TMB Yearbook (Pre-release & Release)
08/19/12 at 18:03:55

Recently, every time I think about TMB or TMBO. I think about what things went on during its pre-release and its release. A lot of nostalgic memories of the entire experience. I guess it was something I wanted to happen again with the new TM game. so TMB nostalgia is even more important than ever. Here are my experiences or memories:

For instance, the following happened during its pre-release:

- I spent a night in Jail
- "If you're gone" by Matchbox 20 was played on the Radio so many times, I could sing that stupid song in my sleep
- Ditto for Dido's song "White Flag"
- It was my first vide game pre order ever (TMB)
- The only reason I bought a PS2 was TMB
- I joined TMA at the start of the TMB home page countdown. Was lurking for a while before
- Had sex at the mall for the first time that year

During and Post release:

- My mother had to buy TMB for me because I was banned from the mall for life. She came back to the car and she laughed and said the clerk asked her if she was buying for her or her kids and she said it was for her son. They told her about the rating blah blah blah, she told them not to worry, he is banned from the mall, but it doesnt mean he is violent and told them I was old enough to get it myself otherwise.
- First game I played for PS2.

So how about you guys? What memories or experiences or world events occurred during that time period that you can remember and wanna share?

heh

I didnt get my TMB on release, I was 15 or so, forget tbh, and mowed lawns and other odd work to buy a PS2. I ended up coming up short and my grandmother helped and bought a used PS2 and got TMB for free. I ended up hooking up the console that night and stared at the TV. I believe I beat the game with Darkside first because I vividly remember playing snowy roads and was in awe with the snow flying all around.

I just remember be an excited kid and I worked hard for my TM ;]

I left work, went to the mall where I had a friend holding a PS2 and a copy of Black behind the counter. They were sold out aside from the ones held for me, and a lot of people were mad to see me walk out with both when they were just turned away.

I remember the first thing I did was shoot down the plane in Zorko's. I didn't even think it'd do anything, let alone contain Yellow Jacket. My buddy was like, "See if you can nail the jet with a homer."... "Ok."... BOOOM! "WTF?! LULZ!".

First game I ever got on PS2 as well.  WHen I first played, I liked Shadow.  Today, I like Crazy 8 better.

Also, when I was first playing the game, I had trouble unlocking Axel until my older brother helped me figure it out.

The first I heard of TMB was Game Informer's cover story on it.  I still have that issue.  I remember being in awe of the contrails of the missiles, and I loved the grittiness of it.

Twisted Metal Black was released the day after my 13th Birthday.  My parents got me a PS2 for my birthday, and wrapped up all the components separately, with the final one being the actual console.  They, being parents, kept denying that they had gotten me a PS2 even after I had unwrapped a memory card, Dualshock 2, etc.  I'm not sure what my first PS2 game was, but I feel like it was Armored Core 2.

My parents got me TMB the next day as a delayed gift.  It was my first M game.  They had determined that the gameplay wasn't anything too gruesome- it was just the movies.  So we made a deal that I could play the game whenever I wanted, but I could only watch the movies with a parent in the room so they could cancel it if they wanted.  My dad never found issue with any of the stories.

But yeah, I played the hell out of that game.  Still love it.  I was in awe of the graphics, and still feel like they stand up to the times better than other PS2 games.

I was so excited about TMBO and mailed off the coupon immediately and check the mail three times a day for it.  When it finally arrived (what felt like 6) months later, I was completley surprised.

It was TMBO which switched my household over to broadband.

I was reading almost every article that was syndicated, obsessing over screenshots before it came out. Read about TMA there in one of the magazines at 14 yrs old, jumped online immediately after school! Saw the immense proportion of fans inundating the boards causing this wave of interest in every direction. Forgot about it after a while, bought it towards around September or November the next year in 2001, I'm not sure if it was full price or not.

My friend had rented it around the day it came out so I first played it at his place as Darkside. It's quite humerous, seeing as I memorized the god mode code of TM2, I had some gracious time to figure the game out, as it did not play like any other TM. I recall the physics and darkness the most, the wicked and inimical artwork secondly. Was impressed at the textures and complexity of the game. Made me realize the great amount of time it took to make such a detailed game.

Later, after purchasing the game myself with the accomodation of my father, I became obsessed. After seeing Sweet Tooth's prologue, addiction set in and therefore changed my life. It still runs in my veins, this obsession, every day. My artistic imagination will bleed through my life in the appraised form inspired by the aesthetic characteristics of TMB.

I love nostalgic posts!!!  Especially about TMB/O ...

Anyways, me and my friends were heavy into TM2 in high school/college and would often get trashed listening to rock music (Outcast and Prodigy stick out the most) and play co op TM2 all night.  A friend of mine had told me about TMA so I lurked for a pretty good while, and it's how I got all my TMB info.

My friends had a ps2 so I bought TMB without even having the console at the time so we could play.  I knew before I even got the game that Brimstone would be my car of choice.  You literally launched a sinner with a bomb (that had been impaled on your own car) onto another car to dance a jig, yell "REPENT" and blow up.  Holy fuck does it get better than that?!!  I eventually got a PS2 (only for TM) and when I did they bought the game as well so we could always play.  The game was so ridiculously fast and I remember how difficult it was for me and Joe Metal to get past the first stage!!!!  Fuck, its hard to say I've ever been more excited for a game to come out (maybe SC2 and I waited for 10 years for that game!).  Me and Joe Metal still play co op to this day when I stay at his house, and it is still that fucking amazing.

A quick aside ... I played TM2 PC when TMBO came out and had Blindside (Swedish rock band) playing and thought they were a part of the soundtrack at first.  So now I can't think of TM2 PC without thinking of Blindside so I play them for TM2 and TMB whenever I play with my friends.

Going into TMBO I can't even begin to talk about how fucking amped I was.  I was the best of my friends and all I wanted to do was to play vs the TMA crowd.   I bought the network adaptor and overnighted the fucking tmbo redemption card.  My terrible friend that wasn't even good at the game managed to get TMBO before me, so playing at his dorm was my first taste of the online experience.  I'll get into what happened with my copy, but first I'll talk about my experience ...

My first game online was on Snowy Roads and the 2 main guys that were in it were Son of Calypso and Xizor along with a full room.  Talk about pumped, I knew both of these guys from the site (I had never posted at this point) so all I wanted to do was prove my worth.  At that time every game was FFA kills and I pulled third behind those 2 so I was pretty stoked.  Can't tell you how close I was to stealing their cd, but I didn't.  After that game (and maybe a couple more) I finally made my post on TMA saying ggs and how happy I was to finally play with the TMA crew.

I was fortunate because Kirk Baum had asked questions to people that had problems getting the TMBO disc, so we chatted on email about how I had overnighted my redemption card but still had no response.  Sure as shit I received my copy the next day, could be coincidence but I'll gladly credit Kirk for being an awesome fucking human being for getting me the game.

TMB/O was really my heyday of online gaming and holy shit do I have the most amazing memories from that time.  I went from Starcraft to TMB to Warcraft 3 and TMBO.  Unfuckingreal the amount of fun I had with my friends because of those games.

Anyways, I've gone into a crazy tangent b/c I think this was supposed to be about TMB only but I couldn't stop once I started.  I bought a ps2 for TMB, an adaptor for TMBO, and ps3 for TMX.  HB might clown me, but if another TM comes out with DJ or SC I'll buy it without a second thought.  Despite any grievances I may have, the series has earned my money and more.
