--CONTINUED FROM ABOVE 3--

For the multiplayer aspect of TM 1 PC, I was able to use both my Dell XPS M1530 laptop and an old HP ZE5500 laptop to run TM 1 online (the 1999 compaq has no wireless card).  For those who are curious about the specs, both laptops ran Windows XP Professional.  The Dell has a 512MB Nvidia Geforce 8600M graphics card with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHZ processor with 4 GB of ram.  The HP has a 64 MB ATI Raedon IGP 345M graphics card with an Intel Pentium 4 2.6 GHZ processor with 442 MB of ram.

Both connected to each other fine on the home network and were able to see each other from within TM 1 PC.  Here (from an e-mail to Archminion) is an analysis of the music from within multiplayer mode:

Arena - Track 2 (same as 2 Player PSX)
Warehouse District - Track 6 (this is what normally plays in 1 player and 2 player mode on the PSX as opposed to track 3 in the PC 1 player mode)
Freeway - Track 1 (same as 2 player PSX)
City Park - Track 3 (this is what normally plays in the PSX 2 player mode for City Park as well - interesting how the tracks fall in line with each other)
Cyburbia - Track 6 (It is interesting to note that this level, like the PSX version, is merely the canal portion and not the whole Cyburbia level, yet it is titled Cyburbia.  This track also plays on the 2 Player "Canal" level on the PSX)
Rooftop - Track 7 (same as 2 player PSX)

From this track list, it is shown that both the PC and the PSX versions of Twisted Metal play the exact same tracks for their multiplayer options.  It makes me wonder though why, if the tracks are properly aligned for playback, does the PC version of Twisted Metal play a different track for the warehouse and city park levels?

I also did a playthrough of Twisted Metal 2 for PC and the tracks on that disc are copied the exact same way as the PSX Twisted Metal 2 disc.  All of the songs are exactly the same on each level of the PSX and the PC versions of Twisted Metal 2 as well, so there is no doubt in my mind that the tracks for Twisted Metal for the PC are in their correct spots as well.

--CONTINUED FROM ABOVE 4--

So, what can we here at TMAlliance conclude about TM 1 PC in terms of the music and how it compares to the PSX version?  The 1 Player part of the PC version plays some tracks differently from the PSX while the 2 Player parts are identical to each other.  Anyone have any theories or would know any insight as to why these differences exist between ports?  After all, TM 2 PC is exactly like TM 2 PSX in terms of the music tracks on the levels, so why does TM 1 have to differentiate?

--UPDATE--

I have gotten past River Park Rumble and have gotten to Cyburbia in 1 Player.  The verdict:  Track 5 plays in the PC just like the PSX... so these tracks are correctly aligned.  Cyburbia is just impossible to beat though because of all the enemies killing you at once.

--IN CONCLUSION--

So after reading all of the posts I have just created, you probably are exhausted and want me to never type another thing on these threads right??  Grin  Well the reason I posted all of these observations for you guys is because I know when I download a game from the Internet, I want the full experience (e.g. the full disc image compared to a simple RIP - That's why my status is what it is!)  I hate when people do not provide enough details about a file or game (such as music tracks and such) - ESPECIALLY when there are differences between two ports of games.  I hope this may have cleared up any issues for someone who may have been wondering about the differences between the PSX and the PC versions of Twisted Metal 1.  If there is anything you guys have questions on about my analysis in the posts, don't hesitate to PM me.

Oh and one last thing... if anyone has ANY cheats for this game at all, please share!  A God mode code or a registry hack would be INCREDIBLY useful for this game in finding out how it works!

cheers 3789!

Thanks for taking the time to look into it.

I haven't been playing much of tm1pc myself at the minute but its only bcos the old machine I'm using to run it has no sound and doesn't run the game in a full window (unlike the toob vids from my mate).

There are a few interesting gameplay quirks to check for as well, I've only played all the way through as HH on easy.

The game feels harder (maybe the keys for me?) and there are a few nasty suprises (yes the start of Freeway FFA will be a twat for most light cars).

Also check out DS's new special attack- its even got a different descripion on the car bio screen.

Its been an absolute scream finding this game.

Now has anybody got any Harbor City protos they'd like to sell...

Yeah Archminion, how DID you find TM 1 PC anyway?  What website did you go to?  I know you must have bought it from a Japanese site or something, but googling the game only turns up the stuff you submitted here and at other sites.  I'm curious because I wonder if (or where for that matter) it's possible to buy Warhawk:  The Red Mercury Missions on PC?

I've read that Darkside was supost to be a boss in twisted metal 2. Do you think the coding is still present, or mybe you could take darkside from twisted metal and put him into twsited metal 2?

Hey TMAlliance!  For those who may be curious about the music in-game, I was able to finally get to the rooftop level in 1 Player mode and I can confirm that the same song that plays in the PSX version (track 7) plays on the rooftop level in both the regular battle and the minion battle.  So, the ultimate conclusion is that the ONLY track that is different between versions is that in the PC version it plays Track 3 in the Warehouse and River Park Rumble Levels.  In the PSX version, track 6 plays for Warehouse and track 4 plays for River Park Rumble.  It seems track 4 isn't used in the PC version at all, yet is there to keep the rest of the tracks in line...

On a side note I tried switching the tracks around and it throws everything out of whack; so there you have it, all of the music on the PC version levels are now known!

I'd really like to mess around with this.  I played the hell out of TM1 on PS1, but never even heard of the PC version.

The SendSpace link is dead.  Any chance someone could re-up the disk / image or tell me where to get it?  Can't find it ANYWHERE.

If LAN is playable...then there's a chance we can get to play with Hamachi.

Like the others above me said, I want to check it out. It intrigues me. I knew TM2 was on PC but the original Twisted Metal?
