Title: How do you like your TM fan fics?
Post by tmfan89 on 11/05/10 at 22:39:31
Ok I know this isn't a fan fic but more of a discussion of fan fics but what better a place to discuses fan fics then here.

Do you like your TM fan fics (Your own and other people's you have read) to be long and complex or short and sweet? Also do you like when people combine past game stories into their fan fics? Do you like an overarching singular story or driver by driver?

For me personally I like them short and sweet. TM to me isn't a super complex story so the longer the fan fic the worse it is as to me TM doesn't need a great deal of depth to work (In general not always I have seen some long ones I like).

I also like driver by driver stories to me they make much more sense as I think that's how Jaffe writes them and overarching stories tend to be too messy most of the time. And I love references from TM games in the past, but its hard to stay truly faithful as TM stories don't always flow together so you do have to ignore a lot of plot holes.

then you must have been a big fan of Thumperman's fics.. God rest his soul

I write mine long and heavily detailed, as to paint a picture. the same one in MY own head so you can see what I see. other than that, my writing styles change here and there. Vengeance focused on several characters, while Civil War was kinda broad. and of course, my Chronicles told one driver's story..

I liked mine I wrote like 8 months ago. Too bad I can't think of any  Fic ideas at the moment.

Depends on the writer and how he fleshes it out. Everyone writes different so, some can write short or long better than the others. Thumperman was good for shorties. Disaster is good for the longer, more detailed stuff.

If they did one or the other, it would blunt thier creativity probably. Not saying they can't do it. It might just not be as good if they didn't do it their own way.

I actually want it to be known that anyone can write stories and I encourage peoples creativity but, if they aren't in a good sentance structure and spelling is horrendus, please refrain from doing so. Not to be a prick but honestly, noone will read a story like that. FYI so noone gets upset at getting bashed. Going to copy paste this for the FYI.

For me, I wrote short stuff. I lost my 3 TMB Pulp Fics on the old site. Pulp Fics are stories about TM Charactors that are the writers own creation. That was a seperate board at the old site. Here it doesn't matter.

I actually still remember them for the most part. The main gist of them anyway. Since this site has been up, I have thought about writing them again but, I'm to lazy to find the time. Like with "Struggle" once I get the itch, I can't stop.

Maybe sometime soon.

I find my biggest issues with fics and writing in general is how to structure it. I feel like I have awesome ideas but they might be too grand for my abilities so it doesn't get across they way I want it to and it kind of drags down the story.

The best way to go about that is to just get a solid start, middle, and ending. From there you just have to put it in order, and work out the details from start to finish.

When your done writing it, proof read it. Do this seriously because you will find errors of all types, and also you'll see for yourself how it flows.

What anyone needs to understand is they don't have to be Steve King like or whatever. You make a creation by what you want, and either people will like it or they won't. If you put to much pressure on yourself, your forcing it and it might not be that great. It should be something you WANT to do. You rush, it might be sloppy.

That just reinforces the spelling, and structure making of stories.

Yea. He quit the site and removed himself from the boards. He got bashed in a post about a month back, and decided to quit.

sorry, I just cant write short stories. hell, my 'short stories' are never that short anyway. I dont like to feel like my point isnt getting across cause I'm trying to keep it on the short side

the next one is turning out to be just as long, too. the majority of the drivers I made up, with some classics returning.. so Mr. Slam, you better read it. just saying

ok... I'll read it...um are you confusing me for that guy saying he likes short stories?
I mean I like yours I read it all the way to the end, and then my fic had some tidbits from your fic(like pitviper getting rammed through a block buster by darkside)the ending for my fic was the begining of yours so it was sort of a constant loop.

I prefer to have a picture painted for me so i can imagine the world and how things are moving - details to me are the most important thing when reading a story.

After I'm done with my fic I plan to read yours DC (and everyone elses too) Sounds like your attention to detail is exceptional.

I need to write one. But get this, it would be long. Not DC long, but long.

But first I need a PC Mac. My netbook sucks. Pop quiz assholes, what device are 90% of my posts written on?

A motherfucking PSP. That is also why my posts are short too.
