Don't want to make an entirely new thread about this, but from Jaffe's Q&A session today it appears button-smashing is returning. If an enemy Talon picks you up you'll smash one of the face buttons until you are released. I don't know about you but I don't like this. I recently played Jaffe's God of War 1 again and I swear my circle button is about to fall off after all that smashing. It'd be nice if they can change the control to shaking the sixaxis. But I'm so tired of button smashing in games that if nothing gets changed and I get lifted by an enemy Talon I'll just say, "Fuck it, take me where ever you want"

First thing I'm going to do is use Roadboat and throw someone off a building. I've always loved seeing things fly/fall to their death.

Hehe, I wonder what it will look like to be THAT GUY being thrown off a rooftop?

So do you think there'll be any weapons we can use to shoot at a talon that has lifted us up or not? I can just imagine a missile pointed up and blowing up the talon right above you.

I tried to ask Dave a few questions about free-for-all MP (online) and selecting characters in MP:

Quote:
@davidscottjaffe Big question going on at ESP forum. Will an online MP mode like free for all still be factions or individual characters?

@davidscottjaffe and in a FFA online mode will each car be character specific, unlike other MP modes like Nuke? Or is ALL MP faction based?

.@Soundwarden Free for all doesn't really say. You pick any car and stick any faction you want in it and battle. There is no 'faction fiction' in the free for all modes.

Quote:
@davidscottjaffe So if I understand you correctly, online FFA mode = pick any car & choose from 4 faction characters?

.@Soundwarden Pretty much yes. Give or take a few details....but you have the high concept correct.

Quote:
@davidscottjaffe So individual characters within each faction or if you pick a faction you get the same character (or a random character)?

.@Soundwarden Free for all=pick a vehicle and then stick a driver (and gunner) from the 1 player campaign inside the chosen vehicle. It IS going to be a bit different than '10+ characters and stick any in a vehicle' but as we talk more about 1 player u will see why and- we hope- dig the change.

Honestly, I think I'll prefer complex AA.  In terms of the freeze, I think the difficulty in pulling one off (in the form of the delay due to execution time, and the need to multitask between steering and executing the combination) mitigates the vulnerability of the victim when they lack the shield energy to nullify a freeze.  In addition, I think having to use your wits and driving skills to predict just the right moment to prime the execution of a freeze was a fun challenge, and made it seem all that more rewarding when successfully landing a well-timed shot.

Now, I'm not intending to play devil's advocate here, and I understand that it could be frustrating mentally and physically at times, but I think there actually are some significant benefits to complex AA.

The only thing about the T rating is there will probably be more than the usual amount of little fucking annoying brat kids playing the game. This isn't a big deal at all being as that means lots of fresh noob meat so devour and feast on, muhahaha. Thankfully we have tons of adult and mature members here so this won't effect anything. But yeah, its good that this broadens the possible amount of players and new comers. Its crazy to think that a whole new generation of Twisted fans might be starting with this game, but at the same time awesome.

And I completely understand those who are hesitant and worried about not being able to drive and play with the d-pad anymore because I was the same way until I started gaming in this generation of consoles. Now, I'm over driving in racing games or doing almost anything other than the most basic simple weapons selection or commands on the d-pad. Analog sticks are second nature to me and I think anyone can in time get used to playing that way.

I've also been wondering about the picking up cars with Talon and Roadboats special where he sucks cars and holds them. I wonder how long you can do both for. I'm sure you can't just drive around forever with someone tied to your vehicle. At the same time just being able to mash a button and be released kind of negates using Talons special as an offensive move.

There's a part of me that wishes the commands would have stayed, or at least the freeze stay as a projectile weapon. Now it's that EMP thing. I will forever miss being able to bend freeze shots around impossible corners and landing it. *cry* But this will level the playing field for some people where complex AA would have turned some people off.

Here's just one awesome scenario I foresee in the game w/Talons and Roadboat's magnet special. If Talons can pick up enemies then that means they can drop vehicles to their deaths from rooftops. Unless of course Roadboat is near by to save the day via use of that special. Simply lock onto your fellow factions vehicle now dangling over the rooftop edge and snag em' w/the magnet and throw em' to safety. Sure they may take a lil damage, but a small sacrifice to elude death. Just adds to the defensive use and tactics of Roadboat.

I want to jump off a tall building with Roadboat, use my special to grab Talon in mid air, and then pile drive that nigger into the ground.

I think with the evolution of all game series you find the core mechanics get easier/more user friendly as the games progress.  From TM2 to TMB the handling became much easier, but the speed of the game increased by a crazy amount.  I think although the AA will be easier to pull off, there will certainly be a trade off on a different end.  From PJ's comments about the game, it seems that landing weapon hits will be easier in this incarnation vs TMBO so that will change things up dramatically if thats the case (at least for the TMBO vets where dodging and stockpiling was a big part of the 1v1 strategy).

I've always been a very aggressive player, so anything that encourages aggressive gameplay is a plus for me ... and from what I'm hearing that seems to be the case with this game.

and Xizor .. I think you've come up with the first breakthrough (not sure if thats the proper word) idea of the game, lol that is fucking great
