Post by iBukana on 06/01/11 at 19:39:54
Hello everyone,

I tried searching for a specific post that had the OST download file that had all the (Screams, Sweet Tooth's Tune and Music). But I couldn't find it.

Please help post that file.

Thank you.

I recognize that this is somewhat poor manners, but I figure it's slightly less disruptive to resurrect an old thread than clog up the new threads page with an identical topic. Would anybody be willing to post/send me a link to the aforementioned file in this thread? I've been searching for quite a long time in quite a few different places for these files and would be EXTREMELY grateful.

The reason it's so difficult to find TMB's OST is because (at least AFAIK), the entire soundtrack was never officially released.

Your best bet to obtain the lion's share of TMB's music at the highest possible quality would be to extract them yourself, from your own TMB disc.

Here's a guide on how to do it:
[olist]
  • Insert your TMB disc into your PC's DVD drive.
  • Open the disc's files.
  • Copy the /VAG/ folder, and paste it somewhere on your PC's hard drive/USB stick/etc.
  • Download ToWav Music Converter from http://www.ctpax-x.org/index.php?goto=files&show=24&lang=en (it's a small zip package containing three files - doesn't need to be installed).
  • Extract the zip package somewhere, and copy/paste the files contained within it (not the folder itself) into your copied /VAG/ folder.
  • From within your copied /VAG/ folder, double click on ConvAll.bat. It'll open a command prompt window that'll perform a mass extraction of all *.VAG files into *.wav ones.
  • Most of TMB's music tracks are stereo... but split up into left and right mono audio files. You'll need to combine the left and right channel tracks with your own music conversion apps to rebuild them into stereo tracks.[/olist]

On a side note, US (but not Canadian) editions of Twisted Metal: Head On Extra Twisted Edition (TMHOETE) for PS2 apparently came with a download voucher code that could be used to redeem an official MP3 soundtrack compilation known as the "Twisted Metal Symphony", from an older incarnation of twistedmetal.com. A RAR version of the symphony can be found on http://www.zyzzyxroad.com/tony/media/Twisted%20Metal%20Symphony.rar (235MB).

TMB seems to have been under-represented in the compilation, though. Out of 42 total tracks, only 7 came from TMB, and out of those, only 4 consist of actual music (other 3 are Sweet Tooth cutscene tracks).

Here's the symphony's track list (sourced from a post by a GameFAQs user called prudoff on http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/942346-twisted-metal-head-on-extra-twisted-edition/41272394?page=2#21):

This was actually awesome to revive.  I lost my download of the symphony on my old laptop, so it is awesome to get it again!

Another user from this forum thanked me for the link on February 6th, so it was probably taken down sometime within the last month or so. I spent a while searching for another download source for it a few nights ago, but came up empty-handed :(.

In any case, the RAR version from reply #7 wasn't the exact same archive Eat Sleep Play originally released. The RAR version was repackaged by someone else. It contained an album art image from this unrelated soundtrack (was probably auto-detected/downloaded by a music manager app). For all I know, the metadata in its music tracks may have also differed from the originally-released archive.

Here's another quote from prudoff's GameFAQs post with more info about the original archive ESP released:

    Quote:
    Yes, that code works at:

    http://twistedmetal.us.playstation.com/Soundtrack.aspx

Apparently the code is the same for everyone. So as long as Canada isn't blocked from accessing the site above, the code that's been posted will allow all you fine Canadian folks the ability to download the soundtrack Sony promised you on the packaging.

For those who are curious, the download is a 237 Mb "Twisted_Metal_Symphony.zip" file which contains 86 files: 42 MP3 audio files (44100 Hz, 256 kbps, stereo), 42 junk files named MP3 but really 8 bytes each (they have a MACOSX path), and 2 "DS_store" junk files. The total run time is 129:57 (2 hrs 9 min 7 sec), so you will need to divide it between two CDs if you plan on burning these songs to regular audio CDs.

Since these are regular MP3s, they are of course DRM-free (no copy protection) and capable of being used in any MP3 player (iPod, Zune, etc) as well as on your computer.

I recently came across another old GameFAQs thread that contained download links (which have since died). Crazemaster (the person that posted it) mentioned he had received "permission" to do so, without any context as to whom provided it. To quote:

    Quote:
I got permission to allow the public to download the Twisted Metal Symphony for free!

I wonder if Crazemaster actually reached out to Eat Sleep Play and got their blessing to repost the symphony?

I'd personally be interested in seeing the the original 237MB "Twisted_Metal_Symphony.zip" archive get reposted somewhere as-is (without any kind of modifications). But it's kind of a grey zone since the symphony (if you can even call it that - some tracks are just rips of cutscene audio) wasn't officially-released for free and since ESP hasn't publicly granted permission for the symphony to be reposted.

Anyone who wants the Twisted Metal: Symphony let me know and I will send it to you or I can give a link so everyone can download it. Do you guys want a public link? I have the only link, that I am aware of, you can use to download the soundtrack.

I would actually like the soundtrack.

I know this thread's been dead for awhile, but if anyone's still interested, the title screen/stage themes, including the ambient/final opponent music can all be found on the KHInsider VGM archive.

    https://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/twisted-metal-black

No FMV/cutscene music though, but what's there is pretty high quality.
