I did a scan of just the vehicles; should be more legible now:

Looks like Sweet Tooth is a good car for LMS. Considering he can find anyone hiding... comically ironic really.

i hate saying this because it pisses me off anytime i draw something and i don't notice weird details like this.

But Sweetooth's passenger isn't wearing any pants on the cover. It looks like he's got his leg up in the window and his arm reaching down for his junk.

Either that or what i'm percieving to be an arm is someones face and the leg is his torso. That guy has some jagged knee like shoulders... But seriously squint your eyes and look at that. Hilarious.

Probably not intentional. I can't count how many times i've drawn people fighting and it looks like one of them is grabbing a handful of crotch. The guy riding shotgun just has some leg shoulders and a huge forehead.

I can't unsee it now.

I like it. The secondary specials make it to where each car isn't painted into a hole. It looks like in 1 vs 1 situations some cars may have advantages over others. But not nearly as much as they did in previous games.

Also ghost missiles not only show up on radar. But can also be shot down. That is nice.

I also like the ramming damage that has been mentioned. But i also like that the cars that are most vulnerable to ramming damage seem to break out of EMP's faster.

Also Kamakazi's group EMP sounds awesome. Though i can't imagine it being useful in every game. There are those moments where enemies swarm near each other like flies and a group EMP blast could easily catch 2 vehicles.

On paper the cars look amazing and i can't wait to experiment with different combinations.

But if i had to take a random stab i'd say the mid grade cars are probably the easiest to play as. Though playing Last Man Standing as Reaper sounds a bit difficult, i imagine a skilled player can eliminate just as quickly as they are eliminated.

Lots of variation and i can't really spot anything that looks overpowered or exploitable. Outside of standard run and rush strategies.

I can see Kamakazi being a favorite simply for the speed and power. But without the possibility of being killed in 1 or 2 hits.

I'll probably start off as Vermin cause i like guided missiles, and i bet no one is going to play as him to start with.

I don't think we need to worry too much about specials being too similar right now. For some reason, the biggest question I had was why Crimson Fury and Kamikaze both had flamethrowers, but I've since decided to let it go. All of the specials are going to be different to some degree, even if similar in concept.

I'm willing to bet Jaffe & Scott poured hours and hours into design decisions over which vehicles had what specials; there's a method behind the madness. I'm also willing to wager that once we get 16 people with 17 vehicle choices out on the battlefield, the similarity in vehicle specials is going to the last of your concerns or your focus.

What's absolutely insane to me is how tweaked each vehicle is now. Even vehicles within the same class, like Roadkill and Death Warrant, will probably drive and feel much different. Armor, handling, speed, time taken to break out of an EMP freeze, ramming power, AA regeneration speed and amount used, the degree of EMP homing, carrying capacity, and probably more stats we aren't even aware of right now.

Sound is an important aspect for me, so I can't wait to hear what the different specials sound like, and even more so, how each vehicle sounds when driving around. The one that has stood out the most so far has been the rumbling of Death Warrant's throaty, guttural engine. Sounds terrific, and I can only hope each vehicle is as distinct and appropriate. Really adds to the experience and immersion, even with arcade-style physics and control.

Not a problem, I was glad to do it for anyone who can't get ahold of the magazine for whatever reason.  And again, thanks to Meat for the resize.  I did that on break at work, and didn't really have the time or tools to get the job done right.  But hey, something was better than nothing, I figured. I am going to seriously love playing a Twisted Metal game in nice digital surround. Not that stereo surround bullshit either.

What is road kills special exactly? Does he just fire a bunch of junk at the enemies?

Thanks for the article. Now I'm going to have to try all of the vehicles.

Jaffe said that the similar specials are to create more depth and risk/reward gameplay, like Crimson Fury and Kamikaze both having flamethrowers, it is to basically show that different cars and their specials are better for different situations. Crimson Fury's flamethrower is stronger but has to be done at close range where as kamikaze's is weaker but has longer range and shoots out fireballs every 2 seconds.

Why do I have a feeling some of the repeat specials are placeholders for another unannounced special? Also, I think there's at least two or three cars being withheld from the public.

I personally don't care that the specials are similar, but I do agree with you about 2 or 3 cars being kept a secret from us.
