I'm all for customization, but do remember that they are going to try to grow the audience, naturally, so there should definitely be some really good pre-set modes for the new players.
The players who just jump in a game should ideally have a good first experience with the game. As opposed to something like a 3 on 1 machine gun only match on a huge level with infinite AA, etc. I hate to bring up unlimited weapons games, but it really is the result of them wanting to add options for the players, and we all know how that turned out. The problem is that some people just can't make a fun, balanced match to save their life, and if you give that power to everybody, you'll probably get a lot of these kinds of people making games, thinking that they know what they are doing.
Also, what if there is a matchmaking + ranking system like Halo and Call of Duty? these games force people to play under the same rules in order to be on a level playing field while they "rank up". How would customization work in that scenario?
I thought TMHO had a pretty good balance of options personally - they corrected some of the problems from TMBO, such as adding in-game team modes, relic timers, health on/off etc. I assume they will add a lot of modes, but I think that's a pretty good jumping-off point.
If we're just talking from a selfish perspective, I'm all for an infinite amount of customization for all the TM fans of TMA to be able to adjust / balance everything how they want it, and I'm sure there will be some of that. But how far will they go with it?
I hope we won't have to balance too much ourselves, as I assume they will be supporting it with patches. That said, there was always some level of disagreement within TMA about what was and wasn't cheap, and if you add in all the tons of new players who may have a skewed / inexperienced perspective, there may be a lot of mixed feedback. Hopefully they'll look to TMA for balance concerns though (crosses fingers)
