Title: Found some cool TM: Small Brawl beta images
Post by Mr.SLaM on 12/14/17 at 03:40:08
Any of the TMA vets or lurkers might know Small Brawl was my first Twisted Metal, and one of my favorites. 16 years later, I have found some really neat promotional images of Twisted Metal Small Brawl in an early beta state. The game has missing or changed textures, and the Tree Top Rumble, as well as the Playground level has a slightly different layout. Look at that sandcastle!  The UI us even different. Sony's official website also had some early promo images of it too.
How I have never found this, I will never know. Maybe it just surfaced, or perhaps I just found it. Anyways, enjoy!

Interesting. For curiosity's sake I had a flip though a few Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine issues from around that time, and the preview for the game uses the same seven screenshots (August 2001). I suppose they just copied them straight from the press kit.

While I'm at it, here's the ad that was in the issue that reviewed the game (January 2002). I just took a photo of this one since it's a bitch to scan magazines double-paged.

They gave Twisted Metal 4 a 4/5 while they gave Small Brawl a 2.5/5.  :o

I remember these images. Seeing them again gave me that bitter sweet feeling of days gone by.

I REALLY enjoyed Small Brawl. I got a lot of great hours out of it with my younger brother. It was well designed and well balanced. I was always annoyed because it felt like reviewers compared this PS1 game’s performance, made on hardware released in 1994, to its older PS2 brother TMB, which just wasn’t fair.

This, to me, was the best years to be a Twisted Metal fan. The future felt gloriously bright, even if it wasn’t.
