I ended up wasting 3 hours watching Star Wars videos. Besides that, great videos. I'm impressed with the quality.

That video is so fucking great. I was gonna send it to you the other day to make sure you'd seen it.

This is my only worry about the new trajectory of the EU/CU here:

http://io9.gizmodo.com/donald-glover-is-going-to-be-young-lando-in-the-han-sol-1788086902

I don't think there are really many good examples, if any, of going back in time to tell prequel story lines for major franchises and characters that have ever come across as nailing the intent while adding to the overall experience. The Star Wars prequel movies are THE greatest example of why this is unnecessary and doesn't work so trying to tell a story about the origins of Han Solo and now Lando-- even if that story isn't necessarily an origin tale or reveals some huge backstory that adds to the main plot line--seems like a huge waste of resources, if only based purely on the fact that you have to recast these iconic characters. I'm all aboard the new SW EU/CU train until they fuck it up so I will give Disney the benefit of the doubt for now as Rogue One looks stunning, but this seems like such an easy path to devaluing the franchise as quickly as possible.

GRANDFATHER?!?! WHO'S PLAYING GRANDFATHER?!?!

Well. That guy has some shoes to fill. Billy Dee should do some coaching lol.

I feel you on that. Considering both of us are coming from the old EU and how much time we invested reading about it, it's a reasonable concern to ask why, or even be worried what it can do. We kinda remember what E1,2,3 did to the franchise. (even though 3 was fucking bad ass)

That's the crux of the problem though for us. That's all gone (EU) so, anything that Disney puts out there is completely fresh. Can they fuck it up? Sure but, I really hope not. I'm pretty sure they're well aware what kind of fine line they are walking. Of course you'll never be able to please everyone but I think if they get it right, it could be something really cool to see.

It worries me too because Han Solo is my favorite character. Even more so in the old EU.

Noob question: I've seen Episode 4, 5 and 6. Should I watch 1, 2, 3 before 7? Because, whenever I read stuff about the franchise, people almost always talk about how horrible Episodes 1, 2 and 3 were.

Two and Three are not nearly as bad as One was.  Two and Three have some important story development towards the later series.

One is just kinda a "Hey we found this kid lets go on a adventure." Type deal

2 was a mushy love story, but 3 was the best out of them all. Some people might not agree but, that's just IMO.

I say watch them so you can at least see what people have talked about, and at least know why the movies were "important" to the over all story.

I actually like the sci fi in Star Wars better than Star Trek. Mostly because if you have a teleportation device like they do. Then it's the ultimate weapon. Just start teleporting random shit off and onto their ships.

That being said a war ship in space that has windows is god damned retarded.

YES, you should absolutely watch Episodes 1-3.

I just watched all of the Star Wars movies last year before seeing Episode 7. I probably would have beena  much bigger fan if I had watched them as a kid and grew up with it, but there is definitely a great, interesting story told in all of the movies. I even liked Ep4-6 more than some of the hardcore fans, but that's most likely due to me not having had such high expectations going into them.

I also like how each trilogy kind of mirrors the other trilogies (so far), and how they all have different perspectives. Lucas in Ep1-3 was NOT Lucas in Ep4-6, and Disney's direction is a little bit different still. Some of the fight scenes are incredible as well, and I think it's worth mentioning that there are some minor characters that steal scenes, and possibly the movie...and that's one of the things that make the entire series great.

http://www.starwars.com/news/emilia-clarke-joins-the-han-solo-stand-alone-film

Emilia Clarke joining the cast of the new Han Solo movie is a huge plus for me. Granted I've only ever seen her in Game of Thrones so I don't know how her acting chops hold up elsewhere, but man is she hot as fuck in that show. Really hoping she plays some kind of romantic love interest to Han Solo because I totally wouldn't mind looking at her throughout the entire movie.

Decided to jump in to the new Star Wars book canon the other day. Since I do a lot of driving for work now I thought maybe I'd try an audiobook since I rarely have time to actually read these days so I picked up the companion/pre-quel book to the upcoming movie Rogue One "Catalyst" because I thought this would be a cool place to jump in.

But oh man is this not only one of the worst books I've ever "read", its probably the worst Star Wars book I've ever read. NOTHING happens in it! I still haven't finished it yet though if I were actually reading this thing I would have already quit. SO BORING! Huge disappointment because I typically like James Luceno's books. I really hope this isn't indicative of the new canon. I know we need to wait a while for the movies to come out first before the good stuff can be used to fill in the gaps but if this is what's on offer for SW fans in the book realm these days then no thank you.

Early impressions of Rogue One are pretty great:

I'll be going to the premiere Thursday night so I'll have my spoiler free impressions posted by Friday morning Mags.

Yea cause I'm not going to a midnight showing, and I'll have to see it next day.

I'm not even going to log into to much shit after Friday. My wife couldn't believe I didn't hear anything about TFA since I hate crowds so much and waited a week.

Rogue One is THE best Star Wars movie, PERIOD! I knew this was going to be good but holy fucking shit it shattered my expectations in every single way possible.

Mags, dude, your body is not even ready. The Force Awakens is nothing compared to Rogue One. NOTHING! This movie is perfect. And not only is it already my favorite SW movie, but it might just be my favorite movie ever.

My god. I'm literally speechless.

I clicked this being a little nervous. I'm going to see it Sunday. I have way to much shit to do Saturday.

I'll have to shut myself down on social media until then.

You know I would never ruin a Star Wars movie for you. But text me when you are about to see it because we gonna have to chat whenever you get done watching it and decompress a bit.

My fiance had to get up early for work today so I brought her back home last night after the movie and then immediately bought a ticket and went straight back to watch it again....its that good.

Sadly this is going to be a dicey situation no matter what they do. A lot of people did not like CG Tarkin and Leia in Rogue One but you can't just "write her out" of such an important saga when her son is the one of the main villains and also killed Han Solo in The Force Awakens. Many people will view her being in Episode 9 as "too soon" if they do decide to have her in the film in any capacity so no matter what this will be a lose lose situation. If you omit her or kill her off screen that sucks, if you put her in with CG or some other computer magic that sucks as well. Really curious to see what they come up with.

No doubt about it. They are in a very tough position no matter what they do. TBH, I thought the CG of Tarkin was really great. It'd be amazing to me if they pulled off Leia that way, and did it good as well.

I'm glad I don't have to make those choices. It's definitely a loose loose.
