I can't stand the way they dole out DLC maps on current games. It even happens on Steam but at least there are pages for player made content. But that doesn't change the fact you gotta buy the season pass to get the real shit at a hardly reasonable price.
Even worse then the price is that they are adding shit like double XP and other bonuses for getting the "season pass". They are turning full games into pay to play now. Because unless you buy the game and sign up for the season pass you are essentially playing an extended trial.
Especially in the case of Multiplayer games where many players don't even touch the campaigns. Also where XP based unlocks can be a serious pain in the ass.
The funny thing is games next generation are going to be even more expensive. This whole DLC thing is their way of covering the cost of how much certain studios require to make games. Realistically games should cost around $90 for your Halo 4's and Killzone's.
The problem with all of that is that games like Aliens Colonial Marines if sold at the appropriate price would cost $90. Halo 4 would cost the same too. So while it doesn't seem like there is a change. People simply aren't going to put up with buying a $90 shit game.
It's going to cause a crash. Not like the one in the 80's though. What's going to happen is that all of those shovel ware third party companies are going to die off like all those .com businesses after the internet boom. Consoles will have less games on them.
Not sure if that means the games will be better or not. But i bet there will be less of them and they'll cost more.
