Recently at the theaters I saw Angels and Demons and Star Trek. A&D was average, Star Trek was pretty good for what it was (but I wasn't "converted" so to speak - I guess I'm just not into that kind of movie in general).
I saw Valkyrie on Blu-Ray and it was pretty good, but the lack of suspense was inevitable. Given the fact that everybody knew the ending I thought it did pretty good with what it had to work with.
I saw Taken too which I thought sucked. Horrible acting, no character development, and ridiculously overboard violence that made even Jack Bauer look half-reasonable.
I also saw Austrailia - I don't know why, the previews looked stupid but the movie was even worse. It was just abysmal in every way. I can't remember the last time I came that close to turning off a movie in the middle of it. And I also found myself rooting for the brutal murder of a child because he was so annoying, and this made me relate to the main villain so my perspective was distorted. But the acting sucked, the plot sucked, the directing sucked, it was too long, and there was no reason for it to have been made.
I saw "Tell No One" on Netflix which was pretty good, though confusing. But in a good way - it was one of those convoluted mystery movies and it did it well.
Saw "Let the Right One In" which was a sweedish love story about an adolescent vampire. It was very strange, but good, and the ending was fucking epic.
Looking forward to the release of Waltz with Bashir on Blu-Ray. I JUST missed it at the theater and I really wanna see it.
For me, the "summer blockbuster" season is one of the worst for movies. I can't wait until Oscar season when the really good movies come out. There were like 6-8 really good movies that came out in like a 3 month span late last year / early this year.
