Title: TM on PS3
Post by Imtwistedtoo on 10/20/09 at 07:30:51
I know this has probably been brought up before, but I want to state what I believe the next game should include.

Completely customizable cars.
You should be able to download a photo of your own car, or be able to select from a HUGE list of cars...Like Gran Tourismo (which i think is a shitty game, always has been but even on the PS1 it had lots of cars to unlock, etc.)
Same with your character.
Be able to upgrade of course, buy/steal new stuff, new gadgets, clothes and cars.

AND, have the game actully include a story.
it could be like a choose your own adventure book.
Where different decisions return different outcomes.

Also, since CGI and computer graphics in games has become so realistic, why not film som live action stuff with ACTORS and make it blend seemlessley with the gameplay.
We can pull it off much better nowadays than from the Original PS days, don't you think?

It has been discussed numerous times. Not a knock on you, just that don't expect much in the way of disscussion of it. I bet if you dig through the pages of TT Wall, you'll find an old topic of it.

Also for all you new people showing up, just click "modify" if you think of something else, instead of making a new reply.

YOU FUCKING GOT THAT SPANKEY?!?!??!

I duno about about using cars from Gran Turismo. That game has licensed cars, and using those could get Sony in legal trouble with any car companies.

Also, how will getting your car into the game via photo work?  I know in the Tony Hawk games made for the PS2, you could use the Eye Toy to scan your face and send it to Activision (PS2 has to have online conection) to put that on a custom skater.  But since the PS3 has no Eye Toy, how could it work?

So if I take a photo of my cock will we see that drivin around then?

No photos of cars, just wouldn't work.

The custom stuff in the new game will amount to skins, and possibly the driver if there visible enough.

Maybe optional extras on the cars and such.

Warhawk had some custom choices and I think TM will have pretty much the same stuff.

I don't think you will be making cars from scratch, how the fuck do you make Axel?

I don't like the ideaat the end about making cars from scratch.  Reminds me of TM4.

I dont like the idea of making cars from nothing, either. just include unlockable skins for the current roster.. eventually being able to unlock every skin for every car from every game

if you make a car from scratch, there's no story/background. sure, it'll work in online MP since the stories have no relevence, but in the story mode, it'd fall on its face

TM4 didnt let you make a car from scratch, you got a basic car,you could add a skin,a special move, and what your dude says when you use a special move.to call it a basic editor would give it to much credit.

what cool car editor might look like would start the same.get a basic car(they could release so many with the game and have endless dlc stream coming from ESP),let you paint it,add vinyl designs or a paint design program, let you add various objects to your car(like ramming spikes),allow you to configure how a weapon pickup would look on your car,i mean the world is wide open when it comes to true customization.

if you want a story play final fantasy, the soul of twisted metal is about car combat,i felt like black was a little overated, lots of story but toy like car physics(unfortunately similar to TM4)granted TM2 was no driving sim but you could actually powerslide and ram.you just cant do tricks in TMB like you could in TM2.that was my only complaint about black, but it was enough to keep me from playing it much.

the only reason i mention this here is that i hope the driving physics in the PS3 version are better then black, ive been waiting over 10 years for a worthy successor to TM2.if they get the physics right,i honestly dont give a damn about anything else in the game,im gonna love it,no offense to you guys that loved black,i just didnt get the hype.

I like what Forza 3 has done with its car custom options.
I know TM is a very different game but I think the level of altering and adding stuff should amount to the same thing.

You can make an existing car/character completely unique with custom paint jobs and decals which are ideal for MP.

You should be able to alter some other optional stuff like spoilers, wheels etc.

leave it at that though.

AND NO STAT TWEAKING!!

As much as it would add to the depth I think it would be impossible to get a perfect balance.

I personally don't think any TM game has had perfectly balanced vehicles as it is and probably never will.

"if you want a story play final fantasy, the soul of twisted metal is about car combat" - Newfag

Don't know about you, but there are a lot of people here who enjoy the story. Before online that was what kept me playing it for years. A TM without a story is pure garbage. You can't argue that the TM story isn't important when it's spawned what seems to be 100's of fanfics. I agree that The combat is what kept it going but to just say that "If you want a story go play another game", is pure ignorance and you should be shot.

No offense.

this

if it wasn't for the nutcases driving the cars, and them having a reason to do it, the game would just be hollow. the soul of the game is NOT car combat, that's just the genre its in.. the soul comes from the ppl in the game who make it unique and different from every other impersonator/rip-off out there

You guys are fucking nuts. The gameplay is the heart and soul of the game and without that it would not have had the lifespan it has had.

Now I love the characters and some great stories have come out of the games, and lots of really cool fanfics have come out of it too (NRG's included), but if TM had only average gameplay with the characters and stories it had, it would be a failure. And if they took the characters and made a game in a different genre with them as has been suggested before, I would fucking hate it.

If ESP can make a game with great gameplay and a great story, as has been the case in the past, great. But if an elaborate story were to negatively affect the gameplay, I'd rather there be no story.

It's all a matter of opinion, but I truly love, and have always loved TM for the gameplay.

I dunno about you guys, but the point of the game is seeing the ending for each character.. at least when you play story mode. I know the gameplay is what shapes the games itself, but its the individuals who tie everything together

I'm the nutcase driving the car,not some made up,over exaggerated alter ego stand in.and my motivation is to blow the shit out of the opposition, and the brotherhood of a good partner.it doesnt get any better then that(unless of course someone would be stupid enough to try this shit for real,i'd buy that for a dollar)

if car combat is just a genre, then other car combat games wouldnt be impersonators/rip-offs,would they.they would just be "other games in the genre"

much of this i agree with, though i think the key word word is "seen".V8 was off the fuckin chain,i think because while it was car combat it was nothing like TM,floaty physics and emphasis on weapon systems completely altered the dynamics from the TM series.i dont think wannabe gives luxoflux enough credit.

take consoles for instance, playstation didnt do it first, but they have done it best every step of the way.not that V8 was better than TM2, it was just different, but definitely equal, but when it comes to games like rogue trip,i have to agree 100% with your statement

There's definitely going to be some sort of story but don't be suprised if it's nothing more than the little bits of bio info that we seen in Lost.

Jaffe mentioned in a tweet about 6 months ago that he was 'writing fiction for the characters'.

So that could mean full on endings whatever but with the teams constant mention of moving away from story driven and that the story doesn't really matter (not my words Jaffe's) then I still don't think you'll see a proper story mode.

IF there is one I'd bet that it was no where near as deep as Black.

'Mechanics driven' as Jaffe likes to say a lot.

I still think they're aiming for a game structure similar to Warhawk.

i hope there is a morter type weapon that you have to get within a couple of feet of your target before it starts to home in like the napalms from TM2

also a ricochet like weapon that you could use to bounce dudes into fatal falls, again like TM2

and ramming is so much fun even with smaller cars like my boy roadkill, even though its kind of a suicide tactic under those circumstances the napalm had some punch at point blank when in combo with a good ram, followed by a ricochet, followed by minion's special.now theres a killer combo

i like the idea of say having modern versions of classic characters, but being able to unlock all of the classic versions, original specials and all, maybe being able to unlock all the classic boards too.i read somewhere that David Jaffe had said the next TM was going to be an overview of the past games anyway.i dont know man,im really hung up on TM2,would love to be able to relive that experience, music and all in modern graphics and a save function.

something else that would be cool is having different story paths for different characters, like if you played as axel you would play on a different first board than if you played as roadkill

one more thing.an online co-op tournament with super hard difficulty levels so you could get 3 or 4 people together and still be challenged.my roots with this game are playing TM2 co-op with my boy Joel and owning like kings on hard.while owning gets old kinda quick you cant underestimate the brotherhood factor.come to think of it,i think thats the reason why me and him were best friends for 10 years, atleast thats what got us started

that's cause technically, we're not s'posed to know it exists. in all reality, i'm surprised Jaffe didn't get axed over the ending numerical msg and ST shroom cloud
donr get me wrong, V8 and Rogue Trip were fun games that I still play to this day, but in my eyes, they screamed, "I wish I was TM!!" pretty much, any somewhat modern car combat is gonna look like a replica cause TM is the benchmark and standard for the genre

You've forgotten that Rogue Trip was made by SingleTrac, the same people who did TM. So Rogue Trip was like "I may not be no where near like TM, but I'm second best! Or third...". Get your shit straight.

TM has been and will always be the originator of car-combat. And just may be the only one for quite a while.

i never knew that singletrac made rogue trip, but it doesnt really make a difference ,its still a far cry from a playable game, third best in a genre that really only had 3 current franchises at the time doesnt even provide a sense of scale.its like putting me in a room with david spade and lucas haas and saying im the 3rd skinniest person in the room,im like 5'11 260 Ibs

on the other hand,V8 was one of those games that well complimented the genre, was just as strong a game as TM2(due to its original game play dynamics with the emphasis on floaty physics and weapon systems),and both are still to this day the 2 kings of car combat games.it never mattered who did what first just who did it best.TM2 and V8 pull a smooth even.in my opinion,of course ;)

Did I forget to mention that you suck at metaphors?

The way I see it, Vigilante 8, Rogue Trip (regardless if it's made by the same people almost.), Carmageddon, and anything else I've forgot to mention. Simply were just trying to cash in the success TM brought in within the seemingly less-populated genre of car combat.

That's like saying, during the times where Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat I and II were two of the most acknowledged in the fighting genre. And just about a handful of little fighting games here and there tried to mimic them in everyway, just to make a buck.

yeah dude, carma was blow shit up while you race, there were several games like that on snes.

Toasty,i think you got chip on your shoulder, the way you talk about genres, its like saying wolfenstein is the only real FPS(i love my metaphors ;D).if V8 was made only for the purpose of capitalizing on the success of TM,then it would have been mediocre, instead, what you have is a game that might play somewhat similar, but you can do stuff like massive combos, juggle combos.you had explosive objects in the battle ground that added a serious tactical value to game play, the ability to use particular weapons in multiple ways, floaty physics etc....

Luxoflux definitely had a love and passion for the genre,of course they wanted to capitalize on it(no one in the indusry would make a game that they wouldnt want to capitalize on,thats capitalism brother),and the fact that they did capitalize very well proves they made a good product.you dont get a new franchise to greatest hits status by making a mediocre game.they brought it then, and if activision would give them the funding for a full disc modern version Isopod labs would bring it now

im gonna make new board called "Twisted Metal,Vigilante 8, and Rogue trip" under Brawl on the wall so we can be on topic with this discussion

it was a shame that V8 only managed to get its 15 mins of fame because it came out before TM3 and that game was no where near as good as V8.

Everybody remembers V8.

Nobody seems to remember V8:2O very much.

I was gutted that V8:A did so poorly, it plays like the old games, so what's the problem? Surely the old fans love it?

This is what worries me about the new TM. I hear a lot of ppl say they want it to play like TM2 and I'd like that.

But to have the game appeal to a wider audience I don't think ESP can do it.

Gameplay has to be the #1 focal point. That's the entire reason TMBO lasted as long as it did. Noone made stories about TM3-4, or worried about TMB stories online.

Not to say that if the story for charactors sucks, I wouldn't be upset. I want a great story too but, the gameplay HAS to be there.

if your talking about the V8 arcade,Isopod wasnt given enough resources to shine, and it didnt get any advertisement.it was the failing of activision, not the actual developer.IL-2 Sturmovik had the same problem(no advertisement) a few months back until G4 did a review of it like 2 weeks ago.

i doubt Sony will make the same mistake with advertising.after TM comes out next year(assuming it does as well as it should),its probable that we might see a well funded disc and case version of V8

Don't compare V8 Arcade to Twisted Metal 3 and 4! How dare you! ::bitch smacks Magnum:: The game is good and fun for what it is, its just not fleshed out, not balanced, and has no play modes to speak of. After all it is only an arcade title. When viewed through the microscope of a community that breaks down car combat like us, its not going to hold up to a full retail TM game, but its still a nice little download for sure.

It's BETTER! I said it's BETTER!!! Not LIKE 3 or 4 dammit. :::::::punches Xizor in the chest::::::

I had fun with it but I could only take playing it for so long.

TM3 isn't all THAT bad...
TM4 is TOLERABLE with the "ice" cheat on to make the driving a little more loose.

It's like when people say DOOM movie was bad..
Granted, it wasn't "DOOM", yet it still bets most Sci-fi movies of it's kind.

Talk about guilty pleasures.

How can you even find anything REMOTELY enjoyable with those two "games"? If the TM name wasn't slapped around all over them, they'd still be shitty as standalone games.

The DOOM movie sucked, because you had a washed up wrestler on the leading role. And there was loose ends, having very little, but nothing to do with what made DOOM a good FPS. It had potential, but it was just there to make money. No, sorry, DOOM as a movie cannot even hold a candle to even a casual sci-fi movie.

You do have no taste, I bet you hold a library of horrible movies and games.

TM3 was a piece of shit.
TM4 was 989's take on TM2 but wasn't in the same class.

V8 Arcade was alright although I have no interest in ever playing it again but at least it was better than TM3 & 4.

By all means play it and see what you think. I'm just telling you what the majority of people who have played it from here think.

Come on now, it's got some serious problems but it's nowhere near THOSE games. Still though, it's a major let down and probably not worth your money.

Twisted Metal is published by Sony you fucktard.... and don't say "Fuk X-Box", because most people here have a 360, and only a few have a PS3

there was that one sony game on the xbox, knights of the old republic, its an action shooter set in the Berserk universe.

im with T-bone,xbox is a back bencher console, the only way they can compete is by selling  the 360 dirtcheap, and the only reason that worked is cuz the PS3 was so expensive for so long.besides,if you guys plan on playing the new TM you better get on that owning a PS3 thing.

What the hell are you talking about? I think you have Knights of the Old Republic, A STAR WARS GAME NOT MADE BY SONY, confused with something else.

And if you prefer the PS3 over the 360 thats fine. Not about to get back into that argument again on these boards, but obviously your facts on a lot of things gaming is inaccurate so it doesn't surprise me that you think the PS3 is a superior console and that the 360 is a "back bencher" console. Whatever that means.

the KOTOR thing was a joke dude, how do you not get that

as for the PS3,its all about the games man, this a Twisted Metal forum after all.also, once developers figure out the cell engine, the power and graphics are gonna be off the chain bro(like MGS4 & Killzone 2).i suspect the new TM will be one of those games.anyway,im done going off topic, sorry about that

Yeah this is a Twisted Metal Forum, but the last real Twisted Metal game we all played together, mostly, was TMBO... over 7 years ago. If it wasn't for other games on the "other consoles" to play and things to talk about, then the few remaining people who still interact with each other would simply have vanished like 90% of the rest. So don't find it hard to believe that after all those years of waiting for a sequel, we bought a competitor's console and tainted our souls.

And the 360 is hardly the back bencher console, its the industry standard right now. if anyone is a back burner or underdog, its the PS3. (Not that that is a bad thing)

thats pretty much the best way to put it right there..

I wont knock the PS3 in the least, but I'm def happy with my decision to get a 360 first.. I havent had this much fun with gaming in yrs

why? cause its got a blu-ray player? everything is the same... the exclusive titles are what really separates the 2 apart, and its not THAT big of a difference; PS3 has God of War, 360 has L4D.. etc..

dude,i get it, you like 360,thats cool.I own both,as most people should,IMO,but you should try playing uncharted 2 sometime, looks and runs better then any 360 exclusive ive ever played.we shouldnt be talking about this here

If your definition of Back-Burner is lesser graphics then I think your opinion makes no sense. Considering many games on the 360 look and play just as good. Shouldn't your term be used for the Wii? Obviously some 360 hatred/fanboyism going on.

im not a 360 hater, the back bencher thing is based on machine power, functionality, controller, and games.the controller and games part is clearly opinion.the power and functionality are not.you cant hold it against sony that multiplatform devs are lazing out when it comes to PS3 versions of the games.really though, this is a dumb debate, like i said, you like what you like and like what i like,in my world the 360 serves very little purpose(FFXI,L4D,Ace Combat 6,Tenchu Z,V8 Arcade),but thats just my world,im not a fan of FPS and short hack & slash RPGs,and i hate playing fighting games on the 360 controller cuz the D-Pad is barely usable, also I play alot of PS1 games and the PS3 has a PS smoother which cleans up the look of the PS1 titles(i dont know if it works on the downloadable classics).its time to agree to disagree
