The best advice that I can give to you is, make yourself an X-Link account after downloading it, have a PS2 that's network able, and a TMBO disc.

Get online with those that still play, and learn at their feet what to do.

Yes it's a general answer but......it's for the best young Padawan.

Hate to sound like a noob here, but how do you do some of the special special attacks here, like the T-slide and some of the other attack techniques mentioned here? Also, can anyone give any tips for dodging?

Wow.  I missed this back when, sorry.  I know I, and I'm sure most, would be willing to get in a 1 on 1 room and show techniques and stuff.

That's probably the best way to understand the basics.  It also helps if you have skype so you can hear, vocally, as we show you.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand what they were going for with Grimm? 95 armor on top of a special that gets outclassed by most heavy armor vehicle specials in terms of damage AND overall effectiveness? How lame!

The "balance" of certain cars is indeed... absolutely mind bogglingly terrible. IMO it stems from developers picking favourites.

The regular weapons are amazingly well balanced and deep. Varying speeds, homing capabilities, bonuses, and uses. Skill weapons were an amazing addition too.

However, I personally believe tons of cars got beefed up in TMBO (all did, technically, even grimm) because it created a FASTER game. Cars can literally get 1-2 shotted. In TMB this was very rare, but it was mostly a game fashioned around Human vs AI. Not Human vs Human encounters. Having an AI one shot you isnt very fun lol (sniper rifle TMX, facepalm)

Nearly every weapon in TMBO has been upgraded as well, homing parameters were increased because they were RIDICULOUSLY easy to dodge in TMB. Brimstone, Outlaw, Shadow (Secondary special), are amongst the biggest piles of shit in TMB. This helps make a faster game if shit is harder (but not impossible) to dodge, and packs more of a punch. Good changes imo. I wouldn't want to play a TMBO match with TMB homing parameters EVER.

The biggest balance joke is Axel. His shockwave has the radius of a tactical nuke, and it can blast you through walls and up/down floors. His secondary special acts as a projectile cock of doom, that crushes enemies for 44 damage, and in this special damage is reduced 75-85%... an armored cock basically.

But axel being OP is in line generally speaking with TM2PC, and TMHO... it was a tradition really.

EDIT: And despite grimm kinda sucking... a skilled player CAN kick some mega ass with him when using that scythe properly. And the car is good at dodging (as most small cars have that programmer given gift)

Axel is OP in TM2 as well? Damn, I thought Thumper would have the title of most broken TM2 character.

As for TMHO, I can't say I know how the balance works in that game, I never played it online, and I haven't seen enough online gameplay to really know what to think of it.

Are you sure Axel is the best car in TM2? I don't see how he can beat Minion head on and Spectre in stages with walls. Minion is faster and can shoot an ice, without advance attack and has the same ram as Axel. As for Spectre, as soon as he escapes to solid walls and shoot ghost missiles, you might as well give up.

I don't think Minion should even be considered as balanced considering that he was a boss character that they let you play for fun rather than for a balanced car choice.

If I remember correctly, Specter's special doesn't recharge that fast, so it would be possible for Axel (or almost any car) to shield most of the Ghost Missiles. They are easy to spot and on most maps Spectre can't hide well. On New York and Hong Kong he may dominate, but on every other map I seriously doubt it.

Then again, I never played TM2 online, so maybe you guys know some tricks and strategies that I don't.

Actually, when these guys were still playing TM2PC, the shield was banned, because it lasts too long and makes fights take forever to finish. Even if it wasn't banned, Spectre can hold four specials and shooting one, will force you to waste a shield and shoot another one, when it stops, until you have no more, while his advance attack is still full, due to hiding and running away. That's unless you're playing Holland, because the ghost missile can't go through the destroyed windmill.

I said Minion, because I want to know if Axel can actually beat him, because they said he's broken. I don't see that happening, against a pro player using Minion.

Huh, I would never have guessed that shield was banned, though that does make sense thinking about how much energy cars tended to have.

Tm2PC shields last 10-12 seconds... completely broken. So thats why we banned them. Elsewise it would take ten years to finish a game lol. TM2PSX version it was reasonable to use shields.

And i never said Axel was the best, just overpowered in Tm2PC. I personally think Spectre is the best car, hands down. Impossible to catch and his dodging is supreme over every other car besides maybe Minion (but Minion isnt compact)

Heres one of the few TM2PC online videos we have http://vimeo.com/2925829
The dude playing Axel was my equal and better than me with certain cars, hes kicking ass and he doesnt even use his shockwave (playing Tamed Axel). Im Slam in the first part, and I play axel later on in the second segment for holland.

Axel has armor galore, crushing power of a god, and amazing dodging capability (reverse drive and jumping bean which is done a fuck ton in the video)

I have beaten minions 1on1 and not even running away, its simple to dodge that special with spectre. Only way to really hit spectre is with homings, and an open level like holland. But yes I still think Minion is overall better... but i mean hes not really a standard roster balanced car, hes a boss car.

Axel is definitely up there though. Crush does equal if not more damage than Hammerhead, and he doesnt need a special to do so. His shockwave also launches people in the air making him near unstoppable on roof levels.

And Thumper is a bottom tier/lower end car. Kinda meh handling, risky special that can set YOURSELF on fire. A special where you have to get in real close and mostly useful on frozen targets, coupled with low armor makes him an easier prey for big dogs to ram/crush. There are some neat tricks with him but hes definitely balanced. Good in team games especially in the right hands.

That clear things up. I brought up Minion because I wanted to know if he can still beat Axel, despite his shockwave craziness. I already know about you beating Minion with Spectre.

What? Were only debating. Stop being scared. Digging up info on the history of TM2PC and TMBO is interesting.

Heh, well the most impressive part in TM2PC imo was the gameplay combos. The shit we came up with was damn creative and destructive. Much cooler than dodging Tongue (Homings were dodgeable but literally a biiiiiitch to dodge, but it was ok since they were rare items in many levels)

Mr Slam special technically does not "grab" Hammerhead or Minion. But it does do damage, and does cause significant knockback. If you use the slam on HH or Minion and time it to land exactly same time as a ram or a napalm/power missile, you've now hit them with the force of a Mack truck. I coined it the "super donk".

Slam himself can grab someone, then drive backwards, laying mines, and shooting weapons. Tm2 was the one game where you could use two weapons at the same time.

Twister laying mines while enemies are in your twist WILL KILL any car in less than 3 seconds. And only need to use like 3 mines depending on car lol.

Thumper can actually have TWO SPECIALS out at the same time for 1-2 seconds overlap. Since his special lasts like 3-4 seconds, if you use two specials they will overlap for 1 second (mega melt damage). Or can pin someone against a wall, freeze them, use special, let the flamer run and then shoot out a rico or power missile to knock them back against the wall while they are roasting.

Roadkill boomerangs did triple or quad damage when they returned. A skillful special that was hard to master but when you did it was a top tier car.

We unfortunately didnt record a lot of this shit since TM2PC ran like shit with FRAPS recording... for most people. And we had to find out wtf was the problem.

http://vimeo.com/2134742 A good 2v2, no sound or music... so just listen to something while watch. Pretty good gameplay there. Hard to see score in topright. But it was first team to 40 deaths combined loses. And my team won by 1 second.

You might think that Thumper was top tier because of TM2PSX. The PC version of Thumper was nerfed simply because rather than putting lets say 80 points of damage over the course of 7 seconds (PC), they made it 80 points of damage in about 4 seconds in the PSX version. This just meant the damage came faster and it was harder to get out of. He was ridiculous in PSX.
