Speaking of childish behavior...
So a couple weekends ago, there was a huge car show that's held annually in Helen, Georgia. It's a small town in the mountains that is absolutely breathtaking, with the buildings looking something out of Ireland, circa the 1400s. Started in the 60s, Southern Worthersee is a car show held primarily for VAG: Volkswagen Automotive Group. Meaning thousands of VWs, Audis, Porsches, Lambos, etc. As far as I know, it's always been held in the same place. Ok, there's your history lesson for the day.
So anyway, someone on the VW forums made a post about his "first SoWo experience", and about how he's never going back again. The weekend was ripe with fights, drunken shenanigans resulting in more fights, mild vandalism (throwing objects at cars passing by), people doing burnouts in crowded areas, disrespecting the cops who were being cool enough to let these fucking retards get away with practical murder, and the list goes on.
See, this is what happens when we let the "swag generation" out of mommy and daddy's sites for longer than ten minutes. They get together, and think they're untouchable. Prime examples:
- Throwing full beer cans at the police when they drive/ride by, then disappearing into a crowd of people like they're Ezio fucking Auditore
- Throwing cans, utensils, whatever they can get their grubby hands on, and throwing them at cars passing by, some having THOUSANDS put into paint and body alone (i.e., me)
- Just throwing their trash on the ground, even if there is a can or bin within reasonable walking distance. It's a beautiful town, why ruin it like that?
- Guys calling out extremely disrespectful comments to other guy's gfs/wives, even when they had kids with them. In fact, the entire family aspect was thrown out the window with the language on display there
- While it wasn't a problem this year, stealing. The last couple years saw people going around and jacking shit from people's cars, like center caps from high-end, imported wheels, antennaes, roof racks (which will horribly damage paint and your roof if done improperly), etc. Although apparently stealing the towns flags still went down this year
- Disrespecting the JDM crowd that showed up. Yes, the Honda/Nissan/Toyota guys like to come out and support the euro guys because a lot of them are *gasp* true car enthusiasts who don't care what you drive, they just love all things automotive. And how do they get treated? By having trash thrown at them and told to GTFO, being told their cars are pieces of shit. And God forbid they leave their car unattended for as long as it takes to go take a piss in a convenience store bathroom:
There's also an incident where a group of these guys were harassing some guy's gf, and the dude got mad and pulled a knife. The result was the kid who was antagonized being arrested, while the offending group laughed at him as he was being put in the cruiser with his gf crying her eyes out because she didn't know what to do to help him. There are mixed stories here, though, so it's still up in the air who's at fault. Supposedly, the guy and his gf were high and piss ass drunk, so I don't know.
At the end of the day, what the fuck is going on with the world? I mean, throwing shit at a car that someone probably spent all year and tons of cash to perfect? If I take my Harlequin Golf next year and that shit happens to my car, my spotless criminal record will officially be ruined, because I simply WON'T be able to stop myself. And no fear of the cops? Is our penal system so lenient that assaulting a police officer doesn't get you shit these days? I just don't get it, but I do know that I don't like it.
