I cannot stop smoking

The solution would be to eliminate stress from my life. To do that i would need complete control over about 60 different people. Control that doesn't involve me handcuffing them and restraining them to the floor.

So the other option is to replace the ciggeretes with something else. To help me ignore the stress, since it cannot be evaded.

Alcohol works. But if i keep drinking i'd just be digging my self a deep hole. Plus it doesn't stop cravings. In addition to that it's easy to notice a drunk. It also lowers my work preformance.

Painkillers help. They do help eliminate cravings. They are also discreet. But they lose their effect after a few weeks. Then i need dangerous ammounts for relief. Which traps me into another bad addiction. With a nice bonus, painful withdraws.

The other solution is to quit. But i cannot resist.

Weed would be perfect. But it is far too dangerous, because of the rediculous punishment for being caught.

I do need help. But this seems impossible. Asking me to handle my current situation dead sober is too much. I will snap and hurt someone.

If i keep smoking ciggerettes like i do... Fuck gambling with my life. I'm at a loss.

I see that you are aware of the effect that smoking has on you, but just to be clear... do you actually want to stop smoking?

It may seem a stupid question in light of everything you mentioned, but I have to ask since you may believe it has more use to you than it causes harm.

I know it's hard, but have you ever considered those nicotine patches or at least the gum? They're supposed to reduce cravings, and it seems as though they work, although you have to take other measures to stop (as you mentioned, finding other ways to relieve stress, not being around smokers, finding things to do with your hands... etc)

There's also a drug called buproprion these days which can establish the same effect, and I'm not aware of serious side effects with it. You only need to take it for a fixed period of time as well, I believe.

I have 1 family member that quit, 2 friends that quit, and I myself have quit smoking using Chantix. I really can't suggest any other way, because the other ones are just miserable.

Well I already HAD a topic kinda like this going but oh well. I just quit myself finally. It became somewhat easy because I dont have a ride and dont smoke in my house so the desire wasnt really there anymore. I pretty much just said Im going to quit and did. I know its different for everyone but for me its always been easy to quit and pick back up. I didnt have any problems what-so-ever. No withdrawls or anything.

But I usually smoke after sex as does pretty much anyone who smokes so that advice doesnt really work. Also you have to be having sex to get an addiction to it or else its just a pathetic masterbation habit. I have neither so what do you say to THAT.

Dont quit. some of the happiest people are smoking. And I do it too. It helps my stress and anxiety. Movies/ganes it. And youll be much worse if you stop. Whats the point of stopping? Especially if it makes you feel better? I wouldnt give it up. Even if you CUT DOWN and not quit entirely. And it goes great with weeeeeeeed, drinking and sx. Just cut down and just do it socially.

I tried quitting at least half a dozen times because of my health. But every time i wind up going back in a few months anyways.

My only beef is its getting more expensive.

That's terrible advice, P7. Hellbent is doing a really good thing for himself if he wants to quit a habit that only has negative effects; why would you want to discourage him?

It's not even to say it's like alcohol where you could say it helps you loosen up and get more confident to hook up with women; the yellow teeth and bad breath that smoking is more likely to cause will scare them away!

I slowly cutting back on my smoking. I used to be almost a pack a day and now I'm down to about 4-5 a day. I'm doing it for the fact that they are almost $6 a pack (when I do the match that's almost $1,200 a year) and for my health. At 20 years old I'm in terrible shape. I just want to get in at least average shape for my age. I weigh MAYBE 135 lbs on a good day. Which would be alright if I was like 5'6, but I'm 6'3. So I look like a twig.

I have gained a little weight lately. I'm getting some color back in my skin since it's getting nice outside. I used to go jogging for exercise so I need to start doing that again.

Quit smoking = Almost definately gaining weight and if hes doing weed than it doesnt matter. I know he didnt give up on that yet. It all goes hand in hand.

So, no its not terrible advice, just not advice you would wanna hear.

You have to have the will power to just stop and you must know ahead of time before you even try to stop that you have the mind set to follow through with it. I imagine its just terrible for you Hellbent working at a bar.

We haven't really talked too much since your PC died so I don't know what your stress is being caused by, but the obvious solution would be to remove the stress (which you would have done already if it was easy I'm sure). But I applaud you for trying to quit, in the long run you'd be much better off without it I would suspect.

Perhaps we can speak more when I return.

Absolutely. You get props for trying to quit. But if you are smoking just for stress, then yea thats a problem. But if you are just smoking socially, there is nothing wrong with that. If its causing you more stress totry and quit, than hold off. Better for you to smoke than to drink like an alcoholic and eat non stop because you quit your stress reliever. Thats worse.
