just an FYI there.

Anyway, I just look back on it all as good fun.

Well I think most left in 2004 (thats when i did anyways)

And leaving that soon left me with a hunger to return... tried to get onto the euro server and could not get that code breaker shit to work.

So when maartyrr asked me to try xlink kai and we had seen videos showing people playing it with 5 players (obviously the program had improved over years)... I KNEW WHAT HAD TO BE DONE. Get the party kicked into overdrive.

Yeah you're right.  I always think of TMBO in terms of "years" but I forget that 2002 wasn't even a full year.  So you essentially get:

Sept 2002 - 2003  Year One
Sept 2003 - 2004  Year two

Jan 2004 - April 2004 was all of the major clan fighting.

About half of the major players seemed to leave during the late May/early June summer season of 2004.

Come on Kilrahi, my reply wasn't meant to make it seem as if you two were like the most hated ever on the TMBO servers. It was fun and still is fun working with you to defeat our enemies. If I'm not mistaken, Roadie used to be apart of that INV clan we hated. Once INV always INV, KILL KILL KILL!

Not #1 on your hate list, wtf? What person from the TMBO past gets that honor?

And yes, I do remember the good things you guys did, like you guys allowing me into TCT and training me, teaching me how to dodge multiple homing missiles, dodge reticles and other various weapons. Let's also not forget the "Loop Freeze" (Roadie HATES it!) You two also get credit for breaking me out of my singular vehicle shell, as I was no longer confined to only using MS, both you and your brother did that. TCT may be dead, but TMBO sure isn't!

I dont remember dates or years however I'll go over my memories as best as possible.

I first remember getting my copy of TMB when I was a kid, I worked all summer to pay for my PS3 and copy of TMB. I ended up getting close to my goal by mowing lawns and taking weeds out of the front yard. Almost got attacked by a dog in a process too. Anyways I made close to enough money and my grandmother paid the rest for my birthday. I remember still beating the game with Darkside first and remember how much in awe I was in when I first played Snowy Roads. The music in the background with the snow falling in your face was simply amazing. Then watching the end video after killing Warhawk, made me mesmerized and I was hooked.

Sooner or later I had to talk my family into getting DSL and moving from AOL. I played many games before on TM2pc with the TMA crew so this wasn't my first TM online experience but this was the most exciting. I simply would NOT play the 1v1 rooms because I was so damn tired of dial up. I do recall playing Magnum a few times because I heard he was a good 1v1 player but I think that was it. All I remember to be honest is his games were always desperately open to get some TM action LOL so no match details.

I was mostly a random guy with a TMA tag for the longest time and as soon as wearing that died off in the community because everyone was TMA by the, I dropped it and didn't wear a tag. For awhile I didnt want to join a clan but after missing out for almost a year I decided to join A9. >< was bugging me to join for awhile but they weren't TMAers first so I went with A9. I had a lot of fun with the group but at first it was a little weird because Rabid was always hated on BoTW and had my prejudgments on him. However he was a cool ass dude and though I never got close to anyone (I always kept my distance socially other than TM talk from people for the most part on TMA, especially TMBO) I always was glad I did join.

Clans were just a tag to me though and a way to have some nice competitive games in. We were never the best clan, even after we joined together to become INV with Son of Calypso (where the hell is this guy? Last I heard he played TMHO on PSP then vanished). We were very disorganized and I think that is why we always came second to ><. I never liked the bouts between them versus clans because INV always had to complain even though we were out matched lol.. then when we allowed "juice" in match, like C8, we would just get raped even worse. After that INV sort of just died and it was pretty sad. I miss the those times because SoC the rest of our clan was pretty darn good and wish we were more organized.

After INV I didnt join any other clans, especially after >TCT< pretty much killed the idea of a clans because everyone was in the same clan haha. So I just dropped the idea all together but definitely stayed around because these were the best matches by far every night when I played.

I remember too before I played any other clans, everyone had a hateship against >< and I remember being one of the few guys to start bridging the gap with the ><ers. The community was split at one time and >< would make their own games passworded. I enjoyed playing with these guys and I was glad I was able to bridge them over to play with the rest of the crew. I know that it was probably more of curiosity probably but I'm glad that the gap was getting closed by then because we were a small community.

Besides the clan matches Protect the King and the day long Endurance Matches were far by the most memorable. Relics were always a forbidden no-no for us because we tried to control everything in the game. And relics were obviously too busted. However with PTK we now had our own game. I had a lot of fun playing this mode because we finally had something to break the tension while still being at a competitive level. I love rules and I like regulation and the first PTK matches were the best when we had our set of vehicles. My favorite had to be a Defender, I liked being the Manslaughter and Darkside just following the juiced but fragile King. It was changed later to allow more vehicles but it was never the same afterwards but I loved this mode any played any time I had a chance to play it.

What I miss most are the people from TMBO because most of them dont play TMX. I hate having a split community on TMA. Most people don't play TM anymore and while BoTW is what drives the community, it definitely has fallen because we rarely get new people here that really contribute or stay more than a few months. This is because TM is just a phase or game they're playing, not like us that love the game and are fans.

I also would play TMBO but I kind of wanted to just hang up my boots on it, same with TM2pc. Maybe one day once TMX is off the servers I'll fire up a PS2 but I want to support TMX so we can have future TM games. I want to show even though the game is not perfect, far from it, nor even the best (hail TMBO imho) I enjoy the community because there are still more of a community from this game than we ever had in any game. Even though I don't talk with any of them or made any buddies by any means other than playing with Mort and Mosh (who are always on) I know TM is alive in TMX.

thanks for the post Kil! I'm sure I'll add more later and sorry for the disorganized reply.

Forgot to mention too, I had the most fun playing with Sweet Tooth. He was by far the best vehicle IMHO because of his long range missiles his bad ass mech transformation. Plus having enough armor to get take some beatings and gives you the chance to play aggressive. I was a pretty decent Spectre too but never played her too often, other than that Lagslide was the next best vehicle on my list. I wish I was good with Roadkill though, that is my only regret, because he was a SIN in Vince's hands. I hated playing against that RK because not only could he land the special almost every time but he was hard as hell to hit (bit laggy too haha). So those are my only regrets other than not getting to know people better as people and that I miss those times wasting away on TMBO at night 8)

one more edit..

I also was the one that found out Darkforce was the hacker dude ;] My one shining moment I can recall because months before we were talking about hacks on TMBO that DF was trying to make.. then it came clear to me he had to be the hacker haha. I remember having a good time trying to kick his ass with the hacks on but with infinite homings its sorta impossible to kill him ;]

Funny enough they became some of my best buddies in the subsequent years, and Mito even knighted me a >< member last year Smiley! hows that for late bloomer amirite?

I know what you mean by hang up your boots. I did that a year or so ago with tm2pc after 8 years of playing it like a madman... and I was ready to give up everything for the new game but it wasnt my cup of tea. Thats EXACTLY the reason I wanted to spearhead TMBO so badly, give it ONE LAST hoo-rah before the new game really kicked off the party. Too bad the party was a cult ceremony where everyone had to drink the suicide punch Sad

Sweet Tooth?!! Axel is the only god my good sir. St is pretty mediocre at best. His cones are wayyyy easy to dodge. Basically have to freeze people or shoot them at times when people are turning corners to actually land anything. First time Ive heard anyone say that about ST Tongue

Excellent post Roket.  That was awesome to read.  I wanted to say:

1.  Totally with you on the Snowy Roads feeling.  I still sometimes boot it up and hang out in that level 'cause late at night, lights off, it will take me back and I'm THERE again for the first time.  I wish all of the other jackasses I play with would get that feeling 'cause no one will do Roads with me online.

2.  You were always the guy who played with everybody.  The peacemaker.  I still give you, me, Magnum, and Evil Adolph credit for starting the team game tradition (others had done it first, but we started doing it nightly for several weeks consecutive and suddenly everyone was doing it).

3.  You were the first TMA'er I ever faced, and the first one who was a true challenge.  I still remember that game in Junkyard . . .

4.  Sweet's is awesome and he has one hardcore advantage to him . . . amazing dodging.

I took the time to sit and read through all the posts in the thread, some of them were very entertaining to read.

I have to say it kills me knowing that I missed out on a lot of good times. I actually had a network adapter and a TMBO disc at the time, I've only played it a few times and I can remember some of the names on the long list. I just stopped playing because of all of other shit happening in my life at the time.

I wouldn't mind giving Kai a try, but I'd have to find a network adapter and a TMBO disc though.

ST in Asylum Halls is where he shines the most.. sitting on top of near the middle of the slope going out of the halls gives a great angle shooting the cones from a distance. ST was all about the angle you shot at if you wanted to land most of the cones because of latency and where your opponent was moving too. Reminds of me ynoT, haven't seen that guy since first TMX came out.

I just got TMBO and I would play on any stage, including Snowy Roads. What was the problem with that stage? I haven't brought my TV to replace my broken one yet, so I don't feel like setting up kai now.
