TM PS3 Hackers
06/02/12 at 22:27:12

I am 100% sure that I just witnessed some form of hacking/cheating. I'm not drinking, taking LSD, or any other drugs that would make me hallucinate. I went into a room after the one I was in emptied out. So game starts and I begin a weapons run. I find out quickly that I won't be self sticking any remote bombs because for some reason they auto explode about 3 seconds after attaching. Then I drive directly thru a stalker but it doesn't get added to my inventory. No one close so I turn around and drive thru it a second time but still nothing. At this point I'm just thinking there's a glitch and hopefully everyone is having the same issues. Fyi it was a team death match in the full Metro map.

Now it really gets shady. I come out of the upper subway tunnel by the mega guns/museum and see a talon in the perfect spot. He's on the far side of the museum. He can't see me as I'm facing his side. He's busy attacking a car that must have been between the museum and the river. I had 2 stalkers and around 10 fire/homing. Slowly drive along the tracks while partially charging a stalker. It hits but no damage. Maybe bad luck so repeat process and again no damage. At this point he finished the other person off and heads directly at me. At this point I realize that his absorption shield is permanently on. I fired a homing for some reason and obviously got a stalker back. I guess he didn't have weapons cuz after he realized I wasn't going to keep shooting he goes inside the museum. I just want to see what is up so I just head back to the tunnel. Sit by the edge until he came back loaded with weapons and still pimping the absorption shield. He kills me but at least I'm sure now what I saw.

At this point I yell for the wife and get her to confirm I'm not insane. Go get a few weapons and begin to look for talon but before I can find him I come across a sweet tooth who doesn't seem to be controlled by anyone. Sitting still. So I decide to attack anyway. Just to see what happens. Hit a couple fire then regular shield activates. Truck starts moving and guess what? The shield stays on. I fire weapons that if all landed would do at least 200 damage. Watched most hit but don't do a single bit of damage after the first two fires. It took him 10-20 seconds to kill me. Neither me nor my wife ever saw him without an active shield. She did nothing but watch him.

I've saw others discuss this here but honestly didn't really believe it. I'm sure some of you won't believe me and I can't blame you. I'm not crazy or a sore loser. I would rather lose to a good player in hopes of learning something instead of killing noobs any day. Twisted Metal is my all time favorite series and it kills me to watch it be destroyed. Enough people left due to connection issues. More will leave if they feel others are cheating. What kind of loser could actually enjoy playing a game you can't lose. I don't get the point. It probably takes way more effort to cheat than it would to practice until your awesome. It doesn't get any more pathetic.

horrible latency issues, and unfortunately they favor the person(s) lagging.  Possible it could be an exploiter with a "lag switch" too.

But it's not hacking.  There's no way to currently hack PS3 games and get online.

Until now I had never heard of a lag switch. After doing some research I'm 99% sure this is what happened. The one guy that used "Chaos" in his screen name was 100% skill. Obviously being 100% skill doesn't make you a cheater but my guess would be a cheater who's not handicapped would have 100% skill. I watched a couple call of duty video's. All I can say is its a good example of just how pathetic a human can be. The real trick is how do they convince themselves that they are smart or skilled on any level. That would be essential to using this as a way to boost ones ego. I guess if you can't get laid, make a single friend, and your grandma won't even hang out with you then go get a lag switch. Fair warning, most people who own a lag switch will eventually kill themselves as even they think they're a loser.

Also can one of the computer guys explain to me how this can't be stopped and is there any way to report this? If so, is it pointless/ are there consequences?

If it was Chaos Animator, he's legit and damn good.  It was probably just a very laggy game.

I have a thread here and one over at the official forums on a ton of lag and latency issues I've noticed, and hope could be patched.  Some have got so bad for me that I really haven't been playing much lately, since the framerate shuddering makes driving and firing accurately impossible.

I don't have a way to test it, but seems to me TM just funnels way too many packets in their netcode, and once you're playing with people overseas, or local with poor connections, everything goes to shit.

I was having better games when everyone else was complaining of not being able to play or connect.  Once they opened up the latency cap, latency went to shit.

No it wasn't the guy you mentioned. I'm pretty sure chaos was the second word.  Anyway I hardly ever have noticeable lag. Just seems shady when the other person seems to be helped by it.

The fact is that I have limited computer knowledge. I'm not illiterate but  I'm not a tech nerd. With nothing more than the term "lag switch" and Google it took me almost no time to not only understand the general idea but also to feel comfortable I'd have no problem installing it. Combine that with the fact that they're so cheap anyone can easily afford one and I'd have to assume this is pretty common. Never under estimate how many d-bags there are in the world. Maybe I'm missing something. At this point I don't care about the specific game but I'm incredibly curious what percentage of people use these. I'd bet there's more than we would like to believe.

I've seen this kinda' stuff happen too, Im pretty sure it's not "hacking" or "modding"....For now. It seems to be the online connectivity, and the way ESP has the servers set up, it's going to be like this for a "
while
".

There isn't any hacking going on, it can't be done on the PS3. What you're witnessing is TM's bad netcode and a couple of players lag switching. Some genuinely have a bad connection though. If you notice a player teleporting throughout the entire match, its most likely a bad connection, however, if the player teleports during key moments, like nearing death or while you're chasing him, its most likely lag switching.

They just exploit lag to their advantage, forcing you to miss attacks and allowing them for easy escape.

The ping limits in TM are ridiculous. I ran a test once. I deliberately lagged my connection, I maxed out my upload to an FTP server with a 20 gig file. I managed to join a room with a 900 ms ping and played for the duration of the match. While the upload was running, I couldn;t join, got network error, so I stopped the upload, joined room, and resumed upload. Worked and I didn't get booted.

Something needs to be done and a low ping limit cap should be set. A few laggers can ruin the pace of a match.

That's one one the major causes of all of the lag. BANDWIDTH. I've run tests across multiple areas, and internet providers. With my 'webz, Big ranked games literally make my internet crash. My modem spazzes for 5 minutes then comes back to life.

I read this thread and I can do nothing but laugh and thank my lucky stars that I finally sacked up and not only sold my PS3, but traded in my copy of TM. This is pure bullshit and Sony can suck my dick. Never will I buy their crap again.

They might not be hacking, but there is definitely a large amount of cheaters of all sorts. It was bad enough to drive that final nail into the TM coffin for me. If I wanted to deal with that kind of lame ass douche-bagger, I'd have bought MW3 instead. At least I would have been expecting it then.

That's been my guess from the start.  Horrible netcode thats using too much bandwidth, and then algorithms that tend to favor high latency players when the netcode starts to crap out.
