Might be a sign a new TM is on the way.

Sony can't seem to let Sweettooth go for some reason.

David Jaffe said he was making a new short video game 3-4 hours, similar to Limbo, Inside and based heavily on story telling. And Rob Zombie has new music out this year. Could be getting interesting this year especially with all the clown related. Joker movie, It 2, 3 From Hell, etc.

Year of the clown.

I'm surprised Sony is doing this to be honest, given the Twisted Metal movie got cancelled not that long ago. Twisted Metal lore and continuity is a mess too, with some of the games being reboots, alternate universes, spin-offs.

Maybe Sony is indeed trying to capitalize on the evil clown trend (IT sequel and Joker film upcoming) and this TM show will be more about Sweet Tooth rather than the contest/Calypso, or a character who isn't evil like an Outlaw type.

I'll watch it for sure but I don't have the highest expectations. Hopefully they get some good actors and good enough writing and it's not a total shitfest.

And I don't really see this as a sign of a new TM game in the future but now I'm more convinced they will release a TM remaster and cash in on the nostalgia while they still can.

i agree with that nostalgia has been selling lately though Sony not very good with it PS Classic... but only time will tell if its good they may want a new game but if Sony smart they get Jaffe to help them so its not another 989 shitshow...

Not a big fan of sweet tooth so if the show is about him i will likely not like it.
What i would like is if they somehow followed the LOST formula in which the show starts in the contest and we get to know the characters via flashbacks. Characters like Spears and Robert could have interesting concepts like how Spears life is in ruin due to his fail at nam or Robert witnessing the effects TM had on his life. Needles is not really an interesting character for me.
And yeah Clowns are in vogue right now.

The only way I see the show working is if it's like Black Mirror or Twilight Zone. Each episode follows one character to completion of the tournament, they get their wish, Calypso fucks them over, end. There can be continuity between episodes that tie them together, but ultimately we find out it's all in Sweet Tooth's head anyway. Next season can have a different tone (dark, colourful, children contestants, clan warfare), just like the games do, rinse, repeat.

I agree that the Twilight Zone/Night Gallery method is probably the best way to go for Twisted Metal but I wouldn't want it taking itself too seriously, like Black Mirror does, so the show would be best to follow the example of Tales from the Crypt.
Tales from the Crypt was able to be scary and funny at the same time, it didn't take itself too seriously, kind of like the Twisted Metal series. Plus the Crypt Keeper role could easily be filled by either Calypso or Sweet Tooth or even the undead Mortimer.

I figure action scenes will be a big part of the show though, most likely drawing inspiration from the Mad Max and Death Race movies. I imagine the car combat sequences will prove to be the biggest challenge for the producers.

For sure the tone needs to be kept fun and sadistic. I don't want any social commentary in there like you said.

This. I dont see a single TM story lasting more than a few episodes. It would have to be like AHS or BM that maybe have a link revealed in the end.

Hmmm...  just a thought: What if this TM tv show is like a 'what if' scenario for each car/character? Perhaps each episode or so focuses on one character at a time where they dream of winning the Twisted Metal competition and what it would be like for them if they win. We could get to know the characters and then up to a certain point before the competition takes place, they dream of their victory. Calypso could manipulate their dreams to give them a twisted ending. Once they awake, they will tell themselves they're not going to allow Calypso to twist their words when they actually win. This could be a challenge that Calypso desires because of course he still usually finds a way to twist the words of even the returning contestants. At the season finale last episode they speed off into combat and then fade to black... and then you hear Calypso speak (not sure what he should say; but something great!). END.

Interesting Idea.

So I wanted to chime in on this since I have been  writing fan fiction for the possible TV show on the fan fiction forum. I would want the character to have ties with Calypso somehow. To go with the idea of a narrator telling the stories of certain contestants for each episode, my choice to be the narrator and host would be Raven from Twisted Metal : Black.

Raven could present each episode and talk about which characters would be focused on in that specific episode. I would want her to use the craft of fortune telling to tell the stories of the contestants competing in Twisted Metal. She could also use that to predict the possible outcomes of the tournament. Obviously this comes from her reading tarot cards in Twisted Metal : Black with her friend Kelly.

Raven wouldn't be a contestant at all in the series is what I would want. She could be the one character that can tie every event of the major characters leading up to the contest and the aftermath of those contestants from the contest all together for the viewers. She could be like the hostess Elvira if anyone is familiar with that host.
