I think the only reason to play TM1PC is out of sheer curiosity. The online play desyncs very easily. It only takes a couple of minutes for things to be completely desynchronised to where your opponent is just driving into a wall, while on your opponents side he's actually driving around. On the same note i'm not even sure if it works over a network without the desync.

It would be nice if files could be dragged over or converted to TM2PC. But that seems unlikely. Even if the files could be dragged over. Actually getting them to function sounds like a fools earrend.

Considering how old the game is and the fact we'll never get the source for it. Probably better off creating your own game engine over trying to modify TM2 or TM1PC.

Honestly i'm just glad we have a way to play TM2PC online. I feel grateful the only sacrifice we had to make was to all agree to not use shields haha. Though it would be awesome if someone could find out how to make TM1PC work without the desync problem.

I fixed this error. Are you running Windows Vista or 7?

I am however having issues running the installation on this. Resolution error trying to install.  Does this game run on Windows 7 at all?

It does though the game will be a colorful mess when you play.

For Windows 7 i highly suggest a Wrapper like VMware.

Mortimer taught me about VMware. It's basically a Windows emulator for your newer version of windows. I use it to play Duke 3D, TM2, Decent, Metal Gear, and all of my favorite Win 98 games.

If you use VMware you'll be totally set. TM1 will open just like it would in Windows 98 and everything will function just fine.

Other then that. You could try DOS. That probably works too, though good luck actually doing anything with it besides playing single player.

If you want to play the game online.... I'm not sure why you would even try after knowing it only works for 30 seconds. But you can use the Kali program to try it out. The network code is like an unfinished version of what was used in TM2PC. So it will connect just fine.

The Desynch kills it though. Even playing Coop is impossible because eventually both players gradually end up in their own game spaces. Both games become completely disjointed.

I didn't know there was co-op?

A shame we can never really try it.

The manual is totally in Jap and fooling around with the files didn't give a co op mode away.

My friend still had this running best on Xp in compat mode (I think).

Thats his vids on Youtube...

I may have totally hallucinated a coop option. Though if it did exist. There is no split screen support and the network support is broken.

Thinking about it. I have not tried it over a local area network. Perhaps over a local network it won't desync.

I build VMWare all the time at work. I guess ill need an emulator to work it. I think Mort is gonna send me his copy, with what he uses to get it working since he offered his assistance.

Thanks Cliff.... appreciate it.

I've misplaced the CD I bought from archminion. If anyone could give me the current DL link I'd love it.

I'm working on hacker projects currently.

Twisted metal is on my radar.

It'll be easy peasy japanesey.

EDIT: Just found the link.

Damn was I tired yesterday.

I run XP Service pack 3. 2.0 GHz processor, 1GB RAM.
I got it to install by running it in Windows NT compatability mode. Go figure. It runs fine in widows 98 compatability mode.

On a side note, the autoplay icon seems to be the same one used by tm2pc. Odd.

Darkside's special HAS changed, it is harder than normal, ESPECIALLY the Freeway, the CD image does not want to play music for me, you can change the time of day for the levels, and the graphics are slightly downgraded. There is heavy fog in some levels, I've noticed. Crimson Fury shoots two Crimson Blades instead of one, and enemies scream when they die. Minor changes, but they are noticable if you've played the ps1 version enough. Other than those issues, it seems Identical. I'll get to work on those registries.

EDIT - DAMMIT! It ran fine at first now it's giving me memory at 0x(random string of numbers and letters) could not be read and crashes after the intro. I've tried low resolution, no advanced text servieces, several compatability modes, and 256 colours (which crashes the game at the loading game screen) but all to no avail. Any help?

Another EDIT - It seems to work from my flash drive... wierd...

There will be a lot of hacking going on.

The only difference between the tm1 and tm2 files is the header.

The header can be easily changed.

Fun shall be had by all I promise!

So, what I gather from this is that models could be switched out? Level textures? Fun indeed. I could look into this more when I get to my work PC...

The textures will be very easy. TPC file format is nothing but a bunch of .TIM files stacked on top of eachother.

Not even sure exactly what .DPC files do. I've been swapping them out to try to get TM1 cars into TM2.

So far I have gotten white machine gun fire, and blue lightning from the environmental attacks.

Yeah the freeway...

Jeez that was a rude awakening the first time I played it.

Darkside is an absolute bastard now with his built in freeze special AND freeze missile spam.
